By the way, can you do anything with the powerups that get stored in the engine room?

I spent a good 20 minutes trying just to realize it's an achievement type deal. Did anyone actually buy the guidebook? Not that Mario isn't hard, but it's not the cryptic type deal. A guidebook to Zelda makes sense, but Mario? >_>

Mario's difficulty has never been in figuring out puzzles, but doing them, which a guide wouldn't help much at.

I'm a bit of a perfectionist, so I like guide books. When it comes to skill games like Mario, where missables don't exist, I never, ever, ever buy a guidebook.

When it comes to a game (rpg usually) where there are "one time only items" I'll buy the guide. FF games are the best example I can give. I'll figure out what to do on my own, but I'll read to get the rare stuff.

When it comes to things like Zelda, I use guides. Usually the games skill is hard enough to where the added confusion of being lost overwhelms me.

Ideally on Zelda though I look up "where" to go and get a general idea and figure out the rest on my own. I'll look up what rooms to go too, but I'll complete them/get items on my skills. So I guess I'm mixed on guides...

You know, after playing this, yes I believe that it deserves the 10/10 it got from ign, but it seems... too similar to Galaxy 1. I mean, I got bored of it pretty easy because due to the fact that it's just too similar to Galaxy 1. Asides from the Throwback Galaxy and the Hightail Falls galaxy, none of them seem to make me go "ZOMG WTF IS THIS BEAUTIFUL PLACE HAXXXXXXXXXXX"

You know what I mean. I mean SMG2 seems like just another sequel to me now...

Anybody else feeling this?

It is another sequel. What did you expect? All of the previews and trailers played upon this aspect. Galaxy 1 was almost perfect, why would they want to rock the cradle and mess up a perfect formula?

I didn't play Galaxy 1 so I'm having a ball. I should get Galaxy 1, I've wanted to get it for a while now..but it's still 50 dollars. ~.~

It's worth it, still. Plus, you actually get to use an ice flower. I don't think it comes back in SMG2.

On a side note, Luigi's backwards somersault and long jump are just amazing.

Ice Mario didn't really do much in Galaxy, but I do like Ice Mario's outfit. Now you made me miss Flying Mario, lol. I hope they bring back the Red Star and make more use of Flying Mario in the next Mario game.

You don't have to tell me twice, I was thinking about cheating because I got the last star, but my power went out, lol. But that would had thrown away my pride as a Mario fan if I did that, so I tried again (30 attempts later), and got the star.

Got all 242 stars. Last star is going to make you mad. :p
Ditto. Complete ditto.
I didn't struggle so much through the Grandmaster Galaxy the first time, but the perfect run mission makes both Luigi's purple Coin missions seem like another trek through bomb-omb battlefield; no danger whatsoever.

I beat the game with all 242 stars by the Wednesday after it came out. It's an amazing game with the amount of variety you get (and the difficulty certainly is higher. Please see above spoiler and the new Luigi's Purple coin mission). My only complaint is that the galaxies themselves seemed under-developed. I mean, certainly each world is a lot more developed than in SMG1, but I wanted to see some more power stars in quite a few areas. That's how great a lot of the levels were; each level leaves you dying for more even after getting only one star.

What are everyone's favorite levels in the game? I'd list mine out, but it would take a while.

Long time no see dude. Still reppin' your sig =D.

I'm only halfway through World 5 (I'm playing OoT and Pokemon as well), but so far I really like the Super Mario Sunshine level. The nostalgia was amazing, I just wished FLUDD was there =[

I just thought I'd stop in. Had nothing better to do. And I see that. :p

The sunshine level is cool. Not much to do in it (though the purple coin mission is a riot to play), but it's a nice and relaxing change of pace. And seeing the Piantas that would throw you in the second level just made me say "I'm a Chuckster."

It's hard to narrow down to a favorite level. Tall Trunk, Cloudy Court, Hightail Falls, Puzzle Plank, Space Storm, Slipsand, Freezeflame (or whatever it's called this time around), Slimy Spring, the fire level in world 6, Boulder Bowl, Sweet Mystery, Rainbow Roll, they are all so good.

I'll tell you which ones aggravated me. The ones where the spin motion flips platforms. I subconsciously use that to jump higher so much it got me killed over and over. The world 2 (or 1) one with the purple coins drove me insane T_T.

I love all the powerups they put in this game, you can tell they went all out. I'm not a diehard Mario fan, actually I'd say Zelda/FF/Metroid/Pokemon are my main 4, but this game is amazing. It really did deserve the praise, and while I agree their were too few stars in areas, the fact they created that many diverse galaxies is a miracle.

They should have had 9 stars per area, have like 500+ stars. That'd be epic, but then people would complain it's too long, etc.

Then again, that many stars would've opened them up to severe repetition...so...

Edit: You'd be happen to know (My girlfriend drew the Ttars on the side of the sig) I bred one Jolly 31/31/28/25/24/31 >_> My lead-sandstorm beast! I got it right after you disappeared.

You have yet to see the spinning platforms dissapear. Flip out galaxy; it's the last normal galaxy you get to and, with cosmic clones, it's easily one of the hardest not perfect-run missions in the game (though it's fun once you get it down to a science). The trick for both of those levels (and the back 120 stars) is to learn how to creatively use your jumps and spins. You can't beat Flip out with normal jumps and spins and good luck getting the green stars if you can't at least master your triple jumps and wall jumps + spinning.

They definetly went all out with the game. Sure the green stars can be a pain in the neck, but it's a better inclusion than "Guess what, you now get to beat the game with LUIGI!."

And congrats. I haven't IV bred in a long time and I certainly know it's a pain.

... I played the Mario Squared Galaxy.

That thing made me rage like no other, bringing back horrible memories of that galaxy in SMG1

That brought back happy memories of frollicking through the dissolving platforms while easily collecting 100 purple coins.

I'm having a horrible time with the Boss Blitz prankster comet. The rock monster guy from Galaxy 1 is incredibly annoying and takes like 2 minutes up if I'm lucky.
I hate when the Boos blow up on the hand and not his body :/

It's a tough mission. I can beat Dino Piranah, King Kaliente, and Major Burrows under a minute and Fiery Dino Piranah isn't that tough. Bouldergeist always ruins my time. I hear that if you are close enough Bouldergeist will only use the dual hand raise that completly opens up his body. Besides that, try getting two boos in one swing. That way you'll either get two hits on the body or destroy the right hand.

I suppose I just got lucky with the Time Attack at Boss Blitz. I beat Bouldergeist in 90 seconds, lol

The more I think about it, the weirder I find Slimy Spring Galaxy to be. It's a potential last-world galaxy before you face Bowser in the last level, and yet it's just so strangely "empty." It's a planet full of caves where you start at just one of them, it's full of water to go shell-swimming in, it has weird music playing, and it all ends with what is possibly the greatest piece of graphic design in the game.

It just feels so weird to me.

I finished the mission with about 20 seconds left; no joke.

Personaly it's one of my favorite levels. Sure it's eerie, but for some reason I really like that eerieness about it (though I do feel the need to write a thorough report on why treasure chests can be a danger to Toad Birgade leaders after seeing that and Bigmouth Galaxy from SMG1).

You can almost say that about Battle Belt as well. OK, sure it's a bit more epic
especially with the gobblegut rematch as the hidden mission
, but I'd rather see Melty Monster up as a last level; something that is one of the most exciting levels in the game for me. Both of the current last levels seem...insipid.

And don't be afriad, Shimazu. The last worlds are tough, but they are also quite fun. Plus, with a few exceptions, most of what world 6 has to offer is about par for what you'll be facing in the special world. Now, the green stars and the grandmaster galaxy...

Does anyone else here hate Fluzzard? That bird is really pissing me off. I haven't gotten the 1st star in the fleet galaxy and I haven't gotten the medal or win the race in the other galaxy its in.

And that's why I love it. Slimy Spring seemed like a creepy water level like the one in SMG but the more I played it, the more it diverged from that idea and became better.

The only time I found fluzzard completly a pain was the second green star in fleet glide. Once you get the hang of him he isn't bad. Still, the manta will always be superior.

I just said Slimy Spring was unorthodox. I didn't say it was bad. :p

I prefer Fluzzard to the manta ray, if only because the levels Fluzzard is in have superior graphics and music to Manta's levels. As for the Green Star in Fleet Glide, I'm really glad it was in the 4th section of the course, and not the "nightmarishly" clustered 2nd section.

Missing the Comet Medal by inches after passing through all 5 gates is a fantastic demoralization process though.

Nothing will be as demoralizing as the many deaths getting the green stars on the stone cyclone. I ALWAYS messed up the trajectory to grab the second green star.

Stone Cyclone is probably in the game to

I got the 2nd green star there, but not the first one. >.<

Stone Cyclone Galaxy was fun for me. Finding where exactly the Green Stars are at is the tough part, but once I found those, I didn't have much of a problem getting them.

IIRC, once I found the 1st Green Star there, I just slowed time down, and did a triple jump + a spin to grab it. The Tox Boxes move slow enough to give you space to jump at the precise moment and spot.

The second star is just trial-and-error, lol. I missed that star plenty of times by a hairsbreadth.

Some of the green stars are HARD to get to. The later two on hightail falls, the final Melty monster star, etc.

I remember staring in amazement as to where the Green Stars in Twisty Trials Galaxy were at, cursing Miyamoto for his cheek and ingenuity at several of the Green Stars in the Bowser/Bowser Jr. Levels (seriously, the two stars in Bowser Jr.'s second level, and one of the stars in Jr.'s final level were VERY well thought out) and sighing in disappointment at the Green Star locations in Battle Belt and Boss Blitz.

For some reason, the hardest green star for me to find was the second one at sky station. I didn't know about the audio clue until I found that star. I also struggled finding the second one at Fleet Glide (I dodge pillars, not go around them) and the second one at Bowser Jr.'s Boom Bunker.

Only the last one with rock Mario Killed me. I was shocked the game wasn't gonna throw a cosmic guide at me. That first platform with the sharp right hand turn kept killing me and I usually messed up my tragectory actually getting the star.
