Has anyone tried listening to Catamenia at all? >_>
I actually have their entire discography on CD because they're pretty classy. Location Cold is my personal favorite just because the riffs on it sound a bit more melodic than in their other stuff. Chaos Born is a close second.

Oh, there's not a thing wrong with not listening to older metal.

It's just a shame that not more people here are into it.

Iron Maiden has an eternal spot in my top 3. Queensryche in my top 5.

It's great that you like Catamenia, Ben, but that's not actually what I was asking. I recommend music to people a lot, but nobody really takes me seriously. :\

What do you think about the news that geoff tate is officially out of queensrych ruby? there seems to be a split down the middle for people who hate their new stuff

all albums they've released post-empire are trash.

I'm super happy I got to see them do livecrime in 2006, though.

can anyone recommend to me some avant-garde? I love stuff like maudlin of the well, in the woods, etc.

Yeah I think I liked like one song off each of their post empire stuff at most lol

Ana Kefr's album 'the burial tree' is really awesome, sorta got that maudlin feel http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AQSKlwYCmkg

Transcending Bizarre has some cool stuff. They remind me a bit of Unexpect except they're Greek and stuff and without the female lead http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZOUIQjXxbI

Arcturus is considered by a lot of people to be the forefront of avant garde stuff http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3qJG2oGzNBY

And Vulture Industries, which sounds a lot like them http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dtiSG7L68TQ

Ulver is pretty much completely fantastic but it's more in the spectrum of electronica, unless you're counting their early black metal stuff which is also fantastic http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AUQpHPPbdCI

and then there's like Frank Zappa and Mr Bungle too. I guess they're considerably weirder if you're looking for good weird ****

just got on a show with Abiotic and Dark Sermon (formerly known as In Reference to a Sinking Ship)

I don't give two ****s about Dark Sermon but ever since I first played with Abiotic I've become a massive fanboy and this show is at my band's record store which is a tiny nasty little venue we we gon get all up close and personal.

sooo, that means it's going to be really ****ing fun and intimate.

then soon after that we're playing another show with Fero Lux, Gillian Carter and AMBITIONIST

btw, check out Ambitionist. really really solid and passionate older-style metalcore. they are some of our best buds.

https://www.reverbnation.com/ambitionist

here's a vid I shot of their last show at our record store. they put on a fantastic show.

In Reference To A Shinking Ship is a pretty solid band. I believe that either some of my band mates WERE in that band, or they've played with them. Abiotic is solid as well.

So I got periphery II. There first time I listened through, I hated it. It's starting to grow on me, though.

That was like me with Protest's Scurrilous. Really didn't like it at first but now I love it. I just had to adapt to the new style I guess.

The Contortionist are just incapable of writing a bad song. Causality mmmmmmmmmmmmm'

Periphery II is really good too. Still waiting on BTBAM and The Faceless though...

still debating on Summer Slaughter or not. mostly for Faceless and BTBAM. idk though. I hate Cannibal Corpse and don't really care about JFAC and I'm mostly trying to save up money for equipment so i'm being stingy with shows.

I get to see Structures live. I'm so pumped. Actually I haven't posted them in this thread but they probably wouldn't be received very well. They're signed on Sumerian and they play Deathcore so... yeah. Architects will the at the show too. Protest will probably come through town as well.

The drummer for Structures is pretty good, but the band as a whole just can't hold my attention for a whole song. :/

I hate Cannibal Corpse
Curiosity, do you at least acknowledge their importance to metal? It's one thing to not like a band, but hate is strong language and seems to hint that you just don't like straight forward death metal as a whole.

Cannibal Corpse is one of the if not the most important bands in metal history.

With that said, they kinda suck. They're pioneers, yes, but they're ****ty pioneers.

Yes. There are tons of bands whom I platonically respect for their contribution to music and the genre itself, and I realize that many of the bands I like would not exist if it weren't for bands like CAnnibal Corpse...but at the same time, I just really dislike most if not all the music I've listened to by them.

It's a mixed bag that I can't really apply wholesale to any genre, but instead to singular bands. As an example, I might concede that Iron Maiden is an extremely vital aspect of heavy metal period...but I still think early (and recent) Blind Guardian is better. Things like influence and musical pioneering don't usually factor in too much when I'm listening to music. I don't lose sleep at night because I don't really enjoy any of the "big 4" of thrash metal all that much. I don't think it means I don't enjoy thrash metal as a whole. It just means I don't like Metallica and Anthrax and only casually like Slayer and Megadeth.

Going to Summer Slaughter in Atlanta hopefully.

I saw Structures with BoO and VoM. They only got to play 3 songs but they are really good live.

If you're one of the many people who disliked the new Baroness album stick with it. It's different, but it grew on me so maybe giving it a few more listens will have it grow on you.

Thirded

I think the Yellow half of the album is a little better though.
All in all they've got that signature tone and solid melodies that I just love.
I admit, after being a fanboy of Red and Blue, it took a few listens of their singles to wholly get used to the less-strained vocals, but he doesn't have a terrible voice :/ the overlapping vocal harmonies are a help in places though.

Anybody listen to Glass Cloud? Just downloading their album and I'm digging it. Apparently the guitarist used to be in the tony danza tapdance extravaganza

new BTBAM song "Telos"

http://www.metalblade.com/btbam/order.php

first impression is it's good but not really anything surprising or mindblowing. I definitely like how it's generally much heavier and more intense and something about the vocals this time around I really like. It's gonna take a few more listens to tell if I really like it or not though. I can't decide if it's too similar or too different from other BTBAM material. They've definitely settled into a style which kinda bugs me but is unavoidable I suppose. I predicted the smooth introspective jazz solo before it started but at least it's got other stuff going on as well.

The beginning riff is too similar to Disease, Injury, Madness, but overall its a pretty damn good song. I can't comment on how it sounds compared to their older stuff because, like you said, they settled on a sound, but I think that's what makes them special, even though I recognize some of the stuff from their older works, I remained interested throughout the song.

I feel pretty much the same. The improved vocals are the first thing I noticed, though I do miss the larger range he had in the silent circus and their first album. I could just be the song, but it feels like whatever I felt was missing out of the songs from the great misdirect is here now, so I'm looking forward to the res-

Yeah, that's one of the best ideas for preorders I've ever seen. Who doesn't like astronaut ice cream? :D
