Got another question. How do you guys tell that you l-canceled aerials that generally don't have lag to begin with (such as marth and sheik's fair)? I just can't seem to know if i l-canceled these moves.

they have naturally low lag. but marth's clearly has more.

honestly i don't think it even matters for sheik's fair (someone check me on this one)
but obviously this is not the case for her other aerials

marth's fair should be pretty clear. you may just be ****ed up or something.
go to training mode or play an absent human on unlimited time a fair LOW to the ground. like, SH, FF at the top of your hop and then do a fair only after FFing. then try it with l-canceling. you should see a difference.

generally, testing aerials low to the ground (especially ones that are finished if you do them at the beginning of the jump, obv) is a good way to test for this kinda ish.

sheik is ****ing homo

To make sure you have the timing down, I suggest doing the moves closer to the ground and then holding forward. You should start walking/running sooner when you L-cancel then when you don't.

If you Fair with either character right away then the move auto cancels so there won't be any difference L-cancel or not.

it doesn't generally matter much if you l cancel low lag aerials for shffling but for when you're doing it onto a platform and want to continue a juggle/combo, it is very important

I have come to the conclusion that it's borderline impossible to care about getting better at this game in this state. I'll probably come to stuff to chill and blow trees, and roll a few heads with ganon, but the more i try, the more everyone around here stops trying. we host like 1 tourney a month and it gets 8 entrants. It's such bull****. I'm not enough of a gamer to learn any other games, so i'll always be a smasher, but NC smash is ridiculous, and I don't really feel like going oos every time i want a decent environment for competition's sake.

so yeah. guess i'm just another NC smasher who might just be done giving a **** about getting better. Thanks to everyone who made this possible.

And if the rankings ever get updated, i fully expect to be on them.

*shrug* i don't mind. blowin trees and still trying to focus against KP was pretty fun. playing teams with jim was amazing too. it sucks that this is all NC's competition is, but that's what it's kinda devolved into. I'm tired of pretending that NC has the potential to be competitive and active and willful again. Cause they don't lol. So i may as well join the bunch.

I see.. you don't have to be so caring like a freaking zealous person to become better. Just play, take notes.. keep going. Since when smashing with your buddies about being better than them, you learn stuff and you chill.. have fun. Having fun = the root of smash. If you destroy your friends than you do, that's it. =)

Edit: Our scene is also dead but that doesn't stop me from learning and getting better, we **** each other all night. XD

And I mean if you want different competition, you HAVE to travel.. that's how it is.

well, that depends on how good you really want to be. to get to a level that would allow me to, say, place well at a large tournament, I'm pretty sure i have a little more caring to do before i could level off and be content and "naturally" get better.

plus, my fun in this game lies in out-thinking my opponents. really, with no competition that is active around my level, my fun has been quite spoiled.

unless that is, i wanna become good simply by having played for like 8 years. But i don't really have the time to just be that 28 year old with kids who places well because he played with PP way back in 2009.

Ya i guess if you see it that way, but with that mindset.. wouldn't you be bored if you ever become number 1? That would seem destructive in the end lol.

That's why you rock OldManondorf so well. Cause you **** when you want to and get pleasure from other's confusion.

Though I don't see how there's any difference out-thinking / destroying your opponent... I love destroying faces all day, all night even if the skill level is apparent.. Obviously it's much better to defeat a better player but.. ya.. at least that way it's a never ending road. <3.

It's almost always like this to some extent during the summer.

It's compacted by the fact that our tournament scene is pretty unbalanced right now. Most of our players reside in the triangle, but all of our tournaments are in the west right now.

yeah, unless you count the duke tourney where the only thing that happened was the 50 dollar teams mm and brawl.

things get hosted in you guys' back yard and people still don't show up.

Its tru, smashfest, tournaments, everything.. attendance is bad unless we have oos come. To be honest melee is pretty dead here, kinda ironic since the best player in the world here. Shoutout to snap for holding tournaments tho. I think I've found a venue to start hosting but there's no point with the way the turnouts been looking

Well personally
I have to share a car, and share gas too. So gas is expensive.
I'm also working a lot and when I'm off sometimes I just want to sit at home and relax.

so that's why I haven't been around much.

I was thinking about communiting back and forth from wilmington to run biweeklies in the triangle but I honestly feel the same way chris does. NC is draining my spirit. I had to miss hickory due to family and when I saw the attendance... I was super sad.

I love melee and as of late Ive played a ton. Improved a whole lot and would like to help this scene... but I don't wana work hard if no one is going to attend those events. I gotta think about some other things too. sucks. I love melee and I don't wana see it die. Especially since now I've improved.

Would biweeklies in durham really help? or would you guys miss those.

what do u mean?
East NC is fastly becoming the "Capital" of NC smash, between me and others hosting tournaments in the area, more stuff happening in greensboro, more stuff happening in asheboro etc

Raleigh, durham, Chapel hill area just simply refuses to come to anything without some crazy incentive

I wont be here to hold NC's hand forever. I cant give you M2K month after month after month. Eventually West is just going to have to start hosting more serious tournaments or start coming to ours.
