Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

This is so bad. I can't even begin to explain how irrationally angry this stagelist makes m. There is so many flaws and so much missed potential with this. why???
I mean, I agree. No Brawl Yoshis, man. I miss that stage so much.

This is the safe stage pick system and, unfortunately, will likely be the adopted ruleset for the future of this game. I'm actually kinda upset. I understand logistics and stuff like that, but... Damn...

I've said this before but, from what I understand, it's only the orchestrated versions of the music he seems to have problems with. If all Smash used was the MIDI versions, then I don't think the man would care too much. At least, that's what it sounds like to me going by what I've heard about him and the whole situation surrounding the issue.

And if the man really proved to be a problem, they could just use music from "Dragon Quest Swords". I hear he didn't compose the music for that game, and from what I can tell, it sounds identical to DQ's usual style. The problem could easily be solved by just pulling music from that game and being done with it. Sure, it wouldn't be the most iconic tracks from the series, but it'd get the job done.
Do you really think he'd let Japan have only the MIDI versions though?

Noivern was a prominent Pokemon in the game, so here's hoping one of my number one favorites shows up in the movie.
I'm so glad that they didn't restrict themselves to Gen 1. Seeing Greninja really threw me off so I'm glad I'm seeing the love for other gens. The film looks pretty connected to its source material and there's a bunch of references, so I'm 1000% excited for this film.

Plus that shoutout to Sinnoh was a huge plus for me.

lightdrago lightdrago Have you noticed in your sig that the middle hair spike is the only one that twirls.. weird!
I didn't and now it bothers me why must you do this

Hey guys I'm awake now so what'd I miss-OH ARCEUS THEY FINALLY RELEASED A DETECTIVE PIKACHU TRAILER.

Why...why are they all so hideous? Oh gosh Charizard what did they do to you? Pokemon are supposed to be lovable and charming, even the "scary ones". But these things are abominations. How could TPC let this happen?

Why is Mr.Mime of all things the least creepy of all the pokemon!?
I don't think the movie will be very good, but I'm still interested in it since I'm a Pokemon fan and I'm happy they included many Pokemon outside of just Gen 1 such as Greninja.

I'm going to hope that with Ultimate's release and more hands on time with the game we get some changes as more things are found out.

Some of these exclusions are just baffling to me, but they no doubt spent a lot of time debating it.

Really? I thought they looked awesome. I thought they found a good mix between real and cartoonish. Sure, I didn't expect the fur on many of them, but I find their designs appealing regardless. Charizard looks badass, Greninja looks cool as hell, and Pikachu is freaking cute.

I hope to see my bois Torterra and Lucario appear.
I think you can pencil in Lucario as guaranteed. Nintendo seems to promote him in everything, regardless of whether or not it makes sense.

Don't think it was posted yet. Xanadu released its ruleset for Smash Ultimate, which includes a stagelist:

People talking about switching hazards on and off would be too much hassle

Oh my, a whole THREE EXTRA button presses, the horror.

I'm not huge on the competitive scene, why are "dupe stages" like hazards-off FoD and Yoshi's Island not allowed?
Because they're just Battlefield without them, the bottom 2 platforms on FoD don't sink and Randall/the Shy Guys don't show up on Yoshi's

Definitely. My hope in him dwindled but that was the moment it really died.
Seriously.

**** the Grinch leak tbh and if it was MTP, it was right up his ally to be a **** to millions of people.

I am 100% satisfied with ultimates roster but its the "so close yet so far" feeling that bothers me. It completely sucks that those characters aren't unlockable with the rest of the cast.

Almost glad I don't visit Xanadu anymore, what a bunch of hacks. For god's sake, we have so many perfectly viable legal stages now, and we get THIS? They've practically neutered it from the get-go. Granted, it's much nicer than the selection available in Smash 4, but come on guys, you're out of your minds if you're just going to say no to Fountain of Dreams, both of the reasonable Yoshi stages, hazardless Brinstar, and a few others.

(At least it's hazardless Lylat)

Yeah, now that I'm looking around at what everyone else thinks I'm really surprised I'm not seeing more of a negative reaction to this. They all just don't look right to me. Maybe some of them will grow on me (I kind of doubt it), but I'm probably never going to like their depiction of Charizard or those terrifying Greninjas.

The Mr.Mime scene actually got a grin out of me, but I honestly think there's a good chance I'll give this film a pass.

If Kingdom Hearts remixes/music isn't possible, then the other SE series getting music is out of the question lol, especially Dragon Quest and its political-mess composer.

There is ZERO reasons why FoD isn't legal and Lylat is.
Brinstar is another fantastic choice for a counterpick.
Dream Land is always amazing.
PS1 is a great counterpick.
Rainbow Cruise is another great counterpick hazardless.

What in the absolute ****

I mean I expected a conservative stage list from the Smash players but like

come on guys. You don't even have Dream Land, Fountain of Dreams or Yoshi's Story (unless they're grouped with Battlefield). And Unova League has the same layout as Kalos League...

And no Pokemon Stadium 1...

ugh...

Tbh...we often forget Pokemon are actual monsters. They're just so anime-fied we forget.

I personally love it.

I think so, yeah. I don't think games like the "Dragon Quest Heroes" series suddenly had full orchestrated versions of the music in japan. I'm pretty sure it was the MIDI tracks no matter where you were playing it.

A screen tester on Reddit says that every "major" Pokemon makes an appearance, so Lucario is definitely in. The trailer even has Morelull and Comfey, so there are gonna be a few Gen 7 mons too. And just look at all the references in this poster:

pokemon-detective-pikachu-1-1.jpg

All the berry sprites, berry juice, MooMoo Milk, "Mr. Mime, one night only", "J. Puff Records", "Unova Style Pizza", even a Pokemon Snap reference! Say what you will, but at least these people know about Pokemon. There's also "M2" graffiti on that dumpster, so I'm guessing Mewtwo is at the end of the movie.

Worst part in my opinion is the Sudden Death rule. That rule made sense when you could ledge camp Sudden Death but you can't do that anymore and now you have to fight. The issue was you could too easily stall Sudden Death and it was beneficial to do so. Now that's not an opinion. At a minimum tournaments should actually use Sudden Death (as the game intends) until a real issue is discovered it it. But for some reason the community can't adapt to a new game. I feel like they love Sirlin's Play to Win when it agrees with their ideas but throw it away when it doesn't.

Can you get me some confirmation on this? From what I understand, yes, they actually did. Sorry for any trouble.

They're monsters and yet Pikachu still looks adorable.

Only thing that was weird to me was Charizard looking furry when I always imagined him as having a more smooth, lizard-like body.

FoD and yoshi's are so vastly different in terms of stage size and blast zones.
I'm not the one making the rules, if I were they would be legal because they're classic tourney stages.
Hope y'all are ready for 4 more years of Smashville.

I mean, a quick look tells me 4chan has a mostly negative reaction to this for what that’s worth.

Also as for Xanadu, exactly what I expected. Just a blanket HAZARDS BAD ALWAYS OFF mentality without actually considering them.

To me, the freakiest looking one is Jigglypuff (even then it's not that bad to me), but the little pout and glare it does is so cute and a great reference that I give it a pass. I could do with less fur, but it's still undeniably Jigglypuff.

Plus, look at Bulbasaur and Morelull! They look so pretty.

I apologize for my anger and somewhat spam on this issue but we had the potential for such a good stagelist. This honestly infuriates me and reminds me of a lot of disappointing changes that were made back when I played competitive Pokemon
