I think there are plenty of fighters that could garner this reaction. Borderlands, Mass Effect, League of Legends, NieR, Fate, Starcraft... Quake, I guess, though I think the shooter rep should be Slayer. Lots of good options.

Just, no GTA or Pyramid Head this time please

How about a variant character like ZSS or Dr. Mario? Maybe a fully unique Super Sonic if Sega content is on the table? Charmander or Blastoise? A group of Pikmin as a seperate fighter?

Alternatively, how about an edutainment character like Pyjama Sam or Carmen Sandeigo? That would absolutely shake things up

A driverless vehicle or inanimate object maybe? a car (probably Need for Speed, but maybe Cruisn' if you want to steer closer to Nintendo) and Tetromino come to mind

I do think a car would still count as a "Joker/Sephiroth/Steve" style pick, a character most people could agree on the deservedness regardless of which series we choose to represent, but nobody could really expect.

Would be fun to just submit the idea of a car and then vote on what driving series it should represent.

Just no bipedal Fighters Megamix stuff, that'd get me to opt out from submitting a car immediately.

We have tons of content from Sonic the Hedgehog plus a stage already. No reason to go the “take a character and rework it” when they already have tons of content representing those series. And certainly no to the idea of a mass of Pikmin. Olimar/Alph has pikmin. That’s far more than enough. [/QUOTE]

Alright, finally got to sit down to listen out potential characters I could see for this dlc:

1. Jonesy (Fortnite)
2. Frisk (Undertale)
3. Saber (Fate)
4. Car (Rocket League)
5. Spyro (Spyro)
6. Anhri (League of Legends)
7. Sims (The Sims)
8. 2B (NeiR)
9. Kerrigan (Star Craft)
10. Doomslayer (Doom)
11. Lu Bu (Dynasty Warriors)
12. Asuka (Senran Kagura)
13. Pilot (No Man’s Sky)
14. Freddy Fazbear
And probably one of the best ideas…

15. Traveler (Genshin Impact) <- the game isn’t on the Switch yet hit it’s obviously been released on other systems. They developers still say it’s going to be on the Switch. I will let the thread decide if GI is permissible.

All of these characters are surprising in their own way with some bringing hype while some bringing “WTF” factors.

I think Genshin Impact is fine, it was never formely cancelled so there is still the hope to see it in Switch ad since technically this doesn't happen in this proper year but in an unknown future in that future GI would already be in.

I LOVE Dante. He's easily my most wanted. I want him in a lot. But I don't think anyone would call him a surprise. We have multiple capcom reps and he was already a mii costume last game.

So was Doom Slayer.

I still don't get why are you against a GTA character that much considering they don't have nothing that could make them a bad pick
Because it's inappropriate material. GTA is literally all about reveling in debauchery. That's the whole point of the series. Besides that, we already have people with the same kind of weaponry a GTA character would use. There's nothing unique that they can do that's appropriate. Huffing crack for a buff? Screaming obscenities'? All inappropriate, and all you're left with is generic pistols and stuff that Jill and Leon already do. Not to mention unless you're loading up on gang violence and prostitutes in the background, your GTA stage is just "generic city."

Oh, and not even mentioning that CJ and Niko Bellic, the two most recognizable options, can be seen as harmful stereotypes.

Oh ****...
First, a GTA character could bring more than a ****ing generic gun, they could bring rocket launchers, machetes, gasoline, jetpacks or tanks, not to mention their fisical attacks or their use of other elements like a bike similar to wario's
Secondly, I don't think a GTA stages will be a generic city, yeah the strip clubs will have to be removed but the crime? Dude we got Kirby holding a gun you think a bunch of low poly mfs holding 9s will be a reason to not include a character?????
Finally the steriotype argument, sounds like you 100% never touched GTA, for me seems like you are saying that CJ is a steriotype cuz he's black lmao, in San Andreas despite being a game with big Gang Activity themes Ryder or Big Smoke can be seen as more offensive specialy Ryder which is based on Eazy-E a dude that died from hiv, finally Niko, this is ridiculous, my man Niko isn't a steriotype he's just has a war backstory, just cuz he's russian and was a war backstoty you think he is a steriotype, dude the character has a lot more than being a russian that was involved in war.

We already have characters using a hefty majority of those weapons. What would they bring that's NEW?

And yes, normal ass humans holding guns is absolutely a reason not to include them because that's incredibly inappropriate for the fun silly kids party game. Bayonetta gets away with it because her guns fire magic bullets, and Joker's gun is canonically an airsoft gun. But dudes shooting each other with the real deal is completely inappropriate. Even then how does crime change it from still looking like a generic city?

I'm not saying I see either of them as one, but from the outside looking in they certainly come off as one. Did you not read the part about how GTA solely exists to revel in debauchery? You cannot pretend that's not what it is. If CJ's going around smuggling drugs, hiring hookers, and killing people, all of which are things you do in San Andreas, then he can be misconstrued as a harmful stereotype because that's how cops in our day and age tend to see people of color, especially poor ones. Not to mention the gratuitous amount of swearing they do.

For the record, I have played GTA. I don't like GTA because it's a bunch of needless, senseless violence without a purpose. You aren't a good guy in GTA. If you were, you'd be trying to avoid that stuff. GTA is controversial, but unlike Mortal Kombat, where you can reasonably remove the more controversial parts, GTA is all about the controversial parts. Removing that would be disingenuous to the franchise we're supposed to be paying homage too. GTA isn't GTA without hookers, drugs, and gratuitous violence. There's no point in including a character from it in our game which is supposed to be kid-friendly.

Yeah dude I'm sure there's at least 97 characters hat can put gasoline on the floor then shoot the gasoline and create a fire zone.

Secondly, the Joker gun looks like a normal gun, there's no reason for that to be a problem when there's reallystic looking guns, no one will be ******** about CJ having guns because their real and not be ******** about joker because in the persona wiki says the ****ing gun is airsoft

Thirdly, yes I read it but then give a ****ing backstory to why Mario is beating up Mega Man for no ****ing reason, dude you're talking like the black man is the only one snorting cocaine and wasting money on sluts

Fourthly, GTA is more than innapropiate actions, but we ain't talking about GTA itself, also the "Smash is kid friendly omg" bull**** dissapears when you have bayonetta almost showing her body and representation from Metal Gear, Persona or Doom.

Finally, sorry for swearing but I just can't help but cuss when I see things like this

I'm not saying he is, I'm saying that real-world controversies and crisis still have an effect on this kind of thing. Mortal Kombat is the reason the ESRB exists in the first place. Bayonetta doesn't "almost show her body", they cover up far more than they do in her home games.

We don't need an answer as to why the two kid-friendly characters are fighting, but we would if all of a sudden realistic, gun-toting man of color shows up and starts spraying them with realistic bullets. You're not invalidating the point that this would cause an uproar, all you're doing is saying that it doesn't bother you specifically. But just as Pyramid Head is seen assaulting mannequins in a perverted manner, which makes plenty of people here uncomfortable, and thus he shouldn't be given a spot next to Mario and Kirby, CJ is exactly the same.

As for Snake? Hell, there's a reason he doesn't use guns and resorts to explosive stuff. Sakurai iirc has even gone on record saying that they were specifically told they couldn't use realistic guns before because of CERO - the Japanese equivalent to the ESRB - and once again, Jill, Leon, and Lara already use the kinds of weapons you'd attach to a GTA rep. All the M-rated series had to have their content specifically approved to be featured in the way they are - Joker's gun even sounds like an airsoft one when firing - so no, you cannot get away with this kind of stuff.

We should strive to balance out the crazy fantasy we have here with at least some semblance of realism. We've straddled the line enough as is.

Hi everyone! Thank you for your submissions! Seeing as how we had a number of them, I will be closing the submissions for the online tournament. I will post the voting link later along with our

I wanted to premnaturely end this submission round as our next job will be pretaining to our second DLC phase for Season 3. The spots ar ebeing taken up gradually! Here is our current DLC Line up. Green is DLC Season 1, Blue is DLC Season 2, and Yellow is DLC Season 3. Parathesis means the ordering hasn't been decided yet.

#1: Zangreus
#2: Phoenix Wright
#3: Sakura
#4: Agumon

#5: Sol Badguy
#6: Lara Croft
#7: Lloyd Irving
#8: Geno
#9: Ratchet and Clank

(#10) Nightmare
(#11): ?

So, we will not be starting a submission round yet. Instead, we will be doing a discussion round. This means that even if yuo submit a character, I won't accepting it UNTIL the submission round. This time is to gather ideas, discuss potential ideas, and collorbotrate with one anither. The reason why I am doing this discussion round is...

Discussion Round: Surprise Character

Our next submission is for a character who would be, more or less, a surprise addition to the roster. Now, that being said, we aren't looking for the Piranha Plant variety of surprisewhere people were literally like "WTF?!" We are looking to include more so of the Joker, Steve, and Sephiroth variety. A character that would surprise everyone, turn heads, and make noise just based on how "out of the box" their inclusion would be. Based on discussion though, I may tweak our final requirements so please keep that in mind. We are looking for a surprise that would be considered "good" by the majority of consumers.

That being said, once we get into submissions, we will be utilizing the following requirements for sure:

  • Character must have been/be on a Nintendo console
  • Character most be relatively popular within the gaming industry.
My thinking for a surprise character is one thats both popular

Here's what a surprise character looks like to me

1. Someone outside the speculation scene on very regularly not talked about or considered eliminated. They dont have to be a complete left field pick but they should be pulling 40% or higher in a game of RTC

2. Someone or a series with a legacy.

3. Someone who appeals to the gaming community as a whole or large part. Like it or not smash have evolved past being just for Nintendo fans. Regional picks, like a character who only appeals to the USA or Japan, or a character who nobody knows outside a certain circle are not picks id make here

Wasn’t San Andreas about defeating the rival gang that killed CJ’s mom? I haven’t played it, but how would hookers, thievery, or drugs tie into that? It really seems like your typical revenge story to me. Just with gangs and whatnot. Though, please correct me if I’m wrong.

CJ's going around smuggling drugs, hiring hookers, and killing people, all of which are things you do in San Andreas
Gta san andreas has messages against drug trafficking, CJ specifically denounced it and there are a couple missions in the game where you stop them.

You can’t just make up things and say them to make your point and expect no one will criticize you for it

Okay I’m sorry for remaining on this topic for so long but I was looking back and I actually just want to ask why the hell would you phrase this like this? Like why would you need to mention that he’s black? And how is this in any way different from other realistic characters?

Probably shooting myself in the feet but I really want to see Saber. Especially since consdering that the "include things from other franchises of the company" only works in shared universes, the Nasuverse is probably one of the most vast fictional universes outside there and in terms of content there is always the music. that. its. awesome.

Thought, if you ask me, I think an even better inclusion would be Arcueid, since she comes from the first work of Type-Moon or even Aoko who comes from THE ACTUAL first work of Type-Moon, but considering that Fate completely overshadows any of their other series..., TM is working to give those series more spotlight lately but I know very whell that it would never be that recognizable like Fate...

I'm probably gonna submit the Bubster.

EDIT: Also, Capybara Gaming Capybara Gaming - as someone who has been probably the biggest anti-Pyramid Head advocate on this thread, I don't appreciate being used as a weapon against CJ, a character I am all for and actively support if anything for his historical significance.

When it’s one of us black people spraying bullets, it’s a lot worse because it resembles a stereotype surrounding us that a lot of people often act on, including cops and others. I see Gryff’s point when the hypothetical first black character (I think) in this game would be that exact stereotype. It only further enforces it. Then again, anyone stupid enough to use that stereotype to generalize us has a problem of their own that they need to fix.

I don’t think so… Dark skin is just a common Gerudo feature.
Plus, the Gerudo were based on Amazons and Arabians.

This was exactly my point in regards to the stereotyping. It's a stupid thing to generalize people of color like that, absolutely, but it is exactly what happens, especially in this country and especially in my state. It'd sad but true that people are like that.

Hey Gryff (and also Venus), I actually have a solution. I think that if you counter a stereotype with something that defies it, the whole generalization will fall apart because it shows another side that you have to take into consideration. If we were to do CJ, I feel that adding in another POC would be the perfect solution to the stereotyping issue. What would you guys think of this idea?

All things considered CJ potentially perpetuating the stereotype was only a portion of my issues regarding a GTA character. A different POC tho from an entirely different game I'd be more than fine with.

What about just adding a white GTA character? I believe Trevor is Canadian, right?
That isn’t a solution. It’s a problem that specifically applies to black people. Whites can be seen as a lot of things, so adding in a white criminal doesn’t change anything. Black people will still be stereotyped in the exact same way they did before.

Okay, so it’s more than that… Gotcha. I won’t push any further, then. Though, was my solution good, at least?
