There's a part in the ending i kinda goofed, but it wasn't a big mistake or anything. That and theres one part in the sweeping i know i goofed on. But, it's a 9 minute song, and i think i did pretty well.
Are those ATH-M50's? Awesome headphones and awesome playing.

Also, The Contortionist is pretty great. Thanks for the recommendation, LT.

I just saw The Contortionist last night in Atlanta. Amazing show. Got to chill with the guitarist and bassists afterwards.

Lmao.

You can talk about leaks, just don't say where to get them, etc. Talking about a leak isn't the issue.

But anyway, I've never listened to them before. What's a good example of their stuff?

I like their first album the best, but I'd say their second one is a lot more popular

my fav Faceless song is Leica

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7kiK0S87fXo

their second album is a kinda different style. still cool, but not as much my thing

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fMWVIYjAx_I

first impressions of the new one is eh, but I think it will grow on me. way too much clean vocals that are kind of annoying. musically it's probably the most diverse but idk, it didn't completely grab me too much. after waiting so long it's a little disappointing. i think it's a grower

I'm starting to like Autotheism more and more. It's definitely a grower.

Although I hate The Eidolon Reality chorus... should have stuck with the pre-production chorus.

Haven't listened to Autotheism yet.
Does it sound anything like The Contortionist's new album? I heard one live song on Youtube and it kind of reminded me of them.

Autotheism just ruins itself all over the place :(, its a shame because there are some very nice moments guitar-wise that are just crapped on by either the vocals or the random "experimental" moments that they tried to do, the crying babies thing just didn't work.

When I listened to The Contortionist's new album, all I could think was "Last Chance To Reason did it better." Seriously, the sound was ridiculously similar.

Not really. Intrinsic is like synthy space prog, and Autotheism is like nu-metal neo classical with stupid saxophone interludes. Autotheism is a lot heavier, but I think Intrinsic wipes the floor with it personally. At least the clean vocals on Intrinsic sound good.

Considering LC2R and The Contortionist are all good friends, you will hear some similarities, but Intrinsic sounds nothing like Level 2...

Though I love L2, Intrinsic was still pretty damn good, quite a few gems, should fare well on most Top 10 List for this year (though is looking to be on the bubble for my personal one, currently ranked 8th). The connection I made was a rather loose one, yes, but I still felt they were going for a similar musical idea, one I felt LC2R executed better. Still, The Contortionist will be going places because of this album.

Yeah, it was the direction I hoped they would go in. It isn't Exoplanet but Intrinsic gets a 9/10 in my book (Not a fan of the last song).

Level 3 should be out sometime this year hopefully.

so what's everyone listening to lately? not necessarily new stuff

me:

-Lantlos .neon album. One of my most cherished discoveries, thanks to whoever posted them in this thread! "Coma" is one of the most emotional black metal songs ever. really good band in general for very expressive and passionate music.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lz735HTbs8E

-Rolo Tomassi as always. their new album is my most anticipated release this year and that's saying a lot! I think they are one of the most underrated and overlooked bands working today. Their second album Cosmology is a modern-day mathcore classic imo.

http://youtu.be/-RXQt-iN6JA

http://youtu.be/AFwr7esubZo

-Dillinger w/ Mike Patton EP Irony is a Dead Scene. This was the last album before Dillinger started to get kinda lame.

-Darkest Hour Deliver Us is a classic album to me and makes me very nostalgic. I think it's way better than any other Darkest Hour album. Like, wayyyy better. Kris Norris is the man.

-Bubblegum Octopus Bad Happy spazzpop chiptune grindcore ??? music. It is actually really really good album if you are willing to let yourself go and give in to its whimsy

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wcfSBYbma1E

-Agalloch Marrow of the Spirit. getting in that wintery mood even though I live in florida and it probably won't get cold for many months to come. great atmospheric and moody album.

-Converge When Forever Comes Crashing. it's ****ing Converge.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A6kabzmbjuU

-Scale the Summit The Collective. awesome chill instrumental smooth prog jams

http://youtu.be/lBDibOrDgaM

Psyopus. what-the-hell music. Chris Arp is one of my all time favorite guitar players though

http://youtu.be/S1niaUl-XyA

-Holly Maddux. "sunshine state swampcore". My band's going on tour with these guys and I happen to think their music is really good and really fun. I like their electronic bits and I even like the cheesy rap parts. it's just fun and i can't wait to play with them.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pni6PLLZyD8

-Pastime. nother local band. melodic post-hardcore. cool vocals and lyrics and very pretty melodic structure

between the buried and me released samples of all of their songs, if anyone finds interest in listening to 10 seconds of something lol

I haven't found any new stuff that I've really gotten into. I guess the closest thing lately would be "Plains of the Purple Buffalo" by *shels
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p0iBcNEhqMU

I've been revisiting Light Bearer - Lapsus a lot lately though
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UiB4zlQumVs

Ne Obliviscaris, it's like a proggy black metal/death metal with an amazing violinist. It's hard enough to use violins with metal and not have it sound annoyingly cheesy, but this dude pretty much makes this band for me

Been kinda lazy with my listening to other music lately, currently writing an album for my electronic project, but the past couple of days have been mostly with Cerebral Bore, Epica, Equilibrium, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Tasters, and Rise To Remain, along with the new Yellowcard CD and my ever increasing impatience for the new BTBAM record. :awesome:

I'm kinda embarassed about enjoying Cerebral Bore as much as I do. I saw them sometime before Summer Slaughter and they gave a terrible terrible performance so when I listened to their songs I was taken aback at the quality of the production and that many of the songs are just plain sick.

still though, they shouldn't have been on Summer Slaughter especially over bands like Fallujah

A Lot Like Birds has encompassed my listening for the past few weeks. Very good progressive/post-hardcore band. Kurt Travis is the leader singer now (ex-Dance Gavin Dance)

speaking of favorite albums of 2012- the more I listen to it the more I fall in love with the new Cattle Decap

just holy **** balls to the wall slamming brutality the whole time. this band and type of music isn't really my THING too much but this ****'s just too good. I've listened to it way more than all the other notable metal releases from this year. i really like the vocals especially

I can't even get the entire way through any of their new songs because they're so monotonous and boring.

They do have that set progressive sound, but I like it. It takes a lot of listens before you really like it, but isn't that the same for all of metal?

I think "suck" is over the top but I think they've been declining in quality since Colors. The Parallax 1 is honestly really really weak in comparison to any other BTBAM material. The songs all have great introductions but end up just going nowhere in the end, and the first two songs especially just seem like a random mess of riffs on top of riffs. I mean that's cool or whatever, I can listen to BTBAM riffs for days but nothing on Parallax really moves me emotionally except maybe the solo in Lunar Wilderness. More critically, the song structures themselves are just really kinda lazy, so disappointing and that sucks because that's what I like most about the band.

my problem with modern BTBAM mostly boils down to this though: Self-Titled, Silent Circus, Alaska and Colors are all completely different sounding albums. There was still a natural progression from album to album and they all have their signature moments but their overall sound was so diverse and the albums all offered extremely different experiences.

then after Colors, they decided that that was specifically what they wanted to do and so everything after that just seems like a kinda uninspired retreading of the same ground. Great Misdirect and Parallax 1 are both works that are easily described as "they are like Colors". The music is increasingly complex and intricate...but idk, it's definitely losing its appeal. Technical prowess only hooks me so much.

I've FINALLY started to like The Parallax one, and it's been out for a year now? But yeah, a lot of their death metal riffs are just incredibly monotonous and boring. But that comes with really long songs I guess.

Listening to 80's era blind guardian for.the first time.

This is so much better than their overproduced crap everyone loves.

Blind Guardian is pretty heavily produced music though. I would definitely consider Blind Guardian in the "overproduced" category. Maybe not 80s BG so much, but definitely 90s-00s. The difference is that they are wonderful songwriters and it really doesn't matter.

anyways, new Chariot is out and I just started listening to it. First song is raw and gnarly. It's pretty decent!

Yay ... <3 Blind Guardian

Although they are the band that made me listen to every album before considering buying it. ANATO is okayish, but not on par with their other stuff for me (and they didn't stop there :x). Still, bought everything up to that point, and would do so again :D
In case anybody who cares doesn't know already, there is a musical side project (main project by now, since he left BG) of Thomen: Savage Circus. They are much closer to original Blind Guardian (original meaning Tales to Nightfall era... not Battalions / Follow the Blind. Although those two are great as well of course :D).

I had a friend who listened to every band that sounded like blind guardian, yet had never heard of blind guardian. Nightfall in middle earth is so classic

*shrug* literally everyone I know who listens to them has a different opinion on them. Personally their self titled and the silent circus annoys me except for a few songs, and I think Colors was their best album.
But I've heard all of their albums listed as someone's favorite at some point.
Either way it's not like their old stuff is going anywhere.

As far as I'm concerned the only bg albums are their first two and imaginations. Everything else is unlistinable.
