Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

10/10 character.

I mean, if they made him work in Marvel vs. Capcom, I'm pretty sure Smash would be no challenge for Phoenix.
Yes and no. Moveset is easy, but items could be a bit of a problem. Is Wright going to accidentally shoot people? I'm not really a creative guy, so there are ways to solve it for sure, but Smash is very different from Marvel.

But when has Smash ever made the hypest reveals at the end? There is no precedent for such a conjecture.
They don't, that's not my point. I just believe that they should've spaced out the reveals more instead of revealing 5 characters in a direct towards the middle of the hype cycle.

I've never been a fan. I was mostly OK with them before I heard of Elma, I'm not a Xenoblade player, but she seems strictly better than them every way that matters to me.

Her design is clean, she has a ton of move-set potential, and she seems to actually have personality. As far as I can tell Rex doesn't have two out of those three things. Keep in mind this is just the ignorant thoughts of someone who never played a Xenoblade game.

I really dislike Pyra's....everything. Rex looks like a blank canvas anime character given sentience. Elma looks cool.

EDIT: I should be clear in saying I was "OK" with them because I assumed they were a shoe-in. No reason to be for or against something that is absolutely gonna happen ya know?
I'm going on record to say I also want Elma. Yeah, I obviously want Rex over Elma, if it came down to some arbitrary rule that says we won't get both, but I'm not anti-Elma.

Which is why I didn't say anything about movesets.

He aesthetically would look wrong to me.
a bit like a question i asked before but who do you think will be the worst character according to tiers in ssbu
I honestly don't think Ridley looks all that scary. His Nair seems to be the most threatening move in his kit, as far as I can tell.

His move that deals the absurd amount of damage is practically impossible to land outside of a shield break. His command grab is escapable. His Up-Special seems bad. His only special that has a ton of potential is his neutral fire balls but they take so much time to charge that even they seem underwhelming. Recovering onto the ledge against it as a character with bad recovery sounds obnoxious but otherwise Ridley's specials are meh.

His fair has potential for sure. Nair is solid. Down-air looks terrible but I gotta see the endlag before making a final opinion. I can't remember what his backair is at all. His upair is a mystery to me too come to think of it.

His Smashes are fine for what they are. His jab is fine. His tilts don't seem like much to write home about either.

Most of his gameplan seems to revolve around staying at a distance and mixing up between spaced fairs, tilts, and occasionally grabs if the opponent gets too comfortable shielding.

On top of the lackluster attacks all around he has the typical big body issue all heavies have.

I dunno K. Rool looks pretty ok so far. His Crown doesn't seem like a good projectile but it doesn't necessarily need to be. Just him having a fast poking tool would be something for him. I can't remember how fast the threw it and was able to move afterward off the top of my head but I recall K. Rool was not slow.

I'm a pretty big fan of Phoenix Wright and his games but I just can't imagine him not being boring in Smash. Marvel is a different beast.

hey i gotta question for you guys: what was the most hype trailer thus far?
in my opinion it was k.rool by far. i was bouncing around my room so much my piggy bank fell on the floor and broke lol.
My friends and I all watched E3 together and recored our reaction. When Snake came up I started screaming "SANKE! SNAKE! YEEEEEEEEEEEEAH!" and then when 'Everyone is here!' Showed up I shouted "EVRERYONE? HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" and then flipped out when they showed Pichu right after, which was extremley shocking.

K. Rool would be up there, but i saw his trailer on my way to a job so I couldnt scream withiut really making a scene. But rest assured if I saw it with friends I wouldve probably broken something.

Define a "boring" character in Smash.

I never understood "boring" as an argument against a character's inclusion.

Last time we had gimmicky movesets most people weren't pleased until the DLC arrived.

Honestly, Zelda.
I REALLY want her to be good because she's always been bottom tier, and her new design is so cute.
Let's just hope Sakurai made up for it with those buffs.

Define a "boring" character in Smash.
Visually uninteresting. His biggest claim to fame is OBJECTION!, while everything else would have a hard time popping out in a cartoony fighter like Smash.

Or you get a character with a strange/unorthodox fighting style that is downright unfun to play as, like Wii Fit Trainer.

A character is only boring to me if they are obnoxious to play against. Smash 4 Wii Fit Trainer, love her to death don't get me wrong, also would fit in the "boring" category for me. Nothing she does looks cool. Her soccer ball tricks can be hype but calling those rare would be a dramatic understatement. Duck Hunt could stand to be a little flashier, too.

Honestly, I don't think I could disagree more.

I feel like Phoenix has a lot of untapped potential as a fighting game character.

Don't get me wrong, he was great in MVC3U, but I feel like they could do more with him.

Eh? I really don't know how to feel about Tails.
YES. Doomguy would be excellent.
No.
Absolutely.
No.
Yes.
Why? Easily the worst option here.
Okay, I guess. I wouldn't get excited or anything.

I may have no connection to the characters or games, but this right here is hilarious. I thought they were just generic animal mascots.
2nd game actually had a multiplayer shooter mode, with at least one map based on GoldenEye.

Definitely the EVERYONE IS HERE! original trailer, but Simon + Stages/Music/SmashMeter is a close second.(I missed the leak)

Something I've always wanted to see Pheonix do in Smash is shout "Objection" for his Smash attacks, with the big pointy voice bubble being the hitbox.

I was looking around to see who would be weak, and do we have any reason to believe Falco has gotten stronger?

He's got that as one of his moves in UMvC3. Depending on his evidence level, it's either a HOLD IT! or an OBJECTION! bubble.

Fun fact, Wright was intended to be in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, but was cut because the devs ran into issues localizing the bubble since it has less characters in Japanese.

Alright, this is an honest question I've been having for a while that I'd appreciate all your opinions on.

How many of you actually want Springman for dlc, and how many of you just expect him?

Personally I feel that if ARMS has to get a rep, there are so many better, more interesting options than Springman that seeing him
put out there all the time is weird to me. Characters like Twintelle, Min Min, Helix, Mechanica and Dr.Coyle are all much more exciting than him.
I really want him. I really enjoyed ARMS and thing he would be a great representation for the game in Smash.

One question I have in mind: will DLC characters be added to the poster?
It really won't feel right if they don't do this.. I also don't see Sakurai rehashing an idea someone has already done. Like Phoenix Wright or Amaterasu fighting in Smash. If we get Heihachi it'll probably be his old version since PSABR used his younger appearance.

His lasers look much faster and he has less endlag on them iirc. Thats definitely a good buff. If he got the nerfs Fox got, i.e. stopping when someone shields his Side Special, then he took a major nerf that will most likely keep him in low tier.

I can't remember anything else they showed that was different for Falco.

Actually, here's a fun game sense a lot of you seem to like Banjo, please try and sell me on the character. You are not allowed to call him an icon or say he "deserves" it. You also cannot mention how big an impact his reveal would have of Twitter. That's irrelevant. I want the important stuff. What would his gameplay be like? How would play? Make me care. Go.
Banjo kind of works like a mech suit. Kazooie (the bird in his backpack) enhances his movement options and throws in a lot of attacks of her own. For example, Banjo can walk on his own but his speed more than doubles if Kazooie pops out to do the Talon Trot. Banjo can also jump on his own but Kazooie allows him to jump much higher, flutter, and even fly. In game, she can spit out and lay eggs. The eggs act like bullets if spit out and bounce like balls if laid. They come in 5 types: normal, fire, ice, grenade (which can accidentally hurt you), and clockwork (which produce a small mechanical Kazooie that walks around until it explodes). Kazooie can also do two types of dive bombs with one being similar to Yoshi and Bowser and one that acts like a drill. Kazooie can also act as a bayonet as well as a shield using yellow feathers that protect Banjo and make him invincible temporarily. Unlike Duck Hunt's Duck, Kazooie is honestly more of the fighter than Banjo himself. This would be the key part of their gameplay. Banjo is still the main target and players would need to understand when and how to best utilize Kazooie when she's called out of the backpack. She's like a Swiss Army knife, parachute, and Segway all rolled into one and players have to understand what she can do or the myriad of abilities are just kind of eccentric. In this vein, Banjo would be very strategy oriented along the lines of Olimar, Shulk, or Robin.

Well since Echo Fighters are a well-received thing, what would be your reaction if the 1st wave of DLC were all 4 echoes?

No, I don't mean of each other...
