You have to remember, we base it off more than solely tourney results. Also I don't think we're looking at anything before Hobo 12 if I'm not mistaken.

you look at the history of the players. t-rex/3000 did great at first but not anymore. not just hobo12 and up. history tell you alot.

That's what the past PR's are for. To show who our best players were at that time.

History tells you alot about the past. We're concerned with the present and future.

Sudai wins 3000 tournaments. Sudai gets second at the next 500 and PersonA gets first at all 500.

Although Sudai won 3000 tournaments, PersonA obviously deserves to be higher on the list than Sudai.

I'm not 100% sure on how you guys determine your PR, but I saw points..so assume Sudai got points for all 3000 wins and PersonA got points for their 500 wins. Sudai would be above PersonA when he obviously shouldn't be.

Just my $0.02. Feel free to ignore me because I really don't know how your point system works.

my system would actually include commons sense, players who arent biased, and HISTORY.

not, "omg!!! player XYZ just got 2nd place at ABC, lets move him up"

2. Infinity - MK (won centex, won hobo 13, 3rd at fs5, consistent)
3. Dojo - MK (won SHDL, 3rd at hobo 10, won oh snap, is consistent)
4. Ultimate Razer - Snake/Sheep (4th at hobo 12, 5th at hobo 13, 2nd at tomball, 2nd at fs5)
5. Fliphop - Diddy (won hobo 12 and tomball, consistent)
6. Melee1 - IC (consistently places high)
7. D4bA - CP (2nd at hobo 10, consistently places high)
8. Sethlon - Falco (consistently places high)
9. T-Rex (has won many past hobos, placed high at ohsnap)
10. Gnes - Diddy/Kirby (consistently places high) (this guy misses too many **** tournies )


assuming roy R, stiltz, lee harris quit.

I would say that winning Oh Snap for Dojo is a much bigger deal than DMG placing well all the time. DMG is good, but how many tournaments has he placed first in?

I thought winning at least one entire tournament was needed.

I consider Dojo to be the best right now (despite FS5 results), then Infinity or Razer.

While we know who deserves to be on the list, it's a matter of who goes where.

@ Xyro and the RGV dude: if the players you want on the list deserve to be on it then they will be. If they don't deserve to be on it then they won't be. The players at the top of the list are consistantly travelling to and placing well at tournaments while several of the older players have stopped performing as well as they used to. If those players want to be on the power rankings then it's in their best interest to travel more often and place well more often.

Why is there so much fighting about the power rankings? Honestly, if these were updated every few weeks, or after any major tournament in TX, I think there would be less problem with the rankings being up-to-date, accurate, and fair.

Has smashboards not developed a good system for this yet? We've been around a while.

Having only one person make a decision about something doesn't sound like a good decision process. Not all of us are at all of the tournaments, and even when we are, not all of us are able to watch everyone's matches.

Sports power rankings are generally done in a weekly fashion, and a new list probably should be put out after every big tournament at the very least.

People are too lazy though, which is mostly why I'm against PR's in general. Smash just doesn't have the infrastructure.

Weekly is way too often, things in Smash don't change anywhere near that fast. Monthly is more reasonable, it gives people time to adapt and allows time for new players to emerge. Besides, major tournaments are roughly once a month anyway.

This list changes, because people change, circumstances change, and the tournament scene changes. There's no way to get a completely accurate list, especially with how much things could change in 3 months, a year, or even more from now.
