Shmot - oooooh yeaaaaaa.

Only 10 finalists are invited tomorrow, but if you didnt make it in, turn up early and there's a good chance you'll get in anyway.

EB is pinning for a 24 man bracket

yo cao, is the 24 man bracket confirmed? and considering there's more then just the finalists involved shudn't runners up get priority over randoms just rocking up to be in the bracket. It's just i don't want to train into the city and back for no reason.

also is GC controller confirmed or still the wi-mote thing?

cheers mate

Freeo "By allowing a range of controller options, the entrants are capable of playing Brawl at their potential thus allowing intense matches. It should allow us to expect many more people to spectate which will result in our reputation and sales increasing significantly." Say this to your manager and he'll surely let us bring GameCube controllers. Heck he might even raise your salary ;)

Runner-ups aren't guaranteed a finals placement but those who want to come should just go anyway - there are places to be filled. I don't know anything more than that.

As far as I know it's still wii-mote only.

Hey guys,
None of that is confirmed
stop spreading propaganda david haha
But there is a chance it may happen depending on what i'm told I am allowed to do
If it is up to me it will all go through though

hey Sutan,
that is exactly what I have been saying and like they understand but now the biggest reason for not using game cube remotes is because we have done so much on wii mote it will be unfair to other contestants who had to enter with the wii motes
we will have it sorted by 10am tomorrow
so don't worry

To add to this maybe people will see people playing with GameCube controllers and think "hey I want to become that good too, maybe I should get a GameCube controller..."
Which means EB should start selling GameCube controllers :)
I really want to buy one of those white ones.

Yes, this is a good point.

Who knows, maybe there were some good players but the wii-remote let them down, especially with the CRAP and MUSHY D-pad..
Not sure why EB/Nintendo decided wii-remotes only in the first place though

btw i was kicked out 1st round. Friday the 13th johns.

the main argument for the sole use of wiimotes that ive heard is that it makes it 'fair' (pun intended) to everyone, cept that ignores the fact that most good smashers us gc controls, making it unfair against people who actually play the game.

freeo, try that line out...

@t1me: awake at 4am? excited much?

Most good smashers would still do better than other casual people with a wiimote. We also saw this event coming, so we had a chance to practise with a wiimote. It would be unfair if:

A) The person playing doesn't own a wii/wiimote (unlikely)
B) The person playing uses a wiimote naturally (unlikely)

Not that I'm saying that I perfer a wiimote, but I think its about as fair as it could get.

Man I need a haircut!

Definitely looking forward to more Smash events. Freeo, maybe you can talk to your people about running a ladder while the tournament isn't going? Or some other smaller events just to keep us all interested during the tournament downtime.

Looks like it was a good time, not happy I missed it tho but being sick sucks.
Did you guys get to use your GC controllers or were you stuck with Wiimotes?

And is there going to be more of these? If so AWESOME, if not AWESOME for giving the smash scene in melb some attention anyway. Hopefully this will increase the people playing competitively.

EDIT: Oops sounds like I'm being sarcastic, what I meant was its good that a shop ran a tourny and that with some of the smash board people there maybe more kids will play competitively after seeing their 1337 skills.

uaq - there's a lot of regular monthly tournaments the Smash community runs here. Check the threads STIGMA-B for Brawl and STIGMA-M for Melee.

I had fun talking crap the entire time I was there.

thanks again freeo, it was a fun day :)

and id like to extend a personal invitation to the STIGMA-B meet on the 29th of March. They'll be plenty of awesome players there, and with our own choice of controllers, you can be sure the skill level will be top notch. It might be good for eb to get an idea of how we like tournys to be. oh, and you can play too :)
