I’m somebody who respects intent. I can see that they were really trying to go somewhere new and fresh with Sonic after the tasteless slop that was Forces, and the boss fights are really dope, so I have some respect for Frontiers.
As for the actual game…I think it’s the textbook definition of fine. Does some stuff good, some stuff bad.
So far I've been enjoying it but it's rough. I can't be too hard on the pop in cause I gobble up Pokémon yearly but I have other problems.
Sega sure did hire this man. I like the idea of the setting but it's really boring visually and it's coupled with boring as **** enemy designs - I'm someone who really values enemy variety cause it makes the world feel so much more alive and in this case it just doesn't do any favors to the really boring aesthetic Frontiers is going for.
Also the controls are kind of meh, I know it's a meme but I wish there was actual momentum to Sonic's movement, it feels unnatural without it. It doesn't have to be the end all be all of the level design but it adds weight to the movement, which Sonic in this game doesn't have. The controls are also what ruins the cyberspace levels imo
But running around in this world is fun, platforming is fairly creative and fun and I'm actually enjoying the combat as well, I executed a really sick combo against an enemy and that felt awesome
