It's a typical PR nonanswer that really tells us nothing, as they wouldn't be able to say anything anyway because of NDAs. At best they didn't outright deny it like the DMC producer did about Dante so we can just deduce it's still possible.

Except they went into a bit more detail than just giving a non-answer, asking fans to upvote the request so they could go to Nintendo to show the fan support. If we assume they know, I don't believe they would say that, if he was already in. If they don't know, then it means nothing.

I think the absolute highest Sonic can get in this game is both Shadow (Sonic echo) and Tails (Semi-clone). But likely not getting both in the base game. One or both I could easily see become DLC

Ok so big rant incoming:
While i do agree we are not gonna get 2 Sonic newcomers,if there has to be one of Sonic's supporting casts imo IT HAS TO BE EGGMAN, (if he isnt in i will still respect Sakurai's decision) Here are a couple of reasons
1: He is one of Gaming's most iconic and biggest villains, he is one the same level as Bowser and far exceeds Ganon,Dedede and K.Rool in terms of recognition. I do think for Sonic characters Sakurai would at least CONSIDER HIM.
2: he is THE SONIC VILLAIN, while i understand that Shadow can be made much quicker and easier, i do think that the good doctor can fit in incredibly with the Heroes-Villains theme, think about it we got:

Link-Ganon
DK-K.Rool
Kirby-Dedede,MK
and you are telling me Sonic-Shadow would be the best fit for one of Gaming's most recognizable and important characters AND NOT BRING IN THE GOOD DOCTOR, thats just disrespectful towards sonic's legacy
3: wouldnt it be cool to do a Mario-Sonic-Dk-Link V Bowser-Eggman-K.Rool-Ganon 8 Player Smash
4: He has TONS of moveset potential with all the mechs,equipment and Armies he has had over the Sonic Series, a FARCRY over the Echo and 'isabelling' ( giving tails the issabele treatment) that Shadow and/or Tails would have some people say some of his mechs are too big AND I SAY RIDLEY MADE IT IN SO SIZE NO LONGER MATTERS.

6: We could even get an DR.Wily Echo fighter of him (or reverse idc too similair).

Overall i really think Eggman has a lot more going for him to make it in then tails but Shadow is more likely.

Some people said Marth, Lucina and Chrom (and maybe Links) can get fighting but it seems pretty good to me. Bayonetta being Fairy is pretty funny but accurate and Olimar being Bug?

The battery power for the Pro Controller is excellent. I usually get somewhere around 40 or so hours on it before needing to charge. You can connect it to your Switch (and even use it as a PC controller on Steam!) by connecting it with the included USBC cable (which also charges it). As for button layout, I like it quite a lot. An issue I always had with the GC controller was the janky shoulder buttons and awkward placement of buttons like Z and Y, but the Pro Controller uses uses the super comfortable (IMO, at least) layout of the 3DS while mixing it with the same nice joystick layout of things like the GC controller or the Xbox One controller. The only criticism I could give the Pro Controller is that the D-Pad kinda sucks, as diagonal presses are super touchy and can be inputted accidentally very easily. However, from what I've read, the only people who have those issues seem to be people like me who bought year 1 models, so it may not be an issue anymore.

Honestly, while I will probably use the GC controller quite a bit with this game, I'm probably gonna put more time into the Pro Controller. The biggest reason for me is that I plan on playing this game in handheld quite a bit like I do my other Switch games, so using the Pro Controller as my main controller will allow me to keep the same muscle memory I learned from playing Smash 3DS and will allow me to go from Pro Controller to Joy Con without too much hassle.

So, the cable charges it and plugs it in to the Switch? I need to see what it looks like...

And you can use it in handheld mode too? Very useful if that's what you're saying.

While i do agree we are not gonna get 2 Sonic newcomers,if there has to be one of Sonic's supporting casts imo IT HAS TO BE EGGMAN, (if he isnt in i will still respect Sakurai's decision) Here are a couple of reasons

If I recall correctly, some flying types can't fly. It's just they resemble birds or flying creatures. Pit and Pittoo still have wings, so it's not that weird them being Flying type.

...though, maybe Pit should be weak to Fire.

So, does it come with the plugs to connect it to the Switch? Still not sure about that. And what's Gyro Support?

Yes, it does indeed come with its own USB cable that you can use to charge it, just as @Mr. Wario mentioned.

Gyro Support basically refers to motion controls, but in the case of the controller itself, you shift it around in real-time to help improve your aiming (in cases such as Splatoon 2 and aiming your bow in Breath of the Wild). It actually works really well in my opinion, just as responsive as the Gamepad for the Wii U was if not more so.

As an aside, I do wonder just how good HD Rumble will be for Ultimate, as I really enjoy that feature when implemented properly. Hoping for subtle nuances between normal attacks and special attacks, landing on a platform, pummeling and throwing, and pulling off Final Smashes. It could make the difference in me favoring the Switch Pro controller for Ultimate over the GameCube one (which is the one I have been accustomed to use for so long now), especially as the Switch Pro controller does feel really comfortable.

That guy sucks for ****ting on Geno like that sure, but if you legitimately think the chair theory and LoZ are what Skull Kid has supporting him you're either willfully ignorant or just unaware.

AT is still missing, mii costume is still in Smash 4 (although I don't see that one as proof all that much for varying reasons) Moon is in as a MM AT which is particularly curious.

Shadow has less going for him and people still think he has a chance. Not to mention him being a third party.

I swear I wish the LoZ and chair things never happened so we could look at this objectively as opposed to with that stuff in mind...

On the topic of whether or not Nintendo is running out of first party character additions for Smash Bros., I won't lie, the pool is quite obviously smaller than it used to be. That being said, the pool is far from non-existent. It's still a pool, after all, and not a puddle. It may not be an Olympic-sized swimming pool, but it's still a small-scale suburban above-ground pool to be sure.

Analogies aside, I figured I'd just use this as a jumping off point to talk about some Nintendo-owned characters that I'd personally like to see added in the future, whether it be in Ultimate as DLC or in future games. Note that it isn't necessarily an exhaustive list of viable, non-bottom-of-the-barrel Nintendo newcomers, but just some of my preferred picks. There are just some franchises I'm not itching to get a newcomer for, but very well could, like Kirby or Xenoblade Chronicles. As well, not all viable newcomers for a series will be mentioned. Once again, they're just my preferred picks. I'll also leave out retro characters entirely, as they're chosen for completely different reasons.

One big one is the Super Mario franchise. Yeah, it has a lot of characters in Smash already (especially when including folks like Yoshi and Wario), but it's literally Nintendo's biggest video game franchise (though it's beaten out as a multimedia franchise by Pokémon). Like it or not, you have to admit...Mario's C-Listers are much bigger deals than most franchises' A-Listers.

Though currently disconfirmed for Ultimate (but hey, maybe DLC), Captain Toad is absolutely a big deal. Toads in general are pop culture icons to a degree to which most characters on the roster dream of reaching. As well, there is Waluigi, controversial as he may be to some. People like to use the "spin-off exclusive" argument, but it truly doesn't matter. You're lying to yourself if you think Waluigi isn't iconic. The Mario Kart franchise alone eclipses most other Nintendo franchises multiple times over, to say nothing of the other sports and party titles.

As well, Luigi's Mansion itself could provide future newcomers. The franchise is more than viable now, having soon-to-be three main series titles, an upcoming remake of the first title, and an arcade spin-off made by Capcom. I don't think it's too far fetched to think a character like Professor E. Gadd (perhaps as a duo of sorts with Polterpup?) or King Boo could make for compelling a newcomer in the future.

For Donkey Kong Country, there are still quite a few characters who could work well in Smash. Dixie Kong could work either as a Diddy semi-clone, or as a full newcomer with a grappling moveset using her hair. Funky Kong is also incredibly popular, and could be added as a somewhat easy Donkey Kong semi-clone with a much more bodacious take on the great ape's moveset, all while doing some radical surfboard tricks for aerials. Plus, Flame Runner Final Smash. Do it, Sakurai.

I'll admit I'm not the biggest fan of The Legend of Zelda. I like it well enough, but outside of Link's Awakening, the franchise has never grabbed me to any meaningful extent. That being said, there is one type of character I'd definitely love to see in Smash from Zelda, and that's a Goron character, like Daruk. Gorons are an incredibly recurring Zelda race, and are so visually different from the rest of the current Zelda fighters. Add onto that another good super-heavyweight contender and a good reason to finally add a Death Mountain stage, and Daruk could just be really neat, I think. He's the Goron Champion, after all. Plus his trailer could have a stinger at the end of him running away from Duck Hunt, Wolf, and Isabelle.

Of course, Pokémon is a huge deal. I've been a Pokémon fan for basically my entire life, but I fully acknowledge the fact that a lot of my favorites (Chandelure, Marowak, Klefki, Ribombee, Qwilfish, Castform, etc) stand no chance at ever being included due to not being from the most recent generation. Granted, I'm still always excited to see whatever new Pokémon gets added in each game. Hell, Greninja was an amazing surprise last time due to being my Kalosian starter of choice. Pokémon will always be a hype bringer, and like Xenoblade and Fire Emblem, not keeping a static cast means there will always be characters to add without feeling excessive or undeserved.

Like Pokémon, Fire Emblem is a franchise that gets steady releases but lacks a static cast, meaning there are always characters to add without feeling tacked on. Once again like Pokémon, I know a lot of my favorites will likely never get added due to not being main lords (Merric, Tiki, Minerva, Hardin, Virion, Tobin, Mae, Silque, Saber...the list goes on for a while). That being said, Celica is a character I'd love to see, and is currently my most wanted character that isn't yet playable. Smash has kind of shown a disproportionate amount of love to Gaiden in the past anyway, and with Shadows of Valentia having been a success, I wouldn't rule her out just yet. Plus then I'd have my three favorite lords in Smash: Chrom, Celica, and Marth.

Though, I also wouldn't completely rule out Caeda. She doesn't have a huge shot, but I wouldn't call her odds completely non-existent. She's not the main lord of her games (Marth is), but she's incredibly important to the Archanea saga and is incredibly well liked among the fanbase. Plus, Lucina is a Lord in name only in Awakening anyway, so there's some leeway. Pegasus Knights are also one of the most iconic classes in the franchise, and Caeda is arguably the single most iconic one. Plus I mean hey, we'd get Cherami Leigh to voice a character in Smash, and that's a great bonus.

As a franchise, Punch-Out!! doesn't get a lot of newcomer discussion, sadly. However, the series offers some neat options to join the fight alongside Little Mac. Personally, I'd love it if Glass Joe, one of gaming's most iconic jobbers, were to get in as Smash's total joke fighter, more than even Pichu. He'd be added as a Little Mac echo, with his gangly physique and poor posture making him hunch over, keeping him in line with Mac's body size. However, there is one key difference: he's a balanced Little Mac. That's right, he's just as bad on the ground as he is in the air.

Finally, as far as new franchises are concerned, as much as I'd love to see Code Name: S.T.E.A.M. or The Legendary Starfy get characters, that is probably a pipe dream at this point. That being said, two new franchises stand out to me as far as being good additions: Rhythm Heaven and ARMS. Characters like the Chorus Kids and Spring Man would be worthwhile additions, and by no means scraping the bottom of the barrel.

So all in all, those are the Nintendo additions I can see future Smash games adding that have chances that at least exist, and are additions that I'd personally like. A shallower pool is still a pool, after all. But obviously I'm more than content with the current offerings. I've got Chrom now, after all.

So, apparently the woman speaking in that video about Steve in Smash was a community representative for Mojang or something, and not one of the devs or higher-ups. The devs just had some banter about loving to see Steve or a Creeper in Smash / the actual devs just made some jokes; at least, that's what the guy who recorded the video said on Reddit.

Really, the only people who would know would most-likely be the higher-ups such as leading devs like Jens and maybe some people from Microsoft. I guess we'll know in the next direct or when DLC ends or something.

4. Comparing fully unique characters with clones isn't a very good idea.

I can definitely see why putting Eggman in over Shadow or Tails would make sense thematically. However, the theme of heroes vs villains is just assumed at this point, with Ridley, Dark Samus, and K. Rool being sited as the biggest examples.

However, I think people are forgetting 2 major things:
1. Both Ridley and K. Rool were EXTREMELY popular choices by fans. They were (arguably) put in the game mainly because of their popularity, rather than their status as villains.
2. Dark Samus is an echo. She is based of an already existing character. Plus she was an assist in Smash 4, so it's very clear that Sakurai knew of her existence prior to finalizing the roster.

Also, it would be the first time that a 3rd party villain ever made it into Smash. Eggman would probably be the first that comes to mind. But considering some evidence on the other 2 characters:
1. Shadow is still MIA, being the only 3rd party character to be an assist in MULTIPLE Smash games + Knuckles being an assist.
2. Tails had a Mii costume in Smash 4; the other Sonic character that got a Mii costume, Knuckles, is now an assist trophy.

I honestly don't see Eggman getting in over either of them. I'm not against it, but I don't see it happening.

I get it, but I think one difference is Eggman doesn't have the Smash requests going for him. I would rather have Eggman then Shadow. And while I still prefer Tails. If Eggman got in instead I'd understand. But if you looked at Brawl modding sites, Shadow mods were usually the most popular implying the one thing many want in Smash was Shadow as at least an alt of Sonic or more. And Tails had that Melee EGM April Fools prank that might of helped fuel Sonic's support for Brawl and in turn may have started a not as loud, but still there support for Tails to come in eventually as well, plus the though of Mario & Luigi Vs. Sonic & Tails. Two of the most famous videogame duos.

Shadow has been an assist trophy since Brawl, which while I think it was mainly because he was easy to make since he's a clone of the timer item just without the chance of backfiring it's still a little reflective of his popularity in some ways. And Tails got a Mii costume (Which has shown to bear fruit for some characters already, not every costume will obviously. But a decent amount have at least got an upgraded role even if they're not playable) alongside Knuckles who the latter of which has already been upgraded to an Assist. Shadow being an echo, Knuckles being an AT, and Tails getting nothing would be weird. Even if it has to wait til' DLC for Tails to get here.

I mean no disrespect to Eggman, just he may fit better at least for his first major appearance outside of just being a trophy in Brawl and Smash 4 that he could be a fun boss along the likes of Dracula if there are more 3rd party villains you face in that mode.

On the topic of whether or not Nintendo is running out of first party character additions for Smash Bros., I won't lie, the pool is quite obviously smaller than it used to be. That being said, the pool is far from non-existent. It's still a pool, after all, and not a puddle. It may not be an Olympic-sized swimming pool, but it's still a small-scale suburban above-ground pool to be sure.

Analogies aside, I figured I'd just use this as a jumping off point to talk about some Nintendo-owned characters that I'd personally like to see added in the future, whether it be in Ultimate as DLC or in future games. Note that it isn't necessarily an exhaustive list of viable, non-bottom-of-the-barrel Nintendo newcomers, but just some of my preferred picks. There are just some franchises I'm not itching to get a newcomer for, but very well could, like Kirby or Xenoblade Chronicles. As well, not all viable newcomers for a series will be mentioned. Once again, they're just my preferred picks. I'll also leave out retro characters entirely, as they're chosen for completely different reasons.

One big one is the Super Mario franchise. Yeah, it has a lot of characters in Smash already (especially when including folks like Yoshi and Wario), but it's literally Nintendo's biggest video game franchise (though it's beaten out as a multimedia franchise by Pokémon). Like it or not, you have to admit...Mario's C-Listers are much bigger deals than most franchises' A-Listers.

Though currently disconfirmed for Ultimate (but hey, maybe DLC), Captain Toad is absolutely a big deal. Toads in general are pop culture icons to a degree to which most characters on the roster dream of reaching. As well, there is Waluigi, controversial as he may be to some. People like to use the "spin-off exclusive" argument, but it truly doesn't matter. You're lying to yourself if you think Waluigi isn't iconic. The Mario Kart franchise alone eclipses most other Nintendo franchises multiple times over, to say nothing of the other sports and party titles.

As well, Luigi's Mansion itself could provide future newcomers. The franchise is more than viable now, having soon-to-be three main series titles, an upcoming remake of the first title, and an arcade spin-off made by Capcom. I don't think it's too far fetched to think a character like Professor E. Gadd (perhaps as a duo of sorts with Polterpup?) or King Boo could make for compelling a newcomer in the future.

For Donkey Kong Country, there are still quite a few characters who could work well in Smash. Dixie Kong could work either as a Diddy semi-clone, or as a full newcomer with a grappling moveset using her hair. Funky Kong is also incredibly popular, and could be added as a somewhat easy Donkey Kong semi-clone with a much more bodacious take on the great ape's moveset, all while doing some radical surfboard tricks for aerials. Plus, Flame Runner Final Smash. Do it, Sakurai.

I'll admit I'm not the biggest fan of The Legend of Zelda. I like it well enough, but outside of Link's Awakening, the franchise has never grabbed me to any meaningful extent. That being said, there is one type of character I'd definitely love to see in Smash from Zelda, and that's a Goron character, like Daruk. Gorons are an incredibly recurring Zelda race, and are so visually different from the rest of the current Zelda fighters. Add onto that another good super-heavyweight contender and a good reason to finally add a Death Mountain stage, and Daruk could just be really neat, I think. He's the Goron Champion, after all. Plus his trailer could have a stinger at the end of him running away from Duck Hunt, Wolf, and Isabelle.

Of course, Pokémon is a huge deal. I've been a Pokémon fan for basically my entire life, but I fully acknowledge the fact that a lot of my favorites (Chandelure, Marowak, Klefki, Ribombee, Qwilfish, Castform, etc) stand no chance at ever being included due to not being from the most recent generation. Granted, I'm still always excited to see whatever new Pokémon gets added in each game. Hell, Greninja was an amazing surprise last time due to being my Kalosian starter of choice. Pokémon will always be a hype bringer, and like Xenoblade and Fire Emblem, not keeping a static cast means there will always be characters to add without feeling excessive or undeserved.

Like Pokémon, Fire Emblem is a franchise that gets steady releases but lacks a static cast, meaning there are always characters to add without feeling tacked on. Once again like Pokémon, I know a lot of my favorites will likely never get added due to not being main lords (Merric, Tiki, Minerva, Hardin, Virion, Tobin, Mae, Silque, Saber...the list goes on for a while). That being said, Celica is a character I'd love to see, and is currently my most wanted character that isn't yet playable. Smash has kind of shown a disproportionate amount of love to Gaiden in the past anyway, and with Shadows of Valentia having been a success, I wouldn't rule her out just yet. Plus then I'd have my three favorite lords in Smash: Chrom, Celica, and Marth.

Though, I also wouldn't completely rule out Caeda. She doesn't have a huge shot, but I wouldn't call her odds completely non-existent. She's not the main lord of her games (Marth is), but she's incredibly important to the Archanea saga and is incredibly well liked among the fanbase. Plus, Lucina is a Lord in name only in Awakening anyway, so there's some leeway. Pegasus Knights are also one of the most iconic classes in the franchise, and Caeda is arguably the single most iconic one. Plus I mean hey, we'd get Cherami Leigh to voice a character in Smash, and that's a great bonus.

As a franchise, Punch-Out!! doesn't get a lot of newcomer discussion, sadly. However, the series offers some neat options to join the fight alongside Little Mac. Personally, I'd love it if Glass Joe, one of gaming's most iconic jobbers, were to get in as Smash's total joke fighter, more than even Pichu. He'd be added as a Little Mac echo, with his gangly physique and poor posture making him hunch over, keeping him in line with Mac's body size. However, there is one key difference: he's a balanced Little Mac. That's right, he's just as bad on the ground as he is in the air.

Finally, as far as new franchises are concerned, as much as I'd love to see Code Name: S.T.E.A.M. or The Legendary Starfy get characters, that is probably a pipe dream at this point. That being said, two new franchises stand out to me as far as being good additions: Rhythm Heaven and ARMS. Characters like the Chorus Kids and Spring Man would be worthwhile additions, and by no means scraping the bottom of the barrel.

So all in all, those are the Nintendo additions I can see future Smash games adding that have chances that at least exist, and are additions that I'd personally like. A shallower pool is still a pool, after all. But obviously I'm more than content with the current offerings. I've got Chrom now, after all.

For Mario, no kidding. Let's not forget that thanks to Odyssey, Pauline's fans are more than eager than ever to see her in more Mario stuff now. Her appearance as a background character in New Donk City stage won't do anything to affect their passion. Then there's Birdo, the only missing SMB2 icon left after Toad. The gobs of missing Wario characters go without saying.

For Luigi's Mansion, I can say that King Boo is likely enough. As for E.Gadd, a bit more uncertain, but the possibility of him using a Poltergust-based moveset is there (especially with all the sucking-based fighters we have in here ).

For Donkey Kong, apart from missing DK Crew members (including a goofy orangutan that's popular in the ballot), Cranky is also a popular pick. Not as much as Funky, but people really like the idea of having the original DK pull cane pogo maneuvers on youngin' all-stars.

For Punch-Out, besides Joe, I could see boxers like King Hippo, Super Macho Man and Mr. Sandman join the fight.

Finally, for ARMS, besides Spring Man and Ribbon Girl, having its resident villain Dr. Coyle is a must.

Personally, I leave my cord plugged into the Internal USB port, and just attach the controller to it whenever I need to give it a charge. You can also play with it wirelessly, both with the Switch docked and in handheld mode. I use my Switch in handheld mode a lot, so I can confirm this.

- Again, I don’t know if this has already been seen elsewhere, but when playing Pokemon Trainer, you can select which Pokemon you start out with.

Yeah, that was possible in Brawl as well.

For me it'd be either Melee's Adventure Mode, Brawl's Subspace Emmisary, or Smash 4's Smash Run. Because all 3 of those modes were great single player content.

If I may ask, why do you think Splatoon is so great? I'm interested in the games.

I love Splatoon for a lot of reasons. The gameplay is delightfully refreshing given the genre, the artstyle and overall aesthetic appeals to me, the music is great, and the lore and characters are surprisingly interesting and a ton of fun. To go a little more in-depth, though...:

I absolutely adore the gyro aiming. It's just so intuitive, and is probably the best control scheme for any shooter I've played, only topped by mouse and keyboard. I feel like Splatoon's mechanics really help it stand out, especially when you consider all the different weapon types that are mixed with those mechanics. Each weapon makes me feel like I'm playing a different class with their own unique play styles, and it gets even deeper than that when you realize each weapon type has dozens of variations, practically giving you subclasses to play with. Mixing the gear you wear for abilities and choosing the weapon that is the class you like but also containing the sub weapons and specials that suit you is really fun to me, as I'm someone who's always enjoyed variety and light min-maxing.

Another thing I love about the game is the fact the singleplayer is actually pretty darn great if your someone that enjoys tightly designed levels and creative platforming. Octo Expansion especially really hits home how fantastic the game's mechanics are and how creative you can get with them, giving you a variety of challenges that while difficult, are fair and very satisfying to complete. Not to mention this game offers you multiple weapon choices for these levels, giving fantastic replayability, as different weapons means different strategies and solutions to the level's puzzles and challenges. The writing is also great in these single player modes, with each character having super fun personalities and quirky humor that rivals the likes of Paper Mario IMO.

I could probably write a book on why I love Splatoon, so I'll just end off here before the post gets a little too long, lol. Hope this helps explain why I love the series as much as I do.

Combination of all 3 I'd argue, with the Sakurai quote recently.

Vergeben leaks cemented certain characters in people's minds due to him getting previous smash leaks correct.
Isabelle showed that it wasn't just fan favorite characters getting in but also more recent big names.
Placeholder box and the Sakurai quote made people expect less, as it's very unlikely Sakurai is going to drop 8+ characters or whatever in a direct, even if some of them are echoes.

Board the Platforms Adventure Mode, though I'd make it a cross between Melee and SSE with a different story. I enjoyed the franchise-based levels and in-engine cutscenes (though I also enjoy rendered cutscenes) of Melee and the storymode content of Brawl.
