Well, I think he's cool. I also love Dark-types, so I have a bias. Probably in my top 5 for starters, alongside Greninja, Decidueye, Sceptile and Blaziken.

For some Pokémon talk, here's this:

This guy had an idea I've had for years: what if each character was a Pokémon, what would their typing be? The Pokémon are soooooo obvious, though.

I have a few changes to make here.
Corrin really, REALLY should be Water/Dragon.
I think K. Rool should be Water/Rock. Either that or Water/Dark. Given that he is a pirate themed crocodile, I think Water should be in there somewhere. Dark could represent K. Rool's position as a villain while Rock could describe his gold belly, although Steel might be a better fit then.
The Dragon typing fits Bowser and Jr. a little more, but I think Fire/Rock is just as fitting of a typing.
I think Fighting/Normal would fit the three Links better since not only does it represent their heroism, but it also acts as an interesting parallel to Ganondorf's typing.
I think Simon and Richter should also be Fighting/Normal.
Wolf should be Dark/Normal.
I also think Chrom, Lucina, and Marth should be Steel/Fighting for the same reasons as Link. The Steel typing represents their sword while Fighting, see Link for reason.
I really like this idea, though.

I think an even better challenge would be to come up with a Pokémon-based moveset for each character (4 moves).

it looks like a knockoff tony the tiger and at least here in the west, everyone prefers the other starters. and if that godawful box theory pans out, then incineroar being the last newcomer will probably doom it to corrin-level of divisiveness, at least until dlc hits.

The thing with Incineroar is that he/she:
1) Provides unique gameplay potential, one that at its extreme is not present in Smash
2) Plays at least a semi-important role in the Sun & Moon anime
3) Is easily recognizable from Sun & Moon as the final evolution of 1 of the 3 Pokemon you can choose from at the beginning of the game

It's not like starters are a bad choice. This game is a mascot fighter. You don't really pick random off the wall characters just because. When it comes to Pokemon, Game Freak isn't going to say to Sakurai, "Listen, pick whatever Pokemon you want! We don't care that it's not a recent generation, or that we don't include that particular Pokemon in any of our advertisements. Just pick whatever!"

Now, that would be fine because Sakurai and his team are creative enough to make unthinkable things incredibly enjoyable. But there's quite literally no advantage to adding a random Gen 1 Pokemon at this point if you're Game Freak/The Pokemon Company. You have 2 mainline games that a Gen 7 Pokemon connects to, as well as the new anime that a decent part of the consumer base that will buy Smash might watch. It's a cohesive plan to maintain appearances of particular characters.

Greninja wasn't on pretty much anyones radar prior to being revealed. He got picked because his design was unique, and Sakurai looked at him as an interesting fighter. At least, that's what I assume. Being a starter isn't a reason they're picked on Sakurai's end, but it probably is something that Game Freak and the Pokemon Company think about.

I think the only reason we don't have say, Blaziken is because of timing of the Smash games. I'd also like more creative fighters, like Darkrai or something, but that wouldn't really mesh with what Game Freak is probably trying to do.

Speculation has slowed down a lot lately.

We are getting closer to release, we have leaks telling us who the potential unrevealed fighters are, and a lot of crazy debates of theories, etc.

I think we’re in the “wait and see” era. We don’t really know what we’re in for, when are next info dump is going to be, and who the newcomers really are, and we’re waiting on when Ken is going to get shown off because he’s the only one to be safely a guarantee due to his image leak to boot. There isn’t much discussion to be had without talking about the same characters or things over and over again.

The thing that really bothers me is Sakurai’s statement on them “slowing down” the pace of reveals, instead of giving us character reveals as we go on. Although we did get a lot of stuff in the span of 1 month, we only have like 2 months left before release, how do you slow down when there isn’t much time to do so?

My guess Sakurai is going to reveal the new characters in groups rather than a solo reveal, with Isabelle as an exception because she was tieing into a Animal Crossing tease. A direct will most inevitably come, having at least 2 fighters reveals with some echoes.

this has far too many Notmal types. I would change:
Mario/Luigi - Pure Fire
DK - Don't see why normal type.
all Links - Steel/Fighting
Peach/Daisy - Grass/Fairy. Fungi is associated with grass type, and daisy straight out has plant theme
Sheik - Dark seems more Appropiate for a Ninja
G&W - Normal i think
Disagree with other people here. Steel/Flying is right for Meta Knight
Zero Suit - Pure Electric.
Rosalina - Fairy/Psychic
Palutena -Fairy/Flying
Robin - to me Pshychic feels more right than fairy
Corrin - Water/Dragon
Ridley - Definetly Dragon/Dark
Simon/Richter - Fighting and/or Steel i think
Dark Samus - Should have Poison as one of its types.

While the leaks for it are probably fake, October 16th is the date I’m betting on for the next Smash Direct. A month after Isabelle and a month and half until launch, the perfect time to dump the last largest bits of info on us. I don’t believe Box Theory and so I still think Incineroar, Ken, Shadow and Elma are most likely to be shown off in this presentation. Then Geno and anybody else left behind may get special reveals of their own.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this month only gives us a Robin/Lucina reveal of a single trailer, but at the same time doubt the Direct will be in November as Nintendo will want to focus their resources on promoting the new Pokemon titles.

not a fact, just a basic observation. back when incineroar was leaked, his design was the one that got the most flack because lol another bipedal fire starter. the dark typing and his animations and personality won some people back but he really isn't the trailblazing popular choice that his fans are trying to turn him into. i blame it on the fact that gen 7 has so many cool designs that outshine incineroar. maybe in another gen, he would be way more popular.

Also, out of curiosity, a lot of people seemed dissapointed by the Isabelle reveal, and I don’t really understand why. Isabelle is full of character and all around wholesome, so why do so many people not like her?

I've seen more people complaining about people being "upset" with Isabelle in Smash than I've actually seen people complaining about her being in Smash.

I'd add Fighting type for Marth, Ike and the Belmonts, because Fighting type in Japan isn't just for Martial Arts. but also for characters who can be classified as heroic or honorable. Marth and Ike are regarded as heroes, and the Belmonts have made it their mission to stop Dracula for mankind.

Most people assumed that Isaac unintentionally offending people is why they delayed it. It's still much less awkward than the fact that the disaster happened after the way 's tease ended the Sakurai portion of the last Smash direct.

Still, using a natural disaster where many people died, as an excuse for your character being in, is very disrespectful... The Animal Crossing announcement basically confirmed that Isabelle was meant to be the character announced from the Direct at the start... I highly doubt that Isaac is in the game, Being a fan favorite is one thing, but not having a game in 8 years is another (Camelot seems to have no intent on revitalizing the series, and has turned it's focus back on Mario Sports Games)... (K. Rool got in because his franchise was still alive already represented, and because he was very likely the true winner of the ballot). Not all the characters in this game are gonna be fan favorites, you know? *Cough* Inkling
