People need to stop acting like puritans about their "precious Smash not being tainted by eroge games".
Unlike what most of you seem to think, porn isn't something condemned by mature adults. A series isn't going to be seen as less just because there are canon ******* out there, ESPECIALLY in Japan where many artists, including those working at hgh-profile games, make a living out of doujinshis.
Besides, FSN's eroge content has been so disconnected from the actual franchise since its inception that current games get a T from the ESRB, so it's not like that even needs to be anywhere near the game.
"But think of the children! What if they find out about the eroge scenes through Smash!"
There are content warnings for a reason, future rereleases also completely cut out the badly-written porn and replaced them with MANA TRANSFER DRAGON. We have other M rated characters in Smash too, but no one is worried a kid will get into Persona or Metal Gear because of it.
Joker is certainly not a "you'd mever see it coming" character in the current state of third parties. What was surprising about his reveal is that there was any reveal at all.
If people who advocate censorship get up in arms, consider this factoid as well: Rule 34 exists, of characters
not associated with porn in any way, shape, or form. If Saber is playable, her history in the eroge industry is no different from your typical kiddie fan who accidentally runs into furry porn and Peach hentai. Seriously, whether something is canon in a series or not, the fact remains that
nothing is innocent and kids learn about this **** on their own eventually.
Orange is one of my favorite colors!
But well, these characters are all part of my life as a Video Game player
I love how there's a fun little pattern behind your list:
-2 human characters
-2 animal characters
-2 from Western developers
-2 from Eastern developers
I think it's hard to gauge a Dragon Quest character based on what Sakurai has said, he's obviously a huge fan of the series but I don't think it's up to him.
It feels notable that Horii announced DQXI:S via a Sakurai blog though.
To be fair, Nintendo provided a list of candidates for him, so he had a certain degree of freedom. According to Sakurai's tweet wording, it's implied he got to pick 5 if he thinks he can make them work.
