Spoiler Question:

First in normal font I must say, after you get the final world done and start the second half of the game, the harder/longer half, the difficulty REALLY does spike up...sheesh D:.

Okay so once I have Luigi is there ever a point in using Mario?
I'm only on 170 stars but I'm finding the green stars way easier and quicker than the first 120.

and no, there is no point. Luigi is a demigod.

This. I always preferred him in concept as well. Taller, healthier, better in Brawl (in my opinion), etc. Luigi<3 Not to mention he gets Daisy who is amazing<333

And honestly, the 100 purple coin thing on the 8bit Luigi world annoyed me.

I've got 11 stars and already the game is wowing me more than SMG1. Every level just seems so fresh and unique. Loving it so far.

PIANTAS???????????????? THIS GAME IS TOO GOOD. CAN'T WAIT TO GET FURTHER IN THE GAME

I finally understand why this game has been rated so highly.

Can you play as Luigi permanently? I only come across him in certain galaxies where he offers to play as him.

Once you get all 120 stars, and beat bowser again, Luigi will send you a letter saying that you can switch anytime by going in the door. Just walk backwards from your starting point, you can't miss it.

Luigi might have better jumps, but Mario handles smoother. You want that smooth handling in places where you need precise movements, like the last star.

Oh yeah, I'm sorry, just
beat bowser for the first time, THEN you can switch freely. I personally prefer Luigi's better jumps and speed, but if you need handling and acceleration, go with Mario for the star

I mostly use Luigi but he really sucks in some sections I must admit. I died a bunch of times on Boo Moon Galaxy, that part with the poison swamp and the moving blocks. Luigi slides so much. In fact, I think he slides even more than he did in Galaxy1

I stopped using Luigi getting the green stars in Stone Cyclone Galaxy. Getting the first star seem easier with Mario to me, I could never get the first Green Star as Mario.

A- isn't too bad, but it did tank it. Good imo, I love this game, but I kinda like OoT a lot too. Then again, I prefer adventure to platformer so it's biased. I will say, these green stars are pretty fun.

Don't worry, SMG2 has a good 25 or so reviews left before it's done.

If they're all positive, then it'll be #1 again for sure.

I think its generally agreed the 2nd was better then the first. Which is why I think it deserves to at least be ahead of the original in overall ranking.

This game makes me wonder where the series is going to go next. Generally, space is the final frontier, the most extreme frontier. It's going to be hard as flying **** for Nintendo to make a game that can beat the Galaxy series in terms of sheer outstandingness.

The only thing I can think of off the top of my head is an "Epic Mickey Concept" style of game where you're restoring the world from ruin, like Bowser actually being successful or some ****, but it'd be an odd thing for the Mario franchise to move onto, you know?

Galaxy 2 should never be rated under Galaxy, SMG2 is better in nearly every way as a game and sequel. ._.

Alternate universe where Alternate Mario is the bad guy and Alternate Bowser is the good guy bro.

You know what I'd love?

It's kind of downscaling things, but,

A 3D Mario adventure that takes place in the Mushroom Kingdom. We've had paintings, Isle Delfino, and the entirety of space, but never our own backyard full of goombas, koopas, paratroopas, and all the different towns/locations. I'd love to take warp pipes and travel to different places in the Kingdom and just have a blast through there. Simpler yet not without some innovative stuff.

[EDIT]

It'd hafta be a massive game though... I'm kind of getting the vibe that a Mushroom Kingdom based Mario 3D game would feel like the Legend of Zelda when it comes to the vast land and different terrains. Only it wouldn't play like a Zelda game, obviously. Just with the levels and different 3D/2D Side Scrolling aspects at times.

Who'd be up for either a Wii/3DS game that's like that?

Super Mario Wii

Who says that taking steps back is a bad thing? Look at Final Fantasy remakes like IV and III. Or whatever else we get.

[EDIT #2]

For one more comparison, I guess we could think about something like Paper Mario. Only in the 3D style of Mario platformers that we love. ANYWAY! That's my two cents and totally off topic. But hey, we were on the subject of where to go from here.

I don't think a fully open world sandbox game is the right direction for Mario to go in. SM64 was probably the perfect balance between exploration and platforming for Mario games. In many ways, Mario Sunshine tried to be a lot more exploratory I prefer Galaxy for going full-on platforming. After all, that IS what Mario is about, isn't it?

Plus, the Green Stars in Galaxy 2 play a lot like the stars in Mario64.

ALSO: I can't for the life of me find the 2nd star in Boo Moon Galaxy. I can hear it during the moving purple platforms but the game doesn't let you move the camera at all or go into 1st person at that point. I have the 1st and the 3rd one.

When do the Green stars pop up are do you just have to randomly find them? I've got like 92 stars and I beat Bowser once.

Still don't know how to play as Luigi lol.

I'm done with world 1's green stars pretty much. It's fun, but I got a DS game so I'm sidetracked XD

I finally have 241 stars, not looking forward to getting the final star though.

I would give this game a 9, -1 when I realised just how awful the camera can be sometimes due to a lack of freedom with it.

It's near the secret star that you have to pass the launch star to get to. Right before the platform goes to the secret star you jump off the left IIRC and it's there.

The camera was never a problem with me, it always complied (bar a select few areas I wish I could have gone first person but couldn't, but this was due to them disabling the camera in 2D segments, which was reasonable. My only problem with SMG2 is that for a game that's flipping around so much the slope controls are iffy.

Finished about 2 days ago.

Grandmaster only killed me about 50 times lolz. Yoshi's part was easy once you got the hang of it, and the second and third parts were simple. The fourth part wasn't bad, but the shockwaves frustrated me. I used my clouds up here. The fifth was simple as long as you didn't rush. The final part...pray that you don't get hit by the hammers and boomerangs.

Great game. Has anyone used the infinite flutter jump with Yoshi to do anything crazy? You could bypass most of the last level pretty easily, until you get to the boomerangs of course.

You unlock Luigi after beating the last Bowser level in World 6. Then a door appears on the spaceship with an L above it.

The green stars show up after you get 120 stars and beat that same Bowser level again. Then what you do is select a level and pick Green Star 1, 2 or 3. Then the game plops you down in a level and you're on your own. It's really not that difficult though. A lot of the stars are not hidden at all, and they make a really distinct sound when you're near them.
