Now that I think about it, I think it'd be best if we got all three Atlus characters. Jack Frost, an SMT Protagonist (I prefer Flynn), and whoever Persona's big boi is. That'd way everyone would be happen. It wouldn't happen though.

Yeah. Those two, along with the Subspace Emissary, were the main inspariation for that idea. Just though it'd be cool to have mode that seemingly felt like a fusion of all of those.

Before tomorrow's direct, here's a question for ya; what minor elements do you miss in Smash? I think Captain Falcon's launch and KO voice clips were among the funniest things in the franchise, and I would adore it if they were to come back.

The clanging sword sound effects in Melee. I miss not hearing the ring, and clashing of swords when they collide

That's not entirely true. Shin Megami Tensei is a direct sequel to Megami Tensei 2. The thought behind it was that they wanted a fresh start on the series and so they named it, literally, "true" Megami Tensei. Shin Megami Tensei, in all intents and purposes, is the continuation, the sequel, of the Megami Tensei series. It's why you don't see anymore Megami Tensei games.

It's like how Dynasty Warriors is. We're actually a number ahead of Japan in the west because when Dynasty Warriors first came out it was a one on one fighting game and was labeled Sangokumusou, they decided that the series needed a new direction so they decided to name it Shin ("true") Sangokumusou, our Dynasty Warriors 2, and what most people know as the formulaic Dynasty Warriors game. Shin Sangokumusou isn't a spinoff from Sangokumusou, it is the continuation/sequel of it, and in that same way Shin Megami Tensei is the continuation/sequel of Megami Tensei.

I never knew "shin" meant "true." I think I'll start referring to the best anime of all time by a more proper name, then:

What do you guys think about a Metroidvania mode for Ultimate? Like let's say there's this mode where the player chooses a character, and then they are put in a massive enviornment where they are required to explore to find new items, new trophies to collect, bosses to fight, and unlock new characters by fighting them in character battles. Each envoirnment would be based of a different series. There'd be a Mario theme envoirnment, a Zelda themed envoirnment, a Metroid themed envoirnment, a Pokemon themed envoirnment, and much more. Of course, enemies, character battles, and bosses would match the envoirnment. And once all the areas are cleared, you travel to Subspace for a rematch with Tabbu. What do ya'll think? Could it work?

If you want the whole thing, Shin Megami Tensei roughly means "Metempsychosis of True Goddess", if I recall correctly.

To answer my first side-quest question, I think Call or Duty is the antithesis of Smash both in gameplay and mood but also in marketing strategy. Churn out semi-bad games several few years for profit.

So CoD Marine would be the best rep.

Random question since I know basically nothing about CoD, in the unlikely hypothetical situation that they opt to try to get a CoD rep, is there a design from a particular CoD game that CoD fans consider to be better known or more important than the others? If not, the only other option would be to go for the most recent design, which would of course be outdated not too long after...

I guess you might can tell that I'm, uh, a bit of a closet SMT fan... Persona lesser so, but I'm still of fan of those too.

Well yeah SMT's the continuation of the Megami Tensei franchise, and that's where "Shin" comes from and all that.

However, it'd be incorrect to say that Persona is a spinoff of SMT. It's its own franchise that falls under the MegaTen umbrella, but SMT is its own franchise as well, having its own spinoffs.

Continuity wise, yes, it follows chronologically after SMT: If being the first game in the "Persona timeline," but we shouldn't count the SMT timeline as a sort of way to tie games together, because the timeline doesn't reflect what is actually seen as a franchise, (unless you want to somehow argue that Catherine is an SMT game or Devil May Cry is a SMT spinoff). Even in SMT alone, the world of SMT1 isn't the same as 3 and isn't the same as 4 which probably won't be the same as 5.

Basically, if the Japanese boxart of your game has the 真 symbol on it, it's a SHIN Megami Tensei spinoff.
If not, then it's another franchise under the Megaten umbrella.

People have all sorts of reasons to support characters. Some actually like the character or the series. Others are just interested to see that character in Smash but may not be a fan. Others just want to make support threads for odd-ball characters for funsies. All of them, IMO, are all valid reasons to get behind a character. There are probably other reasons as well but they aren’t coming to me atm.

I'd love to see a harmless Young Link Echo Fighter based on the Link from ALttP or ALBW, with Silver Arrows instead of Fire Arrows. Heck, even Zelda 1 and 2 Link would be nice. Essentially I want a playable Link based on the early 2D Zelda games, but I get the impression that Link having the up and down thrust from Zelda 2 is good enough for Sakurai.
