Shin Megami Tensei! What a coincidence that this post was made as we were discussing it.

As for what character would best represent it, hmm. I'm not sure. All I know is that as much as I like Jack Frost, I'd rather have a playable character before the mascot.

If we count the SMT series in its entirety, which therefore includes Persona, however--then Yu Narukami or Joker would be perfect fits. Their Persona summoning ability can include Jack Frost as a possible summon, and Persona 5 sold extremely well, surpassing Persona 4, so Joker can be even more likely and has a sick design to boot.

Don't tell Japan you think it includes Persona though because Persona is considered a totally separate entity there, and the fact that they use SMT demons as Personas is more of a "same developer reference" kind of thing.

Ah. Those people. I'll admit I'm not that huge on anime, but whenever I see some people talking smack or outright rejecting a character because they're "too anime", I just shake my head. Just because someone is anime dosen't mean that they can't anything to Smash in my eyes. Sometimes I don't understand the way those people think sometimes. It's like Fire Emblem broke them or something.

The world's gotten destroyed one way or another, and it's up to YOU to decide it's new fate from hereon out. In terms of a dark, sci-fi, fantasy, JRPG, there's really nothing like it. Since the individually games are always different in setting and tone, then it'd be pretty hard to describe it all. Just know, the world kinda sucks, and you can choose which method you think is best to make it suck less.

There's only one character I think that can represent the eccentricity of SMT and how it's like no other JRPG, and thaaaaat's

THE DEMI-FIEND, practically the antithesis of most JRPG protagonists.

• Wears no stylish clothes (or clothes in general)
• Wields no legendary weapon
• Has head to toe, glowing tattoos that change color depending on his status
• Has no party of friends met along the way
• Has no romantic partner or harem
• Doesn't save the world from being destroyed or taken over
• Does not gain strength from the power of friendship
• Doesn't fight for some deity of light or justice
• First gains his power by having a demonic bug be ingested
• Has to fight his previous friends to succeed
• Summons demonic beings to help fight as party members
• Has to negotiate with them, in some sort of bizarre mid-combat interview.
• Is half-demon himself
• Lusts for battle more than anything else

There truly is nothing like this weirdo tattoo boy, and likewise, there's nothing quite like SMT.

Not like any of this matters since Sakurai's just gonna pick Jack Frost who'll be toned down to be super kid-friendly and not say his usual weirdo talk.

I've said it before, but I still think that Resident Evil will - one day - get recognised for Smash. The most likely character, for my money, is Leon S. Kennedy.

The two series are definitely chalk and cheese, but Resi's big enough, and Resi 4 in particular being a GameCube classic and a near-perfect, celebrated and highly influential game... It just feels so right.
It's surely gonna happen one day.

Real FE Heroes fans hate that song because they're so sick of hearing it all the time already. I mean, not that I'd know. Heroes is a dumb, cash-grabby game for weebs.

On the topic of SMT, if it were to get representation, I would much prefer an SMT character over a Persona character. Mainly because,
#1. I like SMT's style, atmosphere, gameplay, and themes much more than Persona's.
#2. I think SMT is more likely given all but 1 of the mainline games have been released on Nintendo consoles.
#3. Persona is damn near everywhere! It's got an anime, a 3DS spinoff, dancing games, good lord!
But that's just me.

There's the reason we're going to get a Persona rep right there lol, it's more popular. Let's make a parallel with Cloud.

I think Jack Frost is in a similar situation with Black Mage. Has the mascot factor but not really a protagonist if you don't count Jack Bros.

...True. Well, if that does end up happening, I hope Sakurai at the very least includes some songs from mainline SMT, and not only two battle themes from Persona. It's lame when they did with Cloud, it will be lame if they do with Persona/SMT.

Although the first 2 Persona games on the original PlayStation didn't have the SMT label oddly enough (in the States). That started with Persona 3...

It's a weird-ass game with weird-ass characters.
So if you're into that, feel free to try, but be warned, it's gonna feel like the game legitimately hates you at times.
