Yeah, I'd wait for excellence. What was it, 8 years between LA and OoT? But I'm excited now. This looks interesting. *Goes to rewatch*

Yes! New Zelda game!

I watched the trailer and while the gameplay seems a bit to much like Phantom Hourglass for my tastes (way to easy). I'll go in and add information and whatnot to the OP now.

I personally can't wait to hear the story behind said train.

I'll miss you, King of Red Lions!

Just noticed the magic sparks around the train, so I'm guessing it's mostly magical and Hyrule probably hasn't really entered an Industrial Revolution yet lol.

Also I noticed there's no fairy, so I guess Ciela won't make a comeback. That's good news.

This train stuff on Zelda looks like it is going to be pretty sweet, I'm not going to lie. Trains + Zelda = Trelda.

On a more serious note, I hope they don't make us use the little DS pointer.

So the steampunk locomotive rumor was true. Holy mackerel, this looks far better than PH. I'm thoroughly excited.

Now let's all fight. When is Spirit Tracks (ST) based on the timeline? It's obviously in Hyrule, so could it perhaps be the fabled "bridge" game between OoT and WW? It certainly seems like it. The Link featured in this game obviously resembles that from both WW and PH, so if for whatever reason it is, then perhaps after PH, Link and Zelda found a new Hyrule.

Oh man, this is exciting. PH was okay, but this seems like it'll definitely top it.

I'm going to guess the former. I see no evidence of Tetra or her pirate crew or anything pirate/sea related. It has Zelda in her normal princess attire. Tetra in Phantom Hourglass hated being called Zelda and using her appearance, so if this really is a direct sequel to PH, she apparently got over that in between games, lol.

"I'M TIRED OF THESE MAAF*CKIN LINKS, ON THIS MAAF*CKIN TRAIN!"
I'm coining that catchphrase here and now.
Not gonna lie. Looks like ****.
Hasn't been a good Zelda game since OoT. Maybe WW.

Hm, a new Zelda to throw into the timeline. It's a tough call at this point, since we know so little. It's got the same art atyle as PH, so of course the first thought is that it's another sequel. But, as was said above, there's no sign so far of pirates or Tetra. Also, the Zelda we saw looks identical not just to Tetra-Zelda, but also to the MC Zelda. I think that's just because of the style rather than a real link (pun intended) between the games, but you never know. MC's place is debatable, if it even has one. Oh the excitement! Having it as the bridge game between OoT and WW would be interesting, but the chaos was supposed to be caused by the hero not showing up, and Link is clearly here... I think we might just have to wait for a little more news.

lol

I gotta say I was pretty disappointed with the lack of new music in Phantom Hourglass. There was hardly any memorable original music in that game. Linebeck's theme was pretty decent, but it was only one song.

Hopefully they fix that in Spirit Tracks.

There are so many jokes about this new game I just may not be able to contain myself.

It looks okay, though. I was a fan of PH (golden cutscenes, entertaining multiplayer), and I have high hopes for this one.

Also, question: Why are the huge-*** monsters in the Zelda universe so pathetically weak?

Oh and also, this will be the fifteenth Zelda game. I wonder it'll have any special qualities because of that landmark. (provide a link between other games in the timeline, etc)

Yeah, I think it's time that video games throw out and ban the 3-hit rule once and for all. I mean really, just stop. But yeah, larger = harder is a good principle, I think.

Contrary to what everybody else has said (or at least, what I've seen), I think that this new Zelda game is the most close to modern times in the franchise...

I mean, they have trains. Not the most advanced thing, but a step ahead for sure.

EDIT: 3-hit rule needs to go.

For some really weird reason, my ideal next Zelda game actually had trains and a new link outfit.

But it also had normal link on the console, and the trains were more for riding than driving.

It's kinda weird how this game looks to be exactly what I was hoping for in a medium and style I was hoping it would do without.

Can't wait :D

It's supposed to come out some time this year (and with hopefully no delays >_>).

-:bowser:Bowser King
Which means that Zelda Wii will definitely not come out this year (not that surprising).

According to Zelda Universe, Spirit Tracks may be the last Zelda we get until 2010, or even until Nintendo's next console. I'm sure Zelda Wii will actually come out on the Wii, but if it follows in TP's footsteps and is developed for the Wii and ported to the Wii 2, or whatever succeeds it, a lot of Zelda fans will be pissed.

It's a shame that we're basically going to be playing a different looking PH, and not something original. Who knows who the antagonist may be, but I do not want Ganon. A 3D Vaati would be well appreciated though (or another new antagonist that's not Bellum).

I'd have to agree that this is the most modern Zelda so far. There have been no references to trains in any previous games.

Unless this is before the whole flood-thing.

But... I love the three hit rule....

Now on to more important things. Hookshots are more advanced than Trains.

!
I don't know if I can go along with this. The hookshot is a fairly simple (albeit impossible) device. A train is a complicated machine. It has so many moving parts. A hookshot is just a spring-activated chain with a claw on the end. Just because we've only invented one doesn't mean it's the less-advanced one.

In Phantom Hourglass we ride what appears to be a small steamboat. Those were invented around the same time as the train, except a little bit earlier (about 50 years or so)

In PH it doesn't say the ship runs on magic, so I'm guessing it's actual technology. This could prove to be very interesting if that trait continues for the trains in Spirit Tracks.

edit: But now that I think about it, the fact that it's called "Spirit Tracks" probably confirms the train'll run on magic lolol

If it ran on magic, there wouldn't be smoke coming out of the pipe (I feel awful for a lack of proper vocabulary, but alas, I know nothing of trains).
You guys all wanted a futuristic Zelda, but I think it would be best if that ever happend to use the Final Fantasy twist. Futuristic, but still using swords and stuff.
That's what we had in mind. Not like Halo Zelda or something (man, that would be lame). But this isn't futuristic enough, it's merely a slight technological twist to the classic Zelda world.

I'm disappointed by the dungeons and the similar enemies. All that seems to have changed thus far are the vehicular transportation, items (that fan thing looks neat and plus, PH added NO new items), and the other always-changing elements, such as bosses.

I'll buy this game, but man I had higher hopes. I really wanted a N64-styled game for the DS.

Don't worry, there will deffinantly be another Zelda on wii.

After all, the Wii is only just now meeting demand. I predict another 6 years for a new Zelda game to come out at least.

Yet there are sparks flying from the tracks as the train rides along it. Those sparks may be magical, and not a result of friction, since they're shaped like stars. lolol

I predict a new system will come out before your 6 year mark. The Wii will get another Zelda, but I'd like it to come out before the Wii 2 does. I'll put it in this perspective:

The GCN was released at the end of 2001. WW was released at the end of '02 in Japan, and in the Spring of '03 in the US.

The Wii was released at the end of 2006 with TP. It began development in '04, '03 at the earliest. So it took a maximum of three years to produce. They've supposedly been working on Zelda Wii since before TP was released, meaning that '05 was the earliest that they could have began development, logically. It's 2009 now, three, possibly four years after development for Zelda Wii ensued. If the game comes out in 2010, then it could have potentially have been in development for five years, two more than TP. However, there's a good chance that it may see a 2011 release, so that would bump it to five, maybe six years of development.

Beta screens were released for TP in '03 ('04, perhaps, I can't remember), potentially a year after development. We are being deprived, but I understand that Nintendo is putting if off so that they can release concrete information about the game on a clean date. The point is, Nintendo better blow us all away with an incredible game.
