Lol@this evaluating Brawl discussion. If they tinker with Brawl to make it Melee-like with a bigger roster, I'm in. They're just games. If Brawl was kind of disappointing and you can tinker with it, by all means do so. That sounds like fun...

Bottom Line: I just want to play Ike with l-cancel and WD. -_-;;

I'll go ahead and say right now that Ike + WDing is pretty awesome.

Nah
Tripping actually WAS a good idea for what they were going for, which wasn't a competitive fighting game. Considering in an interview Sakurai said that he wanted to put certain elements into the game where even sometimes the WORSE player would win, tripping is great for that.
Tripping effects everyone negatively, even people who only play for fun with smashballs, items 10 min matches coin matches bonus matches stamina matches 1 hand matches only the b button matches w/e.

Tripping is dumb, its negative in all aspects, there no positives to it.
No one likes tripping, like..no one. Even Casual players. My friends think tripping is ******** to the poitn where they dont even play the game lol.

XIF's signature reminds us that we live in America and boobs are totally awesome... I wonder if they're real or not....

back to the topic... hackers need to fix the sweetspot of falcon's knee and he can move up a tier rank with the wavedash cheat...

The Wavedash code has been updated like 4 times now so all the initial problems I originally stated are no longer around. Every character can now wave dash, even after transforming, and Nana will WD with you as well though she doesn't always keep up. I imagine it will make ICs a lot harder to contend with though. Possibly improve other characters chain throws / set ups as well.

Samus (and Link & T.Link) has been altered so that you don't get 3 air-dodge + grapples. You just get one, and fall afterwards like you would Melee. If you z-air without using air-dodge though, you still get to do it 3 times so it doesn't effect her z-air game. It does still improve your aiming/mobility using it near the ground though and you can practically keep the person from moving if you really spam it. Also, the newest version seems to have a mini grapple jump, but it's not like Melee where it was longer than up-b.

You may not be able to jump out of shine with Fox, but now you short hop and use it in the air then wave land to follow. The air one is quicker anyway, so you're basically back to the shine canceling method of Smash 64.

Aerial heavy characters make really good use of the wave landing. If you try to waveland off a platform/ledge though it will stop you at the edge. So you have to waveland, dash off, then do your attack. You get basically the same effect but you have to input a little bit more.

Diddy & ROB are able to pick up their banana/gyro by WDing over it. This speeds you up alot since you don't have to stop short, or get punished from a predicted dash attack pick up. Angled levels was also really hard to pick up a gyro before since you could only grab it if you were level or below it. Now you just WD where a dashattack would miss picking it up. You are also more mobile when charging the gyro since you can short hop, start charging (reversed if desired), then waveland.

So as you can see it changes things quite a bit. It's really interesting playing this way and highly recommend that everyone at least tries it. There's a lot of potential here.

Im really interested to try this at home, how do I get it working manko? Do I just need to pick up an action replay or whatever or does it involve that homebrew channel thing? (I haven't touched my wii in months so I know nothing about it)

also, does this make L-Canceling exsist?!

*edit* to nevershootme - yes those are real, you can tell this difference between real and fake very easily ecspecially when they are bouncing like that.

There's no Action Replay for the Wii. It's all done through the homebrew channel. It's a software mod only, so it's doable for everyone.

You can install it either by downloading the DVD iso if you have a mod chip, or the most common way of downloading a modified Twilight Princess save file to crash the game and install the channel. It works by making Eponia's name longer than is allowed so when it's referenced at the start of the game, it errors out and runs the installer. You have to make sure to get the correct modified save file though as there's different versions of Zelda. You just check the back of the disk though, like finding your version of Melee. I went the DVD iso route though, so I'm sure someone else can help you in finding the save file you need.

Once the Homebrew Channel is installed, all it does is act as a new menu to run whatever programs you have stored on your SD card. The actual program to run the code is called Ocarina or you can use its successor, GekkoOS. The read me file will tell you how to load up & use the codes.

I did a lot of random searching around for information since I had to research mod chips as well, but one site I remember that would help is WiiBrew.org You should be able to link to the rest from there.

Also, this code is for Wave Dash only, no L-Cancels.

sweet sounds like I got a project for my next rainy day im off of work.

Yeah I was in doubt about the L-Canceling, but whoever made the youtube video mentioned something about it in the more info sectoin, which I really felt they didnt know what they were talking about in refrence to the L-Cancels. Not to mention they didnt do any of the stuff a melee vet would do with the first chances to wavedash, as in no attacks, no platform dashes or anything. not to mention they had items on lol they were just going back and forth, back and forth

I did see another video which I found through DA's site, which showed off many of the characters and actually doing attacks.

just discovered some more Samus related stuff.

The classic Grapple Cancel from Melee is back. This time though, you just air-dodge into the bomb without using grapple at all. The time that you get out of the air-dodge is the same time that the bomb goes off. So you bomb-jump and get your air dodge back again. Since you don't need the grapple, you can do it multiple times too. In fact, if you do use the grapple it won't bounce you. You can however air-dodge and grapple to land on an exploding bomb on the ground though and cancel that way.

The grapple jump isn't nearly as high as Melee's and probably shorter than up-b. You can get a lot more DI though as up-b doesn't get you very much horizontal. Conversely, grapple dropping gets you back on the ground a lot quicker than her floaty nature allows normally. Unlike Melee which had lag when landing with grapple though, there's nothing to slow you down here.

Her general movement is a lot more fluid now as well with all the wave landing. It's so easy to finish a combo with an air-dodge grapple too. This seriously makes me want to play Samus again. She's back to how she should have been in the first place. Too bad it won't be a tourney standard any time soon.

I really need to get ahold of a twilight princess and try all this out, some one let me borrow their copy or some one bring in a wii with this all already done to nexus some time. maybe it will make samus not feel like shes underwater in brawl, thats the number one thing I hate about her.

Well I lied, the main thing I hate about samus in brawl is how shes the biggest ***** ever now, all amazon samus and ****. WHY make her SO big :(

Man, some people in the smash community REALLY DO have a serious god complex. They have a vision of what they think the game should be like, and their vision is superior, and will do whatever it takes to make their vision into a reality.

The game is what it is, guys. You gotta leave it alone or don't play it :/

just played 8-10 matches with my brother
with wavedashing and l-cancelling on, tripping off

aside from having to remind myself to click the trigger, L-canceling is actually hella easy. I think you jsut have to hold R/L and your shield will come right up when you land, and if you're holding Z you grab immediately (read: broken)

but otherwise, it's pretty nice ****.. gdorf stomp -> sideB anyone?
how about stomp->stomp->stompstomp? yea, its there.

and Fair is back, baby!

^_^
Phantom Wings said he's done hacking the melee stuff back into brawl,, but we seriously need to beg him to put dash canceling back in there and we'll be one step closer to having melee-mobility

oh btw playing footsie with ZSS's bair was hella fun. esp with that deadly sideB!

oh and i had fun with Gdorf's jab followed by a WD .

~~my feelings, however, are that the game will be extremely broken by some of the other characters out there.. like i can imagine falco's d-throw bringing ppl to really high percentages thanks to pivot grabbing and wavedashing. . . but given that i kinda just brawl for ****s, it's been pretty **** fun. if i want something serious i'll play melee, ya know?

the L-cancel one needs to be worked on though. It doesn't just reduce the lag, it removes it completely. I don't think anyone wants that.

i dont see the big deal who cares
You should be deducted one post. Do not come into a thread just to make a generic apathetic statement. If you don't like hacks, don't use them.

Back on topic, the wavedashing looks incredible, not quite as functional but still incredible. I'll proably keep Brawl airdodge on (or is that needed to be disabled for WDing?)

To WD you need the melee airdodge. The momentum from the directional dodge is what causes you to slide when you hit the ground with it. I suppose it's possible if you did some tweaking to the code to allow for multiple directional dodges, but that would make things pretty messy in terms of general game flow.

Man, some people in the smash community REALLY DO have a serious god complex. They have a vision of what they think the game should be like, and their vision is superior, and will do whatever it takes to make their vision into a reality.

The game is what it is, guys. You gotta leave it alone or don't play it :/
Seriously this man won the thread. Don't modify MY game just because YOU don't like how it is. If you want to wavedash, please play melee.

First of all, ginger =/= man. Second of all, it's not YOUR game, and people can play it how they **** well please. Consider this a subset of casual players.

I mean, I don't even have a wii, but this idea of brawl players freaking out because the people who didn't like brawl and weren't playing it anyways are now playing something that looks like brawl but is a functionally different game just confuses me. I mean, what does it really change for you?

I dunno, smash64 z-canceling worked basically the same way. Admittedly there were some pretty busted combos in that game, but I'd think that was at least as much a product of the lack of DI as anything else.

"Your" game? Who ever said anything about modifying your Wii or your copy of Brawl? If you're going to pitch a fit about hacks then you should also be condemning every other Game Genie, Codebreaker, Action Replay, and any other cheat/modification devices in the history of video games for the same reasons. While we're at it, ban modchips, Freeloaders, and all other hardware modifications because that's not how the manufacturer designed it. In fact, no one should ever modify anything ever again because someone will inevitably dislike it.

Apologies. I automatically jump on one-line, seemingly non-contributive posts waaaaaaaaay too often. That happens when all you do on SWF is idle around the Pool Room. (or GBD, if I'm feeling brave)

It's been a long week at uni, I need a vacation.

I do way too much thinking for my own good, save when it comes to college at which point I try and get by with an A on minimal effort. So far it has an 80% success rate.

Honestly, the screenname is an old inside joke no one gets and I wanted to change it but apparently they don't do that anymore. Ah well.

Just a tip: your location says "in my girl's friend bed"; is that a typo or an inside joke?
