Why would we want a back room? To hide our discussions and keep any of our knowledge secret?

Well the BBR gets away with it.

Nah, our BR would be publicly viewable.

Similar to Smogon's Policy Review.

But with no secret "Inside Scoop" forum.

If you look around you might notice that no one cares about stage discussion or stage knowledge. I do think the only way any of this might work is to try to get TOs to run side events with alternative rulesets. Side events generally require some sort of of extreme to even be interesting so its a good way to get alot of attendance and get people to try new things.

Good luck with that.

The only side-events my TOs will allow is Project M. They won't even allow mid-low tiers.

Good, low/mid tier events suck. Get him to run Brawl- because P:M is ********.

But no, we need to basically come together and say, "we, the people who actually talk about and study stages, think that this is the right idea". And we need someone to be a reliable figurehead. A national-level TO, a top player, a community leader, someone!

Good luck getting one of those. Heads up, being a top level player or a TO doesn't really mean you can get alot of people to listen to you. You have to agree with them for them to respect your opinion. Thats what the BBR is about.

^That's untrue...there are plenty of conflicting opinions in the BBR.

I didn't know you were in Toronto, SD... thinking about hitting up a tournament there this summer, if they still happen. You should come out if I do.

I want in on the OP too =D

North York is part of Toronto. Toronto used to be a collection of 20-30 different cities/villages about 20 years ago.

Also, if you show up at whatever happens in July I'll definitely be there. Since it's most likely me hosting it and all.

I'm actually considering a stagelist made up entirely of stage builder stages atm, as well as some other options.

Maybe not even Twinkie's.
Oh BPC, you clearly don't know enough about me. :awesome: I thought you realized that I'm practically indifferent on a lot of things we talk about, and that I normally join the side of the debate that's the most fun to argue for (Hint: Stage Discussion Forum's location). ;)

Also, BPC, no matter what we do, people are always going to find some way to discredit us. My arguments have been turned to **** because I'm from Puerto Rico, and nobody could find Puerto Rico in the map of Mexico, so I must not be that important. >_> T-Block? Raziek? Ghostbone? Grim? Kyo? They don't live in America, they could fall under the same fate. Hell, not to say this in a bad way, but being associated in ideals with "that rage guy BPC" will give us bad rep. Oh, he's another BPC? LOL IGNORE! (Don't take this the wrong way please, I respect you a lot, but this has happened to me before, and I'm just keeping it real).

Point is, we're most likely gonna get discredited anyways, by someone, somewhere. If you want to silence or not include people in this group because they might ruin our image, then we might as well not make the group at all.

The way I see it, we're all smart people, and we're are all tight-knit enough to be able to discuss things in a productive and respectable manner amongst ourselves. If we wanted to make a ruleset, we could easily come together, argue our points, and present them in an organized and likable manner.

Anyways, I'll be updating the OP now.

I will hopefully have a huge post on Pictochat prepared for tomorrow.

I'm kinda curious as to how big the fires sparked will be.

None taken, I know that that's a factor. But having a figurehead, someone like AA or OS, someone known and respected by the community... It would just help SO ****ING MUCH.

Agreed, but I doubt we can find anyone to help us (although we could find people to pitch the idea to). For the most part, we're just gonna have to do this by presenting solid arguments and loads of information.

Instead of a spokes person we could create a new account under the name of "The Stage Discussion Back Room". Using this account we could present the main argument, and instead of having one person individually response to everything as our spokes person, we can as a group collectively respond. We would have this account make one post every two days or so and it would respond to all the core questions/issues raised. (This single response would be written by whoever felt like making it, and we would as a group go through and add in our touch)

not Ghostbone/Grim (with their publicly extreme views).
I wish people would stop associating me with Grim all the time >.>
My views are quite different to his. (and besides playing devil's advocate for Mario Bros. I can't remember arguing for anything extreme...)

Anyway that idea sounds cool.
Would we make a private group to discuss posts before they're posted or something?

A private group would be nice to discuss things such as how you guys are going to organize yourselves throughout this project, but people have expressed opinions on how the group shouldn't keep conversations and knowledge hidden from public viewing.

Edit: Before I forget, I updated the OP this morning.

IDK, does Raziek count as a figurehead? He's the TO of this group and the proof of concept that an open stagelist works totally fine AND can be implemented without angering the public at large.

Do we have a SDBR up already? I can post my ruleset there once it's ready.

And any input on the idea of having a "list of realist changes" and "list of idealist changes"?

I don't think the SDBR is up yet and lets not even post our idealist changes, people will just think we are insane. Sticking to realistic changes is the best course of action in my opinion.

So... where should we start the possible SDBR?
making changes on 3.1? on Unity Ruleset? FROM ZERO?

SDBR idea is really silly considering most of us are not known out there (no, Raz is also in the "scrub" spot for most people as he banned MK).
It's silly enough to worth the try. :awesome:

BTW I made a giant post on Picto in the unity ruleset thread. Feel free to rip it up because I still firmly believe that Pictochat's potential of random rewards is not fair at all.

So where are Jack Kieser and Raziek?

I still have no idea how I didn't know about this thread. I namesearch fairly frequently, too. :awesome:

Also, <3 you guys, putting me in God tier on all of the debate tier lists. :bee:

Gah, double post. Stupid Livetopic lied to me and told me someone posted. Turns out it was me. D:

When we say tier, we mean stage debating tiers, as in how well do you debate.

You're god tier, so I put you as that. :)

Ninja'd massively. :)

This actually looks like a lost cause to me. Everyone go get power and meet back here in 1 year. Then we will change stuff with an iron fist.

Tesh is right, but it shouldn't be a surprise. Arguing here on SWF doesn't get anything done...ever.

Our leaders actually decided to take one of the most controversial topics of brawl (stages) and shove it in with online play and 1P mode. Yeah....

I might just hang up the debating over this stuff, because it's not going to get us anywhere really...gotta take action at actual tournaments I guess

Hence why I welcome our new stage overlord Raziek. :p

(It'd be nice if I actually had locals more than twice a year to make change at...)

I'm moving to Scotland for a year, but once I get back I'm planning on usurping my region's TOs.

I hope my region's players feel like learning to play on stage builder stages.
