It's ok, I myself had no idea of the meaning of it, I only assumed.
Anyway thank you for doing that research, it's interesting...
No problem, also for those who haven't check, check out the interview. It has some interesting infos that you may have not know before.

It is fan-videos like these that make me think Lip had a big fan base that voted for the fairy in the ballot. It’s bigger dedication than other retro games like Murasame Castle.
Yeah this series gets the most dedication compared to some other retro Nintendo series I know of, at least those not represented in Smash with a playable rep. Hopefully Nintendo takes notice.

Hitoshi: We get a lot of fan letters. A lot of our biggest fans seem to have gotten into the game because of the art. Lots of people saying things like “I tried it because the graphics were cute, but the game is actually really fun, too!” So, if we were to make a sequel, we would definitely want to keep the same visual style. You’d better get working on a story about what happens after Lip becomes queen, To****aka. (laughs)
Man, what could have been.

Also, I find it interesting they explicitly referenced Battle Clash.

Smash Bros didn't stop me from lighting princesses on fire or hit 12 year old psychic kids in the head with a baseball bat so why should this be any different? In the end, they're all living trophies and the game is about as violent as playing with action figures.
I mean, the first game already conditioned us by even beating up the likes of :ultkirby:, :ultyoshi: and Pokémon. This shouldn't be much of a deal breaker.

Besides, some people would be annoyed at Isabelle's exposure and blow off some steam by roughing her up regardless.

The op was a interesting read and I was surprised to find out her game was created by a legend like Gunpei Yokoi. Let's complete and bring Yokoi's entire legacy into Smash! I support!

Yeah....that is a good point.
Sakurai might put Lip in smash just to complete yokoi’s legacy alone. If he does so, good on him. It would be the ULTIMATE form of respect.

I really want to see this happen, but like I said, I'm starting to worry with the rumors that Steve is playable that Ultimate, and Smash in general these days, is more about putting in recognizable names that will be able to sell amiibo rather than celebrating Nintendo's rich history. (Whether or not they would have an interesting moveset or genuinely stand out is irrelevant as long as it's able to make them more money.)

Ehhh, screw the Steve leak at this point.
There are so many annoying contradictory leaks now (It seems more like a flood now) that they all are fake as far as I’m concerned.
(There’s now a leak talking about Tamagon from Devil World, lmao)

I want to think it's fake, but really, these two leakers have gotten so much about the game right that I've preemptively accepted it just so my spirits won't be crushed later.

...you really have to love how these fake leakers are picking Tamagon, of all characters, as a retro/Japan-only character just to be contrarian to the people who want Lip, or Ayumi, or the Sable Prince.

Drinking leaker Kool-Aid is not good, it's what led to the Ultimate thread going downhill. My review of the current situation as it stands:

Besides, Poe's Law applies quite liberally here; there's equal chances of them being legitimate leakers getting accurate info, or just pranking ****ers guessing right and being lucky.

Ashley's Haunted Mansion!

In other news, another one of those cute PdP animations was just uploaded.
I think this one is my favorite so far becuz it has my Ashley make a cameo in it~<3
She is so fukkin savage there in the end when she makes her exit! XD
This content creator is really good at capturing the traditional personalities of all the characters involved while also incorporating some meme culture in there as part of their traits as well for good measure. It's just a really good balance that is struck so the comedy is brilliant~

I know I’m going to sound stupid for just now realizing this, but one of Jigglypuff’s alts in smash 4 (and probably Ultimate) has her wearing a pink bow on her head. It looks a lot like Lip’s. It also is a FAIRY type so....:ultjigglypuff:

I can only imagine the funny reactions Lip would have seeing Jigglypuff having those similarities to her.

Nice, it has Goemon and Yae from the Ganbare Goemon/Mystical Ninja series in it. :)

That could be kind of stretching it, but then I wouldn't be surprised. Sakurai respects Panel de Pon so much he puts in so many cameos from that series: from Lip's Stick, to Kirby's stone, to Kirby's old beta flower copy ability that has him wearing Lip's ribbon. No other series gets that amounts of cameos I think, and with all these love you would think Sakurai would add her to Smash.

It's quite possible that Nintendo hasn't allowed him to do so. Maybe the ballot will show them how much people truly love her this time around and lift the embargo.

I'm no video game developer so I don't know much, but I would try to resist my higher up telling me what do to and who to add, it's my damn game I want to do things in my vision. If things go south Sakurai gets all the blame, when as you said Nintendo might have some influence in some decisions.
I don't think older game developers had limits; they had more freedom to do what they wanted.

Well I want it to happen. After Melee, and to some extent Brawl, proved that Japan-only series could be brought over just by showing up in Smash Bros., I honestly don't know why they haven't even tried to introduce Western players to Lip and friends.

Because...
Don’t you know?
Female gamers are a myth, and us tough guys are just into shooting stuff with AK47’s and tough crap like that.
Hey, clearly this is what Nintendo wants us to believe. (Still BS)

It's not like another puzzle game starring girls could see any success over here-- oh wait. Sure, one could make the argument that it piggybacked off of Tetris, but it did. And it didn't even need the help of Smash!

The real reason that we don't have another PdP right now is because IS is going on a Fire Emblem binge. After Three Houses launches, we might see something related to Panel de Pon. Because getting demoted to a minigame is pretty... um... unpleasant, I'd say, although maybe fans were just ecstatic to see the series again in any form.

Intelligent Systems is a zombie churning out soulless FE and Paper Mario sequels nowadays, so until everyone gets sick of both series a different developer would have to do it. Maybe Good-Feel? They usually do platformers, but they'd have the appealing visuals down pat.

Playing it safe is definitely the actual reason, regardless of the excuses (or lack thereof) for not doing anything.

I don't even know if modern IS developers know of Panel de Pon.

I doubt it. King K. Rool is proof it's not a matter of them hating the character or having an embargo on any character, but just a lack of interest. I'd imagine they'd have more issue with K. Rool than Lip. K. Rool only proves any character from Nintendo is fair game in Smash.

You just made me imagine a platformer starring Lip and the others with hand-drawn sprites and backgrounds, like what Good-Feel did for Wario Land Shake It. You also made me very sad that this will never be a thing, at least not in the near future. Thanks, I guess.

I’ll support Lip as a retro rep for Ultimate, I’d think she be a great character and the item Lip’s Stick has been in the past few games and would make sense as I was wondering where that item originated and looked it up as for being a retro rep, I also support Donkey Kong Junior, Balloon Fighter, Excitebiker, Mach Rider, Stanley the Bugman from Donkey Kong 3, and even Mr. You from Sky Skipper if that’s even remotely possible. But I hope she makes it in, in some shape or form.

Got to say, this guy probably might be most fun I've seen PdP-fan stuff get over these years. Maybe we won't see Lip in Ultimate, but at least we can enjoy these for years to come.

If Lip did miraculously make it into smash, what would your reaction be?
Me? I might tear up a bit. For 5 minutes.
But they’ll be manly tears.

I honestly don't know. I freaked out by K. Rool who I've wanted since Post-Melee.
Lip would be another cheer joy in form of one of my favourite series of Nintendo, the Panel De Pon formula of games.

I doubt it. King K. Rool is proof it's not a matter of them hating the character or having an embargo on any character, but just a lack of interest. I'd imagine they'd have more issue with K. Rool than Lip. K. Rool only proves any character from Nintendo is fair game in Smash.
But K. Rool didn't have to worry about a history of being removed from games, just disuse. While acknowledging Lip in some way doesn't necessarily mean that they need to talk about that history, more people will dig around and find out, and some of those people may ask about it. I'm not sure if that's a can of worms Nintendo is going to want opened, even if it is important to acknowledge that the perception of video games has changed a lot over the past two decades.

Granted, this is more of an issue for NoA than Nintendo Co. since they're the ones who originally made the call on the Panel de Pon (SNES) rebrand, and as a result Lip was never used in the West. Japan doesn't appear to mind since the game was on the the Super Famicom mini. However, the Smash team seems to be pretty aware of how characters have been received worldwide. K. Rool had clear worldwide appeal despite not being "relevant". Lip does not.

All that aside, if the Smash team asked Intelligent Systems about using Lip in any form, I highly doubt they would decline after everything that Smash has done for them. I think that's the least of her problems.

Oh, so NOW someone decides to make a leak with Lip in it.
(Not saying it’s automatically true because it mentions her, but it’s about time SOMEONE acknowledged her as a possible contender for a retro rep.)

I'd probably react in the same way as those guys in reaction videos: over the top screaming. Maybe.
I will be very happy and to celebrate replay PdP

1 11th Granted, that's true. However, King K. Rool DID get replaced in his own series with Tiki Tong and more outright with Lord Fredrik and it was obvious that K. Rool and the Kremlings were being pushed aside and subtly replaced and by Tropical Freeze, people were clamoring their return. If that rumor about Hyle's source mentioning NoA's reaction about K. Rool in the ballot is true, they had every intention to keep him in the past and it was only because of the fans that he returned. Otherwise, he would have never appeared in Ultimate and potentially in the next Donkey Kong title. If you really want Lip to return, make your voice heard. They ARE listening.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but:

There was a problem fetching the tweet

Keep in mind there are more ways to represent a franchise than just playable representation. Balloon Fight, Pilotwings, and Nintendogs all have stages based on them, but no playable character to go along with them. Even simply receiving a stage would boost a lot of exposure for the original cast and setting for Panel de Pon, not to mention all of the excellent music tracks that we would receive. Assist Trophy is another way for Lip and the original cast for Panel de Pon to gain exposure. Even simply additional music tracks are a good thing.

Even still, Sakurai has been known to throw his own rules or opinions out the window when the situation arises. He said third-party characters needed a proper appearance on Nintendo consoles to make a guest appearance in Smash Bros. and yet we got Cloud, he said the Villager would not work as a playable character because Animal Crossing is a pacifist series yet he was the first character announced for Smash 4, and finally he said Ridley was too big for Smash Bros. and being playable was not a suitable role for him, only to do a 180 a year later.

That being said, I do not think Lip is happening as a playable character on the base roster (of which per Sakurai there are only a few fighters left) or as DLC (of which there still would be very fierce competition). There are still things for Panel de Pon fans to look forward to with Ultimate, namely what additional content the series will receive in comparison to Smash 4. Smash 4 was the first game in the series where the Panel de Pon series did not gain any additional content (we even lost some with the loss of stickers). So its going to be interesting to see if the series receives any new remixes, or if there is an Assist Trophy of Lip or any other Panel de Pon character, or possibly even a stage. There are still possibilities to be interested in and look forward to, even without decent prospects for Lip as a character.

Meh...
I quit taking Sakurai’s words as concrete back when Cloud joined smash. That action alone broke so many floodgates that characters like Sora, Crash, and (apparently) Steve (ugh) are now applicable for the game. Compared to the some of the other choices, Lip is a much more tame choice. Yes, her game has not been released outside of japan, but most westerners still know Tetris Attack, which was a reskin of Panel de Pon. So people at least will have some connection there. Mother 3 wasn’t released in the West at all, not even with a different coat of paint. So, I don’t think that is a big concern to Sakurai. Not saying Lip is 100% confirmed, but she still does have a shot, and she would honestly be one of the better choices for a retro rep imo for Ultimate. (Which I do hope we have, the characters rumored like Steve make me wince a bit inside.)

Has SG given a source for that claim? It’s really out of nowhere, and unless it’s in the context of a new interview it’s probably untrue.

So its going to be interesting to see if the series receives any new remixes, or if there is an Assist Trophy of Lip or any other Panel de Pon character, or possibly even a stage. There are still possibilities to be interested in and look forward to, even without decent prospects for Lip as a character.

Yeah that's what I've been saying, we got to get our voice out there. With the small amount of Lip supporters, we really have a ton of work to do.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news but:

There was a problem fetching the tweet
Where's the source for this?
Not that I really don't believe it; characters not being in Smash due to obscurity outside of Japan is nothing new (outside of Marth and Roy) and I'm sick of Sakurai saying this. It's like he's unaware Fire Emblem got big due to them appearing in Smash. Smash is already a big enough character no need to keep adding big names to the roster.
