Photobucket ftw x.xwhere do you find those pics?
But that more so matters when discussing canon from gameplay.well those aspects are legit, but he was going off the actual descriptions, which are all B-S
I still don't see that as a justified reason though as we consider gameplay, canon and realism which all create contradictions.Im just stating it as a general rule if you are gonna use descriptions...BECAUSE of things like charizard melting boulders/etc
Nice douchey smartass attempt but apply some logic to it.1) i stopped reading after you used Pika's pokedex entry as a source.
I already explained this in the post seeing as you didn't get it I'm going to have to take you through it in an extremely slow and patronising way.2) What the hell is an electricity sac? Elecrtic eels use special MUSCLES that are used to create a charge, much like a battery, along it's body, and then they dispell it.
It wouldn't arc through the Air Pikachu's electric shock would be more like an electric shield it wouldn't extend very far around Pikachu at all. I have already mentioned this. It however would have a little more range then "On Touch"3) The mucus could work, but it would never arc through the air.
Thank you.Some not stupid stuff
It's a long read, but this is my final attempt to disprove your idea. If you have a rebuttal just put it in my profile since JOE! wants to move on from here.Nice douchey smartass attempt but apply some logic to it.
You should really learn not to take things so personal. Just because we don't agree with your reasoning doesn't justify name-calling. And if you read the posts he made after that one, he justified why it's not too credible outside of the actual size of the pokemon. There are so many things that the pokedex information says that wouldn't work in real life. Just to run it down to you:
http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Jigglypuff_(Pokémon)#Pok.C3.A9dex_entries_2
But Jigglypuff was proven not to have any lungs therefore it cannot inflate itself nor sing.
http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Charizard_(Pokémon)#Pok.C3.A9dex_entries_2
But we disproved Charizard having the ability to shoot flame from its mouth and not harm itself. We also disproved him actually having the ability to fly.
You should try to understand where we're coming from rather than rebuttal obnoxiously.
Q.Now why would I base it off the description of Pikachu?
A. To give somewhere to start from...
Pikachu uses electricity is not enough of a basis. When discussing the logical feasability of such a thing happening there are literally Infinite ways we could go about this.
This is only true in theory. While I agree saying Pika uses electricity isn't enough of a basis, there are not too many ways to go about it logically. For example, we accepted that Yoshi and Sonic could both be bipedal like they appear in their game. But how? How when Yoshi's head is as big as his entire body and having the scarcity of neck that he has? Or how whan Sonic also has a head full of spines that completely make up over half his body and his limbs are so thin with little neck to support it? They both cannot be explained logically so they are accepted as gameplay mechanics only.
It could have large quantities of Iron in it's teeth and use them as electrodes. It could use it's body as a defacto lightning rod and pull thunder from the sky. It could transmit electricity through the ground and kill anything standing on it. It could have rubbery mitochondria rich skin surrounded by a layer of mucus and pulse energy through it's body causing it to vibrate at such an alarming rate your eyes wouldn't be able to focus on it making it invisible. I could go on, all of these things are theoretically possible in an animal.
This is what I meant. I could say Yoshi has a very light head and a strong neck but no evidence supports it. I could say Yoshi could throw and lay eggs, breathe fire, fly and stomp mini-quakes, but that doesn't happen in RL. Sonic could have the ability to tuck his spines on his head and extend the ones on his back to balance himself, but that isn't possible for any hedgehog. I could say Sonic could harness a sword, curl and roll into a ball at high speeds, and become invincible, but in RL none of these things are possible. Reality is the ultimate nerf for some characters and traits of characters and Pikachu would fall under here if you were to justify his electricity in this manner. Again, I know you were saying all of these as an example to get your point across, but just take it from me; you need to prove a lot of stuff before you make that claim.
If we start with no basis this is no longer even a discussion on a Pikachu. It is just "An electric thing" and possibly not even that. To make this thread work you start with what the game portrays then you challenge and question these things to see if they would actually work. With only a single indication as to how Pikachu uses electricity I began with that as the theory of how a creature could generate electricity.
OP says all of this. We recognize that. We also realize what is feasible in RL and what isn't. Mice exist in RL, but the electricity part doesn't. So you should start from the mice and seek to apply how one could use it in real life.
I begin with the simple basis that Pikachu uses "Electric sacs that generate electricity when disturbed" if you have a problem with that because "It's just what the game says" then I say to you that logically Pikachu could if not limited in any way as to how his electricity works theoretically contain enough force and power to destroy the sun and should win all matchups.
Or we could go with sacs.
Read #4. Bulbapedia is more credible than just the pokedex. This also proves that the source of Pika's power is from inside him. Also note that it indirectly proves Pika has a finite amount of power and cannot control his body and how it produces electricity. To put it in a metaphorical sense it's like the hair on our head. All it is is dead skin cells and we cannot control it from growing, just like Pika's electricity. But we can control how much we can tolerate (hair cut), like Pika using it's tail to prevent short circuiting.1. Everything REL said.2. Pika is only 1'04" and 13.2 lbs. For his size alone him creating a current that is strong enough to kill~desuDiddyis unrealistic.Diddy is also biger than Pika and has what it takes to kill him with a Full Nelson.
3. Pika doesn't have the body parts needed to create and manage electricity as well as the Pokemon series suggests. He also seems rather obese to be a rat based pokemon. Can he even be as agile as an ordinary rat due to his front paws? His hind legs seem big enough but this agility thing isn't so clear.
4. http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Pikachu_(Pokémon)#Special_abilities
According to this, Pika has to pinch his cheeks to emit electricity. He also has to keep his tail grounded periodically to keep the buildup of electricity from short circuiting. And his cheeks have glands that secrete the electricity. Now, all of that means that-Pika's cheeks are like batteries.
I'm not going to use something from the description that doesn't make sense or work. But anything from the game that would work is assumed to be the case. I'm sure if we all discussed it for ages we might be able to come up with some way that Pikachu could theoretically shoot lasers out of his eyes but we won't because the game says Pikachu is an electric pokemon so we either go with "This is correct because..." or "This is wrong because..." or maybe inr are cases "This is wrong because...BUT if he...instead of...he could still produce the same end result so maybe that should be what he does" and not just whatever we feel like. You can't apply the no game descriptions rule without a massive double standard being created.
This was Rd. 4.5 lol. One side felt as though they provided enough proof and the other side dismissed it and nothing really became of it. But anyway, there really isn't a double standard in this scenario. The standard is real life. What translates from the game into real life is what we use (and try to in a non-biased format). That is our standard. Now, for a few characters, it worked out. Others weren't so lucky; look at the retirees. Pika's powers are under this category until someone proves them to be real.
I already explained this in the post seeing as you didn't get it I'm going to have to take you through it in an extremely slow and patronising (patronizing) way.
We began with electricity sacs that "generate electricity when disturbed" What does this mean? Well it means that Pikachu first of all does not constantly generate electricity.
This suggests that the electricity produced is static in nature, produced by movement rather than any other method.
I addressed why this isn't plausible already (bolded part). So so far, my opinion is contradicting yours. I have a link justifying my idea, and you have the pokedex data to justify yours.
Here is where the theory begins...I guess that inside these sacs are a vast number of rigid protrusions which rub against one another if the sac is stimulated, this motion produces a build up of static electricity.
Here is where the OMG No Power factor comes in.
You'd be right in thinking that staic electricity doesn't really make noticable sparks or hurt particularly much but, if there were a vast multitude of these sacs, positioned throughout Pikachu's skeletal muscle then a large charge could be generated.
These sacs can be tiny, teeny weeny. He easily has enough room in his body to be packing enough to generate killing power in his Electricity.
I'm not talking about Electric eels though am I?
Most of this had me . Static electricity can be found in a few ways. The only two I can think of tht would apply here would be by contact and by charge. If we go with the first one, then what you're saying is that his cheeks do this regardless. But what if Pika is chewing? He emits electricity while chewing? How about talking? Also, this kind of electricity is like clothes in a dryer. They cling to each other and cause static sometimes. But this entails the trade off of electrons to do so and requires different types of elements present. His cheeks would all contain the same elements so this couldn't happen. Besides, if this was so then we could shock ourselves by snapping our fingers, clapping our hands, ect.
Now if you want to base this theory off of charge, then you also have another problem. What is the conductor in his cheeks? He has no conductor in his cheek at all. So there is no way to get a charge in doing so, and nothing is produced. The only way this could happen is with an electrolyte. And with that I quote myself again and Beren:
http://www.smashboards.com/showpost.php?p=8627677&postcount=11144Nova9000 said:Entertaining the idea, this would mean Pika would have a finite amount of electricity. Due to his size, we can imagine that is not very much. ATP is constantly breaking down and being converted into energy to create heat which becomes electricity when pressure is put upon his cheeks. Going along with that, Pika would have to produce a lot more energy than a normal rat would just to keep up to par ATP wise. And as a rule of thumb on batteries, the available capacity is dependent on the rate of discharge. In other words, Pika creating electricity would require a nice bit of juice, resulting in a quick loss of power in its cheeks from creating a spark.
And take a look at rechargable batteries. They lose their power rather quickly and degenerate over time. Since Pika is an evolved form of Pichu, it is possible for those cheeks to lose the capacity to hold a charge. This would explain why Pichu can give out higher unintentional charges of electricity in the Pokemon series and in Melee. To prevent that, they would have to reside in colder places. Rodents don't like the cold, so that seems like a no go. Also, since ions are being distributed and not and liquid, and the cheeks are part of the bloodstream, guess what the electrolytes in Pika's blood are going to do? Beren already referred to this before but any of the electrolytes can alter the charge (sodium, potassium, calcium, ect.) and cause problems for Pika (short circuit?) And we need those nutrients to survive, so they will always be in its bloodstream. In short, the battery idea isn't plausible due to the lack of capacity, lack of space in its body, and the blood interfreing with its cheeks.
If all of this happens then Pika fries itself. Point blank.
It wouldn't arc through the Air Pikachu's electric shock would be more like an electric shield it wouldn't extend very far around Pikachu at all. I have already mentioned this. It however would have a little more range then "On Touch"
@Nova I didn't bother quoting and directly responding to your post because some of them I had already answered before you made it 1 or perhaps 2 of them were answered by Guest and the rest were simply explained within this post without actually referencing you.
Actually, I have more questions that you have to answer now.
Thank you.
No not infinite that was merely a turn of phrase. But there are far far more then we could ever discuss in this thread.also Xiao, NO, THERE ARE NOT INFINITE POSSIBILITIES TO THE WAY PIKA COULD BIOLOGICALLY USE ELECTRICITY!
You said he coudl have IRON TEETH TO CONDUCT IT?! seriously, what the hell?!
I shouldnt have to explain what's wrong with that, but first off he likley wouldnt be able to feed as the iron teeth interfere with chewing, second off, if they did work as electrical conductors he would likley shock himself to death. it'd be the same scene as when a mouse chews through a power-cable.
ALL RIGHT!
1. The electricity-
So we went over the ATP and Hydrolysis correct?
Now to expand on it.
The break down of ATP leaves ADP+Energy
That energy is used for bodily processes
Pikachu's electricity, being as a method of life and survival is a bodily process, as such the energy from the breakdown of ATP may be used for the energy for electricity.
Seeing as how throughout the body the building up and breaking down of ATP is always taking place, the availability of the electricity is taken care of. Space is not a question either, atoms are minuscule and yet powerful. You could fit a mole of atoms on the tip of a pin needle., think of how many would go in the cheek, comprising energy.
2. Discharge-
Rubber is a natural insulator
Beings have abundant amounts of carbon and hydrodgen in their bodies and with the topic of specialization in organisms rubber is plausibly formed is commonly formed. This natural insulator may protect Pika from shock in the storage and allow for an effective and powerful shock due to the properties of the type of dielectric that Rubber is. With this, Pika can still deliver a shock with plenty of strength and prevent shock/loss to itself. Also 500v isn't too bad.
Now for the easy part.
I all ready proved against myself that static is a mute point
Cheeks are away from many vital organs the rubber, with the type of dielectric it is protects the few close organs.
Rate of Discharge- An eel does not release electricity concentrated at one spot, due to this, few electrons flow through any one area at any given time, therefore the Amperage is low. An eel has no need for a concentrated burst therefore, it's not built that way.
Pika's delivery system is different in that it IS concentrated, more electrons moving through a given spot at one time, therefore more amperage. Of course rubber, working against Pika at this point, lowers the amperage some, but not by too much, more than likely two-three amperes. (a drop of 1000 or 1500w). Still as such, it's an killing shock. (2000 or 1500w) which brings me to another point, it's not 2000v it's 2000w
if it was like 3000v then that's saying 3000v x 4amp= 12000w (and that's ridiculous)
>___> I just saved you from overkill
And you're ignoring an evolutionary development that if something adapts to use of electricity as like pika, it must develop effective means to produce and store. That was the main thing covered in the small evolutionary spiel Sam and I had earlier in this MU.
@low kick- pika can jump. jump to cheek ****...
@throwing stuff- falls under same category as orange grenades...terrorist attack or GTFO.
@Guitar- Pika has surfboard get at him....
will edit as I review...
Jasmine support lol
ATP construction and destruction happens throughout the body,
Although it may produce small amounts, so many of these reactions occur that it all adds...up and
A mole is a lot- Don't know where in the world you think it isn't, that's basic chemistry.
got some, didn't like it and returned it...
EDIT: Oh and the energy produced from the ATP is what's used...
These are some of the big ones, make note that as I've looked at the dielectric table again, I've changed to C5H8 (Rubber) this has affected the values some...but not by a margin to take it out of kill range. You're overexaggerating Pika's electricity AGAIN....
it's 500v times at 6 amperes to 3000w and we said that the natural insulator may cut it down to 4 amps being now at 2000w
even taking what beren just said could be higher, but I won't go there...yet...
volts and watts are not the same, stop confusing them...
it's only 500volts.
I'll cover more tomorrow...it's a school night...>___>
watts and voltage are not the same.
Then elaborate then. What can Lucas do?None of you guys even know what Lucas is capable of.
I told you...These are some of the big ones, make note that as I've looked at the dielectric table again, I've changed to C5H8 (Rubber) this has affected the values some...but not by a margin to take it out of kill range.
There you go Nova...
well, did you read the OP at all? What!?!

It would definately not be impossible to attain but as with anything concerning a Theory of aproposed evolution path whether it is too unlikely to attain is entirely a subjective matter with no rhyme or reason able to given to the answer.@Xiao's post:
everything you said is correct, but the amounts of the things you mentioned needed for the effectes to work/be significant would be impossible for pika to attain within himself for the elec to work in those ways
