Zelda is my life. I have posters on my wall. If there is a chance of the series being ruined for me, I'm going to become melodramatic! :p
lol Buzzsaw, you are too cool. +rep
So who here hopes that Tingle keeps out of this one?
I want Tingle in the game. They only semi-kept him out of TP and in place put Purlo. He cameoed as statues in ST. Face it, they can't keep him out. He may not be a character this time around, but he'll most likely make his way in as an easter egg of sorts.

As long as I don't have to give him money, help him out of jail or enrich his life in any way I'm fine with it.

Isn't kind of ironic that the darkest (and in some fan's eyes, the best) game in the franchise introduced the most upbeat and annoying character? How the Japanese can find that thing cute is beyond me... I blame all of the moe moe and kawaii.

I think it's more of a joking, construed cuteness to the point of not actually being cute, but annoyingly comedic. I think the funniest thing about Tingle is that he keeps recurring. It's like, "aww ****, AGAIN!? COME ON YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING ME," but then he's not really a gamebreaker sans Wind Waker so you don't complain all that much. He's an obstacle that you can't get rid of without paying exorbitant amounts of cash. Tingle is Nintendo's way of trolling us and in some ways, just rubbing in our faces the mere fact that they're making tons of cash off of us with every Zelda installment.

You've got a point. Now that I think about it, I really didn't start to hate Tingle until WW rolled around. I remember thinking he was just kind of annoying in MM and... actually, Tingle hasn't been in that many LoZs.

He still annoys the crap out of me, though.

Oh I see how it is... Hatred for Tingle is widely accepted. Hatred for graphics is taboo.

Well, you know what? I hate you all...

That was sarcasm... I really hope you caught onto that...

I love Tingle. He's hysterical.
Seriously. Why do guys hate Tingle so much?
Or is it just fun to hate him?

It's just funny, I guess. My last comment was a sarcastic point about how he's so hated, but he is indeed a very quirky person. Creepy, too. He's just kind of there to me though.

So would you guys like to share with the class on why you dislike tingle?
Basically, you're wondering why most people don't like Tingle, right? My reasons:

1: He's annoying - Tingle, your magic words are stupid and so is your persona of pitifully attempted cuteness.

2: He's creepy - The man looks like a pedophile and he's thirty years old but is convinced that he's a fairy.

3: He's clearly mentally handicapped/partially insane - The fact that he's... special is not an issue. But I don't find people in his condition cute in anyway, just pitiful. And fused with how freaking creepy the man is does not bring it into the territory of me feeling so bad for him that I want to help him. And if you haven't noticed, he's thirty years old and is convinced that he's a fairy. If that doesn't show signs of any sort of insanity, then I don't know what does.

4: The Wind Waker thing rubbed me the wrong way I guess - So let me get this straight, the only person in the entire Great Sea who can read and translate Ancient Hyrulian is a creepy, mentally handicapped man who is probably sick in the head and writes in crayon? Then he goes on to charge me insane amounts of money for it? To hell with you Tingle, to hell with you and your annoying antics, mannerisms and con-artists skills below all of that creepiness and insanity. I better not ever have to look at your ugly mug to see the end of a Zelda title ever again.

I agree that I do find Tingle to be slightly...weird but honestly I think that's what makes him good. To me, someone has done their job in creating a good character when it is remembered. While Tingle is viewed as creepy or strange, I think he's very funny.

Hmm, maybe I'm just weird myself, for liking the characters that stand out so much for being bizarre, haha.

Well, Yink, don't get me wrong, I do actually like things that are different from the norm (EarthBound, for example). But to me, Tingle isn't really the "cool" or interesting" kind of weird, but more of the "creepy and annoying" kind. But to each his own.

And can we not have both? Zant is the "cool or interesting" kind of weird and Tingle is the "creepy and annoying" kind. One thing that is consistent in Zelda is the variety in the fundamental aspects that make up the game, from world and puzzle design, to personality types behind characters and enemies.

Um... I never said that we can't have only one kind of weird in Zelda but regardless I do agree with your post.

Man was Zant nuts, it's a shame that Ganny decides to hijack the plot in the last hour of the game. I'm pretty sure that what they were trying to do is replicate the same twist from ALttP that Agahnim was actually Gannondorf. It didn't work out so well the second time around and felt more like they were just trying shoehorn him in.

Yep. Didn't know that.
And that's why I shouldn't have read this thread this morning.
That's also why you use spoiler tags.

I hope Vaati is the main enemy in Skyward Sword for the whole story.
I wouldn't mind a whole new character, though. I just think Vaati would be awesome in a home console Zelda.

Spoiler tags? For a game that came out almost 2 decades ago? I mean, not everyone has played the game (myself included), but you can't expect everyone to just not talk about the game for 2 decades except in spoiler tags.

I don't care how old it is. Not everybody has played it the whole way through. The spoiler tag option is there for a reason. It was a major plot twist in the game. You wouldn't need spoiler tags in, say, an A Link to the Past discussion thread because you would expect to possibly get something spoiled for you about the game, but I seriously didn't expect the end of the game to be ruined for me in a Skyward Sword thread.

But seriously, I'm over it. It's okay.
Let's get back on subject.

Sorry for Spoiling the game, Ace. Seeing how the game have been around for about twenty years now I pretty much assumed that it was one of those twists that everyone knows. Like how most people I know already know that
Gannondorf shows up at the end of TP, regardless of if they've played the game or not.

No sweat. I get moody sometimes. And seriously, if I don't want things to get ruined for me, I shouldn't be online.
Don't feel bad.

Wait. 3 dungeons in? I'm in the fifth dungeon.
Man I suck at reading. I new that Ganon was in after I saved the first maiden, but I didn't realize the connection. I'm an idiot.

So, sorry Finalark. I was too stupid to even realize that I already knew it.

Anyway, enough of this. Skyward Sword looks awesome.

@ The Tingle conversation:
As a Tingle fan myself, I'd like to just point out a few thing's.

1) Tingle is supposed to be a comic-relief character, which is why he looks "strange" an whatnot. And, he obviously appeals to the Japanese more than other places.

2) I don't see how he is creepy to some of you guys. He believes he's a fairy at 35 years of age, yes, but he's not a pedophile or anything bad, he's a cartographer.

He's a useful character selling maps and whatnot. The 398 priced deciphering is not a lot in WW. Rupees come at you like a bad habbit in that game, an I had no problems paying him. In fact, I hardly buy things in Zelda, and always have my wallet full. I hope they work on that in SS.

I wouldn't be surprised seeing him in SS with the half cel-shade graphics and whatnot. He' fit in their good.

Anyways, I just don't see the problem at all with Tingle. I think he fits in great for the Zelda Universe. I guess it's opinion on things like everything else, but oh well. No need to argue on Tingle.

* Oh, btw, I haven't been around, but do you guys think Ganon will be the antagonist this time around, or no? I personally am thinking no, but..

Oh, and hello to everyone who I know here. It's been a while. :)

I like Tingle, I've always seen him as a kind of parallel to Link. This is even more reinforced in his DS game

Hello there!

Also I do agree, I have a feeling Ganon will not be the antagonist. Which to me would be refreshing. While I love Ganon, I just want to see another, good memorable baddie.

I also cannot wait for lots of character designs to come out. Zelda games always stun me in the artwork field. Though in TP I didn't like some of the character models themselves (I thought Colin was a girl for a good period of time) so I can only hope SS does a better job. It looks like it already is though.

Yeah I saw that, I just don't want Ganon unless they can do something truly awesome with him. Ganon pre-OoT is going to redefine Zelda lore ten times over. Maybe they're taking the "a Gerudo male is born once ever 100 years" bit into consideration.

Does anyone have the latest Nintendo Power? I believe there was a lot more stuff confirmed/debunked, such as there not being a Pegasus Epona (to my dismay :< ), and confirming the mixture of puzzles and bosses into the overworld instead of sticking them solely in dungeons, etc.

edit: NVM. There's a link to the NP article scan.

hurts my eyes to read it though

Yeah I have it. If I get time, I'll type the interview up. I was intended to when I first got the issue, but I saw that the scans made it up on the web.

If I'm not mistaken, the only Zelda games where Ganon wasn't the antagonist were the portable games (all of them with the exception of an OoA/OoS linked game.)

Dude, I'm hoping we either don't see Ganon or if we do see Ganon he isn't the big baddy. Imagine playing a game where Ganondorf is a younger version and he is actually a good guy and helps you through the game. And after you get the Triforce you see him plotting to take it and 100000000 years later Ocarina of Time.

For some reason, this triggered in my mind something similar to Jango and Boba Fett, where our Ganon is similar to Boba and this games big bad is similar to Jango (not necessarily related by blood though).

I feel ashamed of myself.
