Liberal as in 05-06 stagelist is fine, that's what I'm used to anyway. New gen Melee players play wayyy to scared with stages.

Double post, who gives a flying f!u!ck

Looking very likely ATM, even though my midterms are next week, is a smashfest at my place on Sunday.

What's so special about this Smashfest?

For one, I'll be making cookies.

Smash-wise, people will have a chance to watch Crew Placement Battles for Sfield v Cincy at Nope's next monthly (just in case, y'know, that it actually happens)

Currently we have:
Kel Y.b.M. Infern Overswarm Tako Daycia Kassandra

guaranteed on the crew. Daycia and Kassandra are now power ranked (last I heard they were HMs) and have never played in a crew battle before, so they get priority over others. I understand some people's objections to this (i.e. personal perceptions of skill, Smash64 having a better performance over his whole tournament history) but I am trying to balance the people factor vs. the results factor vs. skill factor (because results don't always = skill).

The crew placement battle will be for 8th spot/1st Sub/2nd sub.
Competing for these spots are Sai, clowsui, Steel Samurai, Sorasin, Luminoth and Smash64.
None of us really care THAT much about the crews spot to compete for it, but since we're all in contention and all of us don't mind playing each other/want to play each other seriously since we've never gotten the chance to, we'll do it anyways.

Even if Smash64 does deserve the spot over all the rest of us, he'll just prove it through the round robin :p

OS and Steel might not make it which is why I have two sub positions.

Other than that, this smashfest is pretty much normal. I'm thinking of having it go from 6-12. Since MLG DC is the week following, I'll open up the HDTV for general usage. I'd like at least five setups so we can use three for the RR and two for friendlies.

for the record i predict that steel samurai/smash64/me will take 8/1sub/2sub because of ness v marth but who knows

think about "People", "Results" and "Skill", then come back to me about Smash being an auto crew member.

People being: Does this person want to be in? Are they excited about being in a crew battle? Have they done a crew battle before?
Results being: How does this person place? Have they been doing well in MMs/Bracket? What about Doubles?
Skill being: What is your personal perception of their skill? What do you think the general perception of their skill is?

the other "non-shoe-ins" that are part of your list have all earned their right to challenge smash's automatic position. unless the power rankings says otherwise, I propose that Kass and Day be auto part of crews because they have never been in crew battles/love Cincy, have performed solidly/shown improvement, and in terms of the overall B-team list are equal in skill.

Meanwhile, Smash64 has been in multiple crew battles + doesn't really care either way about being in the crew (unless he says otherwise, I'm making judgments off of his personality), hasn't been performing well for a while (while that's mostly due to job-related stuff and not being able to practice as much, this is why people who are practicing more recently and showing results get it over him) in both singles and doubles, and in terms of the overall B-team list is only a little bit better on average

if smash64 is really better than us, then have him prove it. if you're going to say something like "oh well what if he's playing bad on sunday?" well, there's just as good a chance he'll play bad on the day of the crew battle. this possibility also exists for the other people on the list, but i'm going to let everybody rematch so it's not that big of a deal, this smashfest is just a convenient way for us to play each other + help ppl prep for DC

watch, i'm going to get a response like "unless ed gets in automatically i'm dropping out". don't be so selfish/inconsiderate. why is it fair that we put someone who hasn't been showing how well he's been doing lately and whose skill we aren't able to judge very well, on our crew?

i mean, this crew battle probably isn't going to happen anyways + i'm really not taking it as seriously as my post sounds but i'm annoyed that me and other Cincy "B-skill" don't get to prove ourselves because of your bias. i love ed, but i'm confident i could do well against him as could steel, kass, day, sora, lumi and sai.

Elitism will kill your scene if its A players dont recognize their B/C players.

Have your pride, yet be humble enough to love more than just yourself. Give back, and you scene will become strong.

Don't and end up like Washington state. Bitter, broken and smashless.

The main thing is... Infern, Kel, 64, OS, and Myself have a rivalry with Springfield...ya dig?

Lou, Fonz, Nope, Champ, and Capem/Warfie are our Main rivals for real. While it's cool to do a crew battle with a lot of people involved... I think It'll take away from the point we're trying to make to one another.

Although, I'm down regardless and don't mind the Cincy peeps to hold it down as one. Just a little food for thought...

I see where you're coming from, but keep in mind that at the moment, Springfield is also including peeps that aren't in your list of rivals. Unless they agree to exclude those people, you're not going to get Infern/Kel/64/OS/Y.b.M. vs. Nope/Lou/Fonz/Capem/Champ.

I can't speak for Springfield, so I don't have any further words to say on that branch of the matter. If they don't agree to exclude those three "B" members, then we'll have to have people to match them. If 64 is part of that "rivalry", then I guess the round robin would be playing for substitute positions even though I am HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY against this and I would MUCH rather a RR be played out for 8/Sub1/Sub2. My rivalry with Springfield, while not results based, is pretty strong too (lol **** talk).

LOL idk i just have a ton of city pride and i thought it'd be better for this to be coordinated

edit: BTW, Nope said he doesn't care if you guys do your own thing against Smashfield, but city crews would be coming first.

Nope: it's our Crew vs your city
our crew has 9
Fonz, Me, Champ, Capem, Lou, Warfie, Sin, Sil, Wakka
if they want to crew battle with there own made up crew we can
in addition to city crews

Bleh, I am excited to play this game now, but idk if I'd want to be on the crew battle

I'm trying to improve my mentality while playing, so my play may have a slight decline for a while
And that I'm thinking about using a secondary character for the next tourny I attend

But I'd still like to come sunday and play the round robin, and see how I feel about my character choice

lol ramin2good

uh DJ idk for the sake of the RR i'd like you to play Marth unless you're not confident that you'd be entering Nope's as Marth. the next tournament that you're likely to go to is DU V or at least one event before Nope's

this RR is looking 50/50 right now, I'm going to have to bust my *** doing HW and studying across these next few days, wish me luck and if i talk to you on AIM go bug me to study or do HW instead
