I have to say, watching soccer is almost golf level.

Dq9 sounds like a blast. Is it easy to play if you've never played dq before? Is it an intensive rpg or more like pokemon? From what i know of dq i remember it being very earthboundish in battle.
It's Earthboundish in the sense that the battle system is very traditional, 100% turn-based, HP, MP, etc. It places a heavy focus on the class system, which is very flexible and interesting. There are also a large variety of weapons that you can specialize in semi-independently from the classes (each class can use 3 weapons, but if you max out the skill points in a weapon, you can use it with any class). And of course there are tons of abilities and skills and effects outside of the basic attack/heal/buff spells, and there are tons of different enemies and side-quests and special randomly-generated dungeons and post-game content. Combine that with the excellent multiplayer system and the huge amount of different equipment, all of which changes your character's appearance, and this game will keep you hooked for a loooong time.

I can honestly say I've never had more fun in an rpg not even pushing the main story forward. Just wandering aimlessly or grinding or hunting for alchemy materials is all very fulfilling, probably because the combat is interesting and you can switch classes any time you want to mix it up (and you are rewarded for it).

I may be getting DQ9 soon. What I need to know is what the plan is for this weekend. I'm told Bandit's taking us to a soccer game, which may be the perfect time for me to break in DQ9.

Anyway, what classes are there in this game, and which one do you recommend that I become?

Warrior - Should be self-explanatory. Good attack/defense, good equipment, lacking in abilities.

Martial Artist - More offense-oriented, fast.

Mage - Focused on attack spells, ****ty equipment.

Priest - Focused on healing, ok defensive equipment.

Thief - Fast, can steal, interesting abilities.

Minstrel - Jack of all trades, ok spells and attack/defense and equipment, interesting abilities.

Unlocked later:

Gladiator - Pure offense, slow as dirt.

Paladin - Focused on defense and protecting the party.

Ranger - Don't really know how to describe this one. Sort of like a thief.

Armamentalist - Focused on party buff spells. Decent fighting ability for a mage.

Sage - All-around spellcaster. Healing and attack.

Luminary - Another jack of all trades with weird abilites.

It's easy to switch between classes but I guess you should still focus on filling some role. I've been making my main guy into a Paladin, TH's been focusing on Ranger (I think), and Waffle is in love with the Armamentalist. Just go with whatever you feel comfortable with.

But regardless, it's not something you really need to worry about for a while. A far more important early-game decision is what weapon to use, because you really shouldn't waste skill points in more than one weapon class. I'm using spears, TH is using knives, and Waffle is using swords I believe. There are also axes, bows, claws, staves, wands, clubs, fans, boomerangs, whips, and maybe a few others I can't remember.

Anyway, no date tonight, so I'm free. TH, if you wanna come over tonight and play some DQ9, I'd be down ;)

I assume Kaiser too, but only for the same reason JCz is coming: as an excuse to bust out DQ9 :D

@JCz: Ranger is a light support attacker that focuses on precision strikes (it has out of world abilities like Vanish that allow it to become invisible to enemy monsters, and has the highest deftness rating, which governs critical hits and theft success, making it a better thief than the Thief class lol).

I'm going Ranger. I was originally going to go Thief, but the Ranger has superior stats in everything but HP and agility, has a better coup de grace, and has a better and wider range of support spells, including everything the Thief has.

I'll head out to your place after work for some good DQ9. I kept my Ranger at 26 so I wouldn't be too overleveled (I think your highest vocation is 23? I know Waffle's was).

I'm currently a lvl 19 Paladin and don't plan on switching classes much anymore unless a specific situation calls for something different. At least not until I max out the skills for Paladin and shield.

Assuming we play in my story, I've got a lvl 20 MA and a lvl 20 Arma to bring along. The Arma uses wands and has Caduceus so he's actually a pretty decent healer. Though my Pally makes healing unnecessary :p

What time are you coming? BWW tonight? obv

I'm leaving work right now. I'll probably be leaving the house at 5 by the time I get gas, get home, and get ready. I assume since it's rush hour, I'll get there anywhere between 7-8. If you can not starve until then, I'm good for BWW.

I will post a video of guy losing to a random mario in regular brawl later this week, maybe tomorrow

Edit: You guys should've come to Otakon just for DQ9. Like literally, malcolm would just walk around the place with DQ9 on and people would randomly populate his room in sleep mode and give him treasure maps.

I don't think they knew that the Convention Center was right on the path of the light rail. We took the light rail to the soccer game later and saw a nice costumed crowd.

Also, Waffle beat me to my girl... twice!

I kinda regret not going to Otakon. Sounds like it was a lot of fun. I may try to go to the next one (I still hate anime though).

And I'll pass on the Bawrl vids. I don't need a sleep aid.

I knew. I guess I thought it would be easier if we all went down together. And I didn't know if we'd be able to get in anyway. I dunno. Probably could've done things differently with a little more planning. Oh well.

Its more a vid on guy's face expression while losing than it is about brawl from what I saw.....otakon is more than just anime btw.....I think any gamer in general would like to go. Unless you're really anti-social :p

I think it worked out well as it did. The dinner got everyone familiar with one another which probably alleviated any awkwardness (not that I noticed any).

lol stfu, I ***** stations and didn't afraid of **** (besides the meta***s) :(

Barlw sucks, but man, it's pretty fun playing it at the con for some reason...I mean it's FFAs with randoms, wtf, that's not supposed to be that fun. And JC you should definitely come, I stayed in the game room for 60% of the weekend. It's an amazing place. And it has imports. ;o I mostly played BBCS/TvC/SF though, fun times. I also tried playing melee and some other gaems.

...speaking of game room...was playing Gears 2, this one random mexican guy started some sort of revolution defying chair rules, kicking people who were doing bad off the stations and denying anyone access o_0 he kicked a kid (I swear he was 8) off and I almost felt sorry for him, then these random black guys my age started screaming and cursing and crap when they won or lost, like ghetto *******es, so the mexican *** became one of them and I WTF'd hard. they were there the WHOLE DAY

felt good to **** them all.

stfu tantalus I hate you and you're a ******

GOD****IT CHILL OUT!

My Youtube search was failing atm :(. It's back now though.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1rgIV4AU8L4

He's also got a new song that I just found with Andy Miloiunnoidon'tgivea****abouthim. Unsurprisingly titled "Hoes on my ****"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HcZGsYTAvH4

I'm surprised how he could write a book. I was under the impression he couldn't even tie his shoes.

I guarantee you though, next year I'm going to go to Ota as Lil B. With a sign that says "HUNDRED MILLION $#*^@ HUNDRED THOUSAND!". Hoes will be all up on my **** obv. I need someone to go with me as Andy Milo****it.

EDIT: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7tklYWVV-xY&feature=related

Omg he's done it again. I'm really starting to wonder whether or not he's some kind of parody of contemporary rap and is really just a giant troll.

Geez, thanks for making my spear feel inadequate...
It's k. With all that Forebearing, you won't have a chance to show it off anyway :p

Vist texted me btw wanting to know what our plans are for Apex. He said he has a group of 3 not including us or himself going up to Apex. Problem is his boys want to leave for the venue Friday morning. I'm willing to compromise and get my Friday shift covered, but I'd have to drive up to your place early Friday morning, and I wasn't sure how you felt about leaving then in the first place. Told him to talk to you and he'd also talk with the rest of his party about seeing if leaving on Friday morning is absolutely necessary.

EDIT:

I'd be fine with that. I have a million vacation days, so getting off on Friday isn't a problem.

So what's the plan? Carpool with them? House with them too? Do they have a room? I'd be fine with all that. I'm not particularly fond of our current housing situation anyway.

Edit: Testing new sig...

I'll text Vist asking exactly what his plans are. I know he wants to room with us, and they managed to score a room, but I'm not sure whether we're carpooling together or what.

Also I just wanted to say I have the Sacred Armor. That's all. ^_^

FFFFFFFFFFfffffffffffff

I heard the BBR put out a new ruleset. No ledge grab limit and a ton of really ******** stages. I guess they want Brawl to die as much as I do.

Distant Planet, Port Town, and Luigi's are all back on CP. Yay 08. I like Luigi's and even Pirate ship, but Port Town yuck.

I want the hacked stages like Hyrule and the jungle and stuff to replace my useless levels, anyway that can happen? Can someone send me stage files?

Yeah I can give you some very special stages if you promise not to distribute them to anyone.

And what do you mean "Port Town yuck"? It's amazing for both MK and ROB. No one else even stands a chance there.

Good news: Thanks to my new phone, I can hop on the internet on my laptop in my office, so I can be online all day :bee:

Oh my god I may actually want to enter Brawl now. Just for the lulz and curiosity of how bad this new ruleset could be. Good thing I'll be bringing DQ9. I might actually get through a high level grotto by the time one of my sets are over :bee:
