Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

Ridley and K. Rool are the main antagonists of their respective series which are still alive. Golden Sun has been dead for a long time. I'm sure Isaac is popular, but no where near the level of those two.
Not as popular? He's among the Big Five along with the two you said, Geno and Banjo.

To me, the freakiest looking one is Jigglypuff, but the little pout and glare it does is so cute and a great reference that I give it a pass. I could do with less fur, but it's still undeniably Jigglypuff.

Plus, look at Bulbasaur and Morelull! They look so pretty.

Those Bulbasaur are precious babies.

Bulbasaur is the best first stage gen 1 starter, Charizard is the best stage 3 gen 1 starter. Don't @ me.

Honestly, with all that few stages on legal list, it won't be worth it to watch the ultimate tournament. That ruleset needs some consideration to be changed very much. Stages that were considered as Battlefield style is not good idea for such ruleset, there's so much stages to choose as legal. Xanadu must be fun for thinking that reusing same ruleset as smash 4's will work on ultimate WITH ****ING MANY STAGES TO CHOOSE FROM AS LEGAL STAGES.

Gonna be honest, giving a clear view of them just makes them look worse to me. Complete uncanny valley territory.

My only guess is because the fans were upset that his assist trophy was gone in smash 4 so he decided to add it back since he thought the fans wanted the assist trophy back (even though we know they didn't)
Would had been better if he was playable. Isaac is probably the only character that I didn't support that I feel should had been in the game since it only would had been fair due to us K. Rool fans.

Honestly what irks me is how they kept it for so long. All this discussion and speculation only for him to be revealed as an assist at the last minute. Should had done it since the beginning, it would had saved the Isaac fans the trouble of not being bummed.

A screen tester on Reddit says that every "major" Pokemon makes an appearance, so Lucario is definitely in. The trailer even has Morelull and Comfey, so there are gonna be a few Gen 7 mons too. And just look at all the references in this poster:

All the berry sprites, berry juice, MooMoo Milk, "Mr. Mime, one night only", "J. Puff Records", "Unova Style Pizza", even a Pokemon Snap reference! Say what you will, but at least these people know about Pokemon. There's also "M2" graffiti on that dumpster, so I'm guessing Mewtwo is at the end of the movie.
Ooh, I wonder what else counts as a "major" Pokemon. I can def see Mew and/or Mewtwo appearing. Maybe Incineroar'll even be in due to GameFreak's love of him for Gen 7.

I hope to god there are PMD references. Even a Conquest or Ranger one will make me happy.

And can someone find me a mobile background for that poster without the release date thank you very much

People talking about switching hazards on and off would be too much hassle

Oh my, a whole THREE EXTRA button presses, the horror.
Funny what is going on with this conversation about competitive smash..

because Florida still refuses to accurately count ballots for the midterm elections.

I can speak more on this, please DM me. THAT is what is atrocious. Refusing to count legitimate ballots.

I've seen way worse online, so I appreciate how these Pokemon don't make me vomit whenever I look at them.
Have you heard about Apokelypse?

That edgy thing is why i hate Live-action Pokémon as a whole.

I think i remember what I didnt like about smogon looking at these rules.
Lol no, Smogonites normally tested things before banning them unless they were blatantly broken. And once they even dropped Kyurem down from Ubers when it turned out it wasn't as broken as it looked. The only reason Smogon rules ban so much is because Pokemon is a horribly, horribly unbalanced game, not because they're super conservative and never willing to take risks.

Well since the alternative for Puff is to make it a ball of flesh, I'd rather it have fur

Mewtwo was in the game, so it's probably guaranteed to show up.

The Brazilian community released a stage list last week and they had a fantastic concept that allowed for many stages with a simplified format.

Keep the usual 5 starter thing. But there's like 30 counterpicks. Loser picks 3 stages from that pool, winner strikes 1 and loser picks one of the last two to go to.

Takes all of 40 seconds to pick the stage which is perfect.

I saw Apokelypse. As a kid I adored it. To see one on the big screen with way better looking Pokemon and a less darker but still somewhat mature plot fills my heart with joy.

I would love that. They would make bank on this series why has nobody thought of this?

Of course, there's the anime, but I could never find the full series beyond the first episode...

While Smogon is often fair, and their bans are very often needed, I do find some choices questionable. But you are very correct, they do test before they make a legal list.

I can kind of see your point.

I’ll think about the Detective Pikachu movie the next days.

And a Mystery Dungeon movie would be cool too.

To be fair. I want to see legendary pokemon making its appearance in the detective pokemon (I'm referring to mewtwo but on sweet cake to see Ho-oh or lugia)

Still waiting to see if they can confirm there's other live action pokemon film setting in same universe.

I think we will probably have to wait for a sequel for most of the Gen 7 mons sadly, although if Jigglypuff has a record company or whatever, then maybe Primarina makes a cameo. And this movie is gonna do well, so there's almost definitely gonna be a sequel.

It's honestly way too early to make any sort of stage list. Don't we need to like, experiment with them all first?

Testing seems to be a concept that is foreign to competitive Smash.

Yes, which is what other competitive communities do. Smash likes to turn things off and forgets why they did in the first place. Same thing happened with Brawl. Items were banned mostly because of the exploding creates. You couldn't turn off containment items in Melee and they could always explode (Melee also had a bad habit of spawning stuff in front of you too). Brawl fixed that, so EVO, thinking like other fighting games, made a list of items legal. When players complained, Mr Wizard basically said "Have you tested it." The answer was always no and most of their rebuttals were theorycraft. For the most part, items were actually really good for Brawl and Item Standard Play had some interesting results (with many bad characters benefiting heavily).

The reason things are banned are always forgotten. It's the same complaint I have with the Sudden Death rule (which, again, needs to die now that Ultimate fixed the problem). The way a logical community would deal with it is to set standards for what stages could be legal, what should be a counter pick, and what should be banned. Then, make the list. There should be no reason the community can't come up with 10 legal stages and 20 counterpicks in a game with 100 stages.

I want to see a hyper-realistic Missingno., or I'll riot.
A giant glitch?
Again, I turn to the American voting system, or our current president. a giant glitch we thought we had avoided.
