hahahahaha this is awesome. I love stuff like this. it's just fun compulsive music with no concern for convention. my personal favorite japanese noise rock band is definitely Melt Banana. Agata, their guitarist, is a humongous influence on me. he does not a give a ****!!! and yet as chaotic and abstract as his guitar sounds are, he always seems to recreate the songs perfectly.

coincidentally they also did a cover of an old classic rock song XD

I've heard of these guys before! I think a friend of mine in Japan saw them live, but even if he didn't, I definitely remember him telling me about them. Good stuff.

Do any of you guys like horrorcore
No, but I would love to hear what it sounds like.

Edit: Don't double post, Derp.

Your thoughts?

For not really being a singer by any means, I was surprised at how much less gravely his yell is here than in previous albums.
Is it just me or is his voice also mixed in too loudly?
It just seems like a really simple song, so it doesn't really whet my appetite for the rest. It's a slightly sad day for this fan.

I don't hear the QOTSA, but it definitely is on the lighter side for Baroness. They've typically had 1 or 2 fairly tame songs on each album so I'm hoping that's the case with this song. I'll still check out the album when I get the chance to.

if you mean "to have integrity" and not mathematics ;), then could you explain?
In my eyes, to have integrity would mean to make a decision in your music making that was completely your own. For the sake of the music. Not corrupted by foreign influences. For it to have integrity, I think I need to know their intention.
I just feel like they wouldn't have decided to make a breakdown slower and slower unto ridiculousness if they didn't think it pushed them further and further away from convention. But their method becomes subject to convention once they're too concerned about avoiding it. So they kind of kick themselves in the *** as far as being true to themselves.
But then again, how can I say anything new or different has integrity if I don't give the benefit of the doubt that they genuinely thought it was the best idea for that song at the time :ohwell:
It's just that the idea itself seems kind of silly, like it's a joke song.

Just some thoughts

dude, it's We Butter the Bread With Butter. it's not a serious song and I'm pretty sure Greenareeno was being facetious.

hahaa when the vocals just devolve into a windy whistle sound is hilarious

Never heard of them before, so I wouldn't know

I guess I was right about it being a joke song then :ohwell:

I was just trying to maybe start an actual dialogue, man :urg:

that'll learn me

I appreciate that, I just feel like such discussion is almost "wasted" on a band like WBTBWB. I also feel that the humor of that breakdown is self apparent. Even if I didn't know the band or the band's intention behind it, it is ridiculous and silly in itself. You yourself acknowledge this. I don't think the artist's intention is all that important to be honest. Though, I guess once you start discussing "joke songs" then it really does have to boil down to what the artist was trying to do most of the time.

My new video

hopefully this is better than the last one i posted -.-
This sounds fine. Your guitar could stand to be a little louder for the recording though.

that little slow bendy note at 1:08 sounds a little flat at first but eventually you bend it into the right pitch. I don't know this song very well but I think you'll get a more accurate result if you bend the note a tiny bit before you pick the string. So when you pick, the note will already be a tiny bit sharp and then you will just bend it a little more like in the song. To me, this is what it sounds like that guitarist is doing.

solos found fine, if a little "thin". I might be wrong but it sounds like you are using the bridge pickup of the guitar during the solos, which imo doesn't usually sound too great with higher pitched leads up on the neck like that. I almost always switch to the neck pickup (or the piezo in my guitar's case) when I play nearly any lead because it pretty much always sounds better. Bridge pickups sound great for rhythm playing or anything with a "bite". It's hard to say for certain though, could just be your camera audio or whatever.

in other news, Weightless has finally clicked for me. I'm falling in love with all the beautifully strange chord progressions all the songs are built around. I also like how it's not as much just soulless robot shredding like their self titled album. there's still a lot, just not as much ^_^

Haha yeah that was sarcasm, I guess it wasn't obvious enough. Also there isn't and 'r' after the 'G' in my name. Very common mistake.

Of all the acts that rely on highly technical shredding abilities to create their sound Animals As Leaders is probably among the least robotic I can think of.

I dunno man, sure. it seems like you are often just disagreeing with me for the sake of it sometimes. I don't know if you actually expect me to argue what constitutes soul or soullessness but I'm not too interested in such a conversation.

anyways, found this band Stargazer.

They're alright. I'm mostly interested in them because they have the same space-metal gimmick that my band and some others have. it's almost become it's own sub-niche, hahaha. I'm going to do everything in my power to not have those ****ing djent guitar tones in my band's music though. **** that **** irritates me.

I can't even think of what a coherent argument would be like in such a conversation. "Steve Vai does not remote controlled prosthetic limbs!" Either way, no. I just think we happen to have the opposite tastes in metal.

Gaza owns pretty hard.

that harp(?) in the beginning was very cool

I don't really like Meshuggah, but I absolutely adore AAL/Within the Ruins/After the Burial/Haunted Shores/Ever Forthright

Yeah, I find groups like Ever Forthright infinity times more interesting than Meshuggah. I've always found Meshuggah kinda meh, and it's pretty weird how they've inspired a whole subgenre like 15 years after they initially came out with that sound, lol.

The djent guitar tone isn't bad. I just hate how every goddamn band has it now. I blame AxeFX. I don't want my band to sound like that is all even though everyone else in the band is way into djent, lol. Same reason I try not to write breakdowns too much or shove a bunch of bass drops into songs. I'm sick of that stuff from overexposure.

Everything Meshugga has ever done is meh, but they are respectable in the sense that they explored new sounds and pretty much defined a genre.

If you are going to make music, why make something that you can fit into a genre? If you are attempting to sound like other bands, you're not contributing to metal in general. You're trying to emulate other bands.

That is where Meshugga is such an amazing band. They have so much merit as a musical entity.

I think a lot of the djent bands miss what makes Meshuggah so great. It's something that may be off putting to much, but the extreme repetition of riffs with that thick guitar tone is absolutely hypnotic. It's like listening to some of the most tripped out psychedelic of rock bands, but heavy to the point that it's no longer relaxing. They're the musical equivalent of watching a David Lynch movie.

played a show last night, opening for a bunch of pop-punk bands :3 was hella fun

got a pretty good quality recording of one of our new songs. At the time I wasn't really happy with our performance of it, but the video sounds better than I expected

"Yeah, buddy." XD

I love how this song progressed, very nice flow throughout (the first riff seemed influenced by a part of BTBAM's Fire for a Dry Mouth, idk if that's just me that heard it a bit. either way it still sounds badass).

Periphery released their new single a couple days ago. It sounds... ....like Periphery. :bee:

the end of Fire for a Dry Mouth is one of my favorite moments in music so I would not be surprised if I was subconsciously influenced by it for more than one riff. Personally, the first riff in our song reminds me of the first riff in Obfuscation espeically in t his video.

in fact it's funny you said that, because I described another new song I'm writing to the bandmates as "a ripoff of the last minute of Fire For a Dry Mouth". what can I say, it's a good song. I wish the whole song was on that level. I really dig the style on BTBAM's self titled album. The rawness of it charms me even more than their more intricate music they make today.

@that Periphery

sounds like Protest the Hero! I thought it was Protest for a minute with that singing.

This song is pretty good. I love the more rock and rolly vibe to it. I like it more than old Periphery at least.

The vocals on the new Periphery track are awful, and the attempt to simplify their sound just makes it more dull. This is definitely a disappointment for me.

What? The vocals are definitely a step up. I honestly couldn't stand Spencer's voice on some parts of the self-titled.

Check out Corelia if you are fans of Periphery/PTH
