Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

I think I found true form of Galeem!

/s I hope anyone gets the reference,
So what you're saying is that Smash Ultimate's gameplay will gradually get faster and faster and faster, until eventually the game resets and turns into a version of Smash 64 with all the characters except Kirby and Master Hand being poor-quality knock-offs?

All right, guys, pack it up, we've found our Smash Reboot.

man, you don't even know what he does

at least learn what characters do before ****ting on them
just to note i own persona 5. didnt get far in it but i do have it

i don't intrinsically hate the character, he just shouldn't be in smash bros. persona is way more attached to playstation as a brand (so much so its going to be on the psx mini). im not against an smt character since its a really big and iconic franchise, but i'd really prefer jack frost over any of the boring human/demi-human characters, sorry

Geno's unlikeliness:
-like everything else lol, who he's up against, the fact that he'd have to be DLC, Squenix not being cooperative, Nintendo calling the shots...

Paper Mario as well. He's not likely in any terms, I've come to terms with it lol
Remember that Nintendo pulled out some dollars out of their wallet for Final Fantasy and Square content on the Switch, and probably Square is indebted to them after Octopath Traveler and many other games. So looking at the list of games they have on the Switch, they have:
  • Final Fantasy VII
  • Final Fantasy IX
  • Final Fantasy X + X-2 HD Remaster
  • Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age
  • Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition HD
  • Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition
  • Everybuddy! Chocobo Dungeon
  • Octopath Traveler
  • Romancing SaGa 2
  • SaGa: Scarlet Grace
  • Lost Sphear
  • Secret of Mana Collection (Secret of Mana 1 + 2 + 3)
  • The World Ends with You: Final Remix
  • I Am Setsuna
  • Dragon Quest X
  • Dragon Quest XI S
  • Dragon Quest Builders
  • Dragon Quest Builders 2
  • Dragon Quest Heroes I & II for Nintendo Switch
I think if anything, Square and Nintendo wouldn't be THAT iffy of a negotiation for somebody like Geno, given this pretty damn good list.

so what does joker exactly do

cause there are few popular series I know less about
He's uses standing ghosts called "Persona" which let him use multiple spells, and attacks to find a "WEAK" hit (Based on elements) to dark persona's called Shadows (Weak hits make them stunned, which gives you an extra turn). He also has Baton Pass (An ability to pass a turn to their party member, making their turn overall stronger), uses guns for multiple hits (But weaker damage), and can do an "All-out" attack if you stunned all enemies in the field. Unlike other main characters in his series though, Joker is more of a speedster/trickster type than usually uses Shadow sneak to engage the enemy behind for a free hit.

Oh Geno would not be an issue to negotiate at all imho
The issue is IF either party would negotiate for him, which I doubt

What makes your most wanted newcomers likely and unlikely to be in Smash?
Skull Kid

+ Nintendo Character, pretty well known.
+ Potential for unique moveset, we don't have many pure magic users in Smash.
+ Zelda has had no new characters since Brawl, and no unique movesets since Melee.
+ Fan Favorite.

- Is an AT lol.
- Large Smash support only came fairly recently.
- Was only a focus in one game, with minor cameos otherwise.
- His main Final Smash (Dropping the Moon) is also an AT, but they could do something other than that so this is like a half negative.

Bandanna Dee

+ Nintendo Character, very popular.
+ No other spear users on the roster, would be something entirely unique.
+ Hasn't been seen AT ALL in Ultimate.
+ Large Smash support, probably did decently in the ballot.
+ Kirby's newest star, appearing as a main character in multiple games.

- Might not be DLC worthy in Nintendo's eyes.
- Potentially needs to compete with other larger third parties for a spot.

A PS4 costs money. Nocturne is on my emulating backlog somewhere.
True.
You really can't justify the purchase of a PS4 for just Persona 5...
Good thing it's on the PS3.

Also, outside of Persona 5 and the 3DS ones, I think all the Megaten games are currently emulateable.

What makes your most wanted newcomers likely and unlikely to be in Smash?
Skull Kid:

Likely:

-From an iconic Zelda game and he wears the iconic Mask which makes him iconic due to him being the personality.

Unlikely:

-He's an AT again and they seem to always stick with the Triforce-holders...

Geno:

-Pretty much what Luigi The President said.

Steve?:

Likely:

-Vergeben.
-Better Together stuff between Microsoft and Nintendo due to Minecraft.

Unlikely:

-Banjo-Kazooie may be chosen instead (which I'd be perfectly happy with and hyped for)

Banjo-Kazooie:

Likely:

-Vergeben's rumors of Minecraft content because that means Nintendo and Microsoft are striking a deal
-Phil Spencer seems to like them and would be okay with them in Smash Bros.

Unlikely:

-Vergeben's Minecraft content rumors again because we could get Steve? instead (which I'd also be hyped for but y'know).

Gengar:

Likely:

-He seems to be a popular Pokemon but idk

Unlikely:

-Well this is obvious given how the Pokemon newcomers are chosen so *shrug*

The Western side of Pop Star.
What makes your most wanted newcomers likely and unlikely to be in Smash?
Mainly the following for several of them:

+Are still liked by people even after they stopped showing up.
+Would provide creative movesets, or have gameplay that works.
+Their series, if it is included to begin with, still has room for more characters without skewing roster balance too much.

-Not the most requested choice.
-Series they're in is dead, and currently not planned to come back.
-Stopped appearing in the series they're from.
-Sakurai has to be in a position to fit them and/or afford them
-Not noticed too much on a global scale.

As per usual, I'd like to be proven wrong.

You wanna know where Dragon Ball is most popular? Latin America. When the finale of Dragon Ball Super was happening earlier this year, countries all over Latin America were organizing public streams of the episode with thousands of people attending. Mexico, Guatemala, Brazil, etc.

The Mexican government was actually sent a letter from the Japanese embassy in Mexico requesting that they suspend any illegal viewings of the episode. Yes, anime literally became a subject of international politics.
I remember that. It was about some issues about (mainly) malls getting permission to stream the episode. Not every place got the authorization and some were trying to pass the event anyway illegally.

Fun times were had and I even learn a few things about laws in the process.

Honestly, I'm pretty sure Square is still on their knees to the Big N after Octopath Traveler, and especially hitting that big one million sales count. Anything Nintendo would like Square would possibly oblige.

Twintelle -

Likely:
With Springman and AT and Ribbon Girl a Mii costume, she has a little less competition from her series. She's extremely popular in the game, to the point of Nintendo realizing this and putting her in the Test Punch early. She's unique, and if Nintendo gave a list of characters it's possible they suggested a character from one of their newest series.

Unlikely:
Everything I said is grasping at straws honestly :p
She's just not likely. Also the fact that Rex was "too late" if we are to understand Sakurai's comment about his Mii costume, then a new IP that came out the same year is probably also too late.

I'm honestly hoping for her, but in no way expecting her.
