Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

Incineroar won't be dlc, no one would pay for him. I mean I would but no one else would.

If for some reason Incineroar isn't in the base roster we're getting a Gen 8 Pokemon as dlc instead. Calling it now.
What is up with all the Inciniroar hate? I think he’s really cool. Is it jus5 because people want a grass type character?

I don't know. We MIGHT get a Smash direct this month. It might not talk about newcomers, but maybe it's the right time to talk about that secret mode that they've been hiding from us. That's what I'm hoping for, at least.

People aint too hot on the "humanoid fire animal that punches you in the face" idea again. Plus, people are kinda miffed he'd get in regardless if fans wanted him or not.

I don't want two starters and three anthros in a row.

I wasn’t big on him until I realized he might be able to hit people with flaming tables.

I can't speak for everyone, but for me in a limited roster, a Pokemon rep for the sake of a Pokemon rep is disappointing. Presumably the reason why we're having a limited roster is to make room for returning veterans, so they technically "count" as newcomers--and we have two (Pichu, Pokemon Trainer), the latter technically being three characters. So really any Pokemon rep is disappointing to me, because it feels out of necessity rather than anything special, and the fact we have a fire type like Charizard back makes Incineroar feel redundant (Greninja's grandfathered in, and Incineroar being a wrestler does nothing for me). If I had to pick, I would have picked Lycanroc for something--different.

However, hopefully when I see Incineroar's newcomer trailer I'm pleasantly surprised.

Trust me. When you see him mash someone's face in with a flaming chair you'll understand.

Rider's Sonic Design was the best one and should have been a mainstay. No need to Quote me on this, you know deep in your heart I'm right.

I love Incineroar he's awesome! I just think I hold an unpopular opinion...
Well, I think he's cool. I also love Dark-types, so I have a bias. Probably in my top 5 for starters, alongside Greninja, Decidueye, Sceptile and Blaziken.

For some Pokémon talk, here's this:

This guy had an idea I've had for years: what if each character was a Pokémon, what would their typing be? The Pokémon are soooooo obvious, though.

In terms of Pokemon, I think we're vastly underestimating the power of The Pokemon Company and Game Freak. As a second party, Game Freak has plenty of say over the options that Sakurai has.

We need to stop treating Sakurai as some godlike game developer that does whatever he wants. He has limitations. If you don't think he was given options that he had to choose from, then I would argue he was. I certainly don't believe he's given the option to pick out of over 800 Pokemon. If you're Game Freak and the Pokemon Company, of COURSE you would want a Pokemon from the newest generation. You're not going to randomly drop Gothitelle (heh) in there.

Incineroar is not just a fire-type brawler, either. That's grossly undermining what makes him different. He'd be a grappler. That IS different from say, Mario, otherwise known as the most basic moveset in the entirety of Smash. Granted, I think the thing with Incineroar is that people are frustrated that they didn't pick a Pokemon they would rather have. That's fine and dandy. But just because they may or may not have picked Lycanroc over Incineroar doesn't mean that Incineroar is by default a bad choice.

That's all opinion anyway. While I originally was an advocate for Decidueye, I've come around to actually liking the concept of Incineroar. I still like the idea of Decidueye, and I used to dislike the idea of Incineroar. But Incineroar has quite the potential to be fun.

I'm sure people will sing a different tune once Incineroar is revealed, IF he's in the game.

Pfft... we are more likely to get shirtless Mario and Link over something like "Unmasked Metaknight". Not even Project M did this.
Speaking of, I don't think we will ever see Mr. L outside Project M.

I don't like his design at all, and I'm very tired of "here's the new generation's starter!" We only have four non-starters - Jigglypuff, Mewtwo, Pichu, and Lucario (three if you count Pichu under Pikachu's banner) - and not a single one has been brought in since Brawl. Pokemon is ripe for potential with unorthodox body types (e.g. Ludicolo), strange concepts (e.g. Muk), ingeniously bizarre moveset potential (e.g. every normal-type gen 1 pokemon with their TM aceptance), or all (e.g. Rotom). Big fire cat wrestler kind of falls to the bottom of the list in all three categories.

I feel like Kirby would be fairy type, Dedede Fairy/Flying and Meta Knight Fairy/Steel. The Kirby cast look like fairy types.

Ridley is Dragon/Dark.

Rosalina should be Fairy/Psychic, she gives me a Gardevoir vibe and Pychic types are usually associated with space.

Why is K Rool rock type?

Pretty much agreed. Randomly saying Gothitelle would be in the game did raise a few flags for me. And Sakurai does have his limitations.

At this point I'll be a little sad if we don't get Incineroar. Litten was my favorite SuMo starter and I usually main wrestlers in fighting games so I see myself having a ton of fun with a grappler character.

Also, the only costume I want more than any at this point is Symphony of the Night Richter. Give me those luscious locks and that overcoat, Sakurai, You know you want to.

True. But then again. We can’t just pull random fighters like garbodor out of our pockets. Game freak is going to want to pick the most popular and relevant characters.

For King K. Rool, honestly not sure. Probably his environment or something. I don't get it too much either. Wolf, however, should be Dark/Normal. It only makes sense.

Honestly, my ideal pick for a SuMo rep is Guzma. I don't mind what Pokemon he has, just give me ya boi. It's why I throw my support towards Golisopod. The possibility of Team Skull's battle themes in Smash excites me.

Now, Guzma with Incineroar, totally out of canon but man that'd be fun.

I know we can't (and it sucks), but I do wish it was something other than a starter. Lucario was pretty much a completely random pick if you ignore his marketing push. He wasn't a starter, he wasn't a legendary, he wasn't integral to the plot, and yet not only has he managed to get into a fighting game alongside the likes of Mario and Kirby, but he's now been in a majority of the Smash games. I'd much rather see another success like that than our sixth starter Pokemon.

There are a few changes I would make...
Kirby: Fairy/Normal
Deeded: Fairy/Flying
Meta Knight: Normal/Dark
Wolf: Normal/Dark

Well, gold is found underground and K Rool has gold body armor. That could be the reason.

Or maybe it's because the Gangplank Galleon remix rocks.

Goodness, I completely forgot about ya boi. In all honesty, as cool as that would be, I don’t think it should happen. The trainer we have now is a good representation of the Pokemon franchise as a whole, so adding characters like Guzma, even as alts would seem a bit odd. I think a male and female Pokemon Trainer is pretty good.

I think the chose Lucario because he was Popular and Relevent. They probably chose Inciniroar because he’s popular and Relevant. Not because he’s a starter

Which means they'd go for the Pokemon that got its own special form for Ash.

Fox and Falco would be Fire & Fire/Flying respectively.
And Snake would be Fire/Steel (Solid Snake)
And Ryu would be Fighting/Dragon
Lastly...there's a LOT of Normal types in your list that I don't think necessarily are accurate

Yeah, I know, but my point was that that was the only thing Lucario had going for it, it's otherwise just another Pokemon in a pool of 800 others. Incineroar is much more cemented in Pokemon history as a starter's final evo.
