Every tournament I go to with this guy he gets sooo much better. I usually beat him with my climbers, but this tournament he beasted and owned everyone. I knocked him into losers, and he came back and beat me in two sets, as well as beating a metaknight that almost always beats him in tournament in two sets (6-1). There are videos :). They just have the ends of some of the matches, but they are worth a watch.

On the ride home, I could swear Roy was mumbling some secret Marth strategies in his sleep.

True story.

Very good Marth. Those videos were very entertaining. How does Sethlon fare against him?
They haven't really played in tournament, but they go about even with Roy_R winning a little more.

That's a very smart Marth right there. I'd love to see more matches of him. You did really well also, Hylian.

Also, post 1000!

This is the guy I was talking about in the best marth thread, remember?

He has the best marth I have ever seen, and I think he's the best player in Texas.

woah that was a kick *** marth. Against the meta though. Is meta really that helpless against that grab release tech? B/c Roy_R was using that and he got a grab release > f-air for a kill in match 5 I think. Was it escapable?

You can DI out of it and roll away. It's just that when Metaknight is released, he lunges back in, which gives you the impression that he is susceptible to the grab release. But of course, he isn't, you just have to DI out and buffer a roll.

At least it's to my understanding that the above fact is true. Characters such as Game and Watch and ROB also fall to pseudo-grab release chains if they don't bother to DI out of it immediately after the release.

Yeah, but this doesn't apply if they jumpbreak, where it's a free fair for marth :).

Wow, I never tried that (but maybe that's because I'm too obsessive with Marth's ground game anyway). I guess I SHOULD let them jump away sometimes then. ^^

I should do that on Lucas users just for kicks. =P Thanks Hylian!

Alright.

I'm going to spread out my commentary. Keep you guys hungry for more.

I'm a sadist. :D

Ok, so here we go. First vid vs Stiltzkin.

00:00 to 00:26 - So we can see some solid play on Roy-R's part. His responses are all good and very precise. Whenever MK leaves himsel open he takes advantage of it. Towards the end of this though he screws up. Eats a Drill Rush and then F-smashes in the other direction. He pays the price and eats a d-throw. He got sloppy.

00:32 - This was risky on his part, but just by being near MK it was enough to draw out a dodge since MK was probably scared of being attacked. Roy_R took a gamble and it payed off. He is rewarded with a chance to score a kill with an f-smash.

00:36 - Ok, so this wasn't really wise. The sky is MK's domain and he started jumping around putting himself in alot of danger.MK didn't get enough off from him doing that, but it was still risky.

00:44 - I think he would have been better off throwing MK off the side again to force him past his ledge game. It would have been easiar to control the match that way.

00:54 - We can see some jumping around again. I'll reiterate that I don't think this is wise since MK could just bust out a Shuttle Loop to slice Marth's face open.

00:59 - EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW. QQ Meta***g*t. lolz.

01:15 - He had enough time to counter here. Would have been better then shielding.

01:21 - MK has no lag after landing from a glide attack. The best option is to just roll away. Trying to attack is very risky and he could have lost a stock easily or been punished if the MK was smarter with his punishing.

At this point I think he should have backed off and let his shield come back to full power. He could easily be shield stabbed now, but he still chooses to continue the match as per usual. I don't think this is a smart move. Do now fight recklessly. Make your opponent play on your terms. If the MK had been smarter then he would have just pressured that weak shield relentlessly until he got a shield poke. Roy_R got lucky.

01:35 - Don't think much could have been done here as I think Marth had just lost his invincibility frames as he was coming out of his roll.

01:42 - This just shows that Marth can outprioritize MK's up b with just about anything really as long as your timing is good. You could beat it with a jab if you have good timing.

01:50 - I think you could have caught him with a Dancing Blade here. W/e though. He is on the ledge and you have positioning advantage.

01:53 - You were a bit too close to MK, but going for a retreating fair was a smart safe option. A nice play. I liked this alot. He was in danger since he was so close and sitting in his shield, so he did something that would allow him to do several things. Create a wall, reset his spacing, retain control of the match, attack, and be defensive. Retreating fair...it's good...so use it. He did mess up when MK tryed to rush though. Missed a chance to punish a missed grab.

02:11 - A Shieldbreaker probably would have worked out great here. Judging from the size of that shield, it definitely would have broken it. And then MK would have been a sitting duck. Easy prey for a fully charged Shieldbreaker. Still, going for a grab release was really good since it set-up for a free tipper fair. Althought it was MK's bad DI that did him in.

02:18 - Excellent. Baited out MK's attack then does a standard fair to Dancing Blade combo. THIS is Marth's game plan vs MK in a nutshell. And he got him on the edge. Still he could have countered that tornado since MK was half the stage away.

So for the next 25 seconds we can see Roy_R getting completely WTFOWNED by the whornado and then by the claw in the background. After that we see some good exchanges and Roy_R does a good job of forcing MK to get past his sword and picking his moments to strike. At the end MK gets sloppy and eats Dolphin Slash for dinner.

I'll say this to start. That MK was good, but did ALOT of dumb **** and I feel like Roy_R was the better player overall.

Roy_R is a solid player though. Like all of us he could use some fine tuning in some areas and he really needs to work on his responses to MK's Mach Tornado. Namely he needs to work on countering it on reaction. But overall, he did everything a good Marth should be doing.

Good ****.

Watch this Marth people. And learn from him.

Actually I have faced many D3's that you just cant get out << (It sucks, I know)

They have the timing perfected and you have to hope they mess up.

Solution? Stay out of grab range and close enough he wont spam you....spacing ftw.
