Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

Tomorrow, in the Nintendo Direct, I hope we get news that Rivals of Aether is coming to Switch. I've always liked it but never liked having to play it on my laptop or computer, it feels like it's perfect for a console port.

There's no reason for me to suspect that RoA is coming to Switch at all, but it would be nice to see.

Cool! Hope you enjoy SMTIV. I've never played II. How is it compared to I?
It's somewhat friendlier in the UI, like how it added the now standard meter that told you how close you were to the next random encounter, but it's a lot harder to figure out where to go next. The worst offender is having to figure out that you need to level up an otherwise useless stat for your main character to get one of the items you need to access the last overworld in the game, through a dance on the full moon at the disco. But the story is fascinating and it makes up for the confusion and occasionally hair-pullingly-frustrating endgame bosses.

Alright. Might try it...if Atlus ever localizes it. Thanks for the input.

I found the best tweet:

I suggest you treat it like Mother 3 and play it anyway under the assumption that Atlus won't localize it. If you do genuinely want to play it, you might as well do it sooner rather than later.

And unlike the English fan translation patch for SMT1, the one for SMT2 I had almost no bugs or glitches in it (the code for SMT1 is notoriously messy so I'm not blaming the fan translators here). It's clean and operates nicely.

You could make a killing on Twitch with the backing you’ve got from us, your biggest fans.

If only you could get someone to animate a little tool to get Yoshi to Mouth your words for it. I’d watch that daily.
Just noticed this post. Oops :yoshi:

I have HORRIBLE video presence. I'd choke...

Since people were talking Megaten before, can we all just agree that it really does deserve a rep? That series has been around since before Final Fantasy and has had a zillion spinoffs and whatnot. Atlus in general really does deserve a rep. Even if they haven't been big in the US until recently, they've been going really strong in Japan for so long.

Also Jack Frost would fit in great in Smash. Jack Bros as a final smash? Come on it's perfect.

Man, everyone seems obsessed with seeing Shadow in Ultimate.

Alright. Will do. I've never tried to play a game on an emulator before though.

What’s one video franchise that seems like the polar opposite of the Smash in terms of design and atmosphere and which character would best represent it?

I imagine other Nintendo games/game developers hate when Smash Brothers is coming out, because each direct just becomes ''SO WHAT IS SMASH GONNA SHOW?"

''Oh, you guys are here too? Right. Cool. Cool. SMASH THO!?!!"

Just think of operating the emulator as an extension of the SMT series' cyberpunk theme, haha.

Shin Megami Tensei! What a coincidence that this post was made as we were discussing it.

As for what character would best represent it, hmm. I'm not sure. All I know is that as much as I like Jack Frost, I'd rather have a playable character before the mascot.

If we count the SMT series in its entirety, which therefore includes Persona, however--then Yu Narukami or Joker would be perfect fits. Their Persona summoning ability can include Jack Frost as a possible summon, and Persona 5 sold extremely well, surpassing Persona 4, so Joker can be even more likely and has a sick design to boot.

Literally, this is what I thought of Metal Gear/ Snake when it was announced.
One game is direct combat, one stealth.
One is a cartoon, one is about as far as gritty gets before I just completely tune out.
One is fun, one is Metal Gear :smash:

Joker also uses a dagger, that's also makes him a unique fighter. (I just noticed Bayonetta also uses pistols and summomed devils, lol)

Also, if this gets 'Life Will Change' into Smash... oh, boy.

Friendly reminder that we have a bit of diversity in smash right now

Baby - Pichu
Basic - Squirtle, Pikachu, Jigglyuff
Stage 1 - Lucario, Ivysaur
Stage 2 - Charizard, Greninja
Legendary - Mewtwo
Well I always counted Pikachu and Jigglypuff as stage 1 Pokémon and Pichu as a basic one.

Time for an ultra beast maybe?

Smash is light-hearted, exciting, has lots of characters and ways to play, ring out over death. Lots of fighting.

Limbo is dark, brooding, one character, one way to play, death all day. No fighting.

On the topic of SMT, if it were to get representation, I would much prefer an SMT character over a Persona character. Mainly because,
#1. I like SMT's style, atmosphere, gameplay, and themes much more than Persona's.
#2. I think SMT is more likely given all but 1 of the mainline games have been released on Nintendo consoles.
#3. Persona is damn near everywhere! It's got an anime, a 3DS spinoff, dancing games, good lord!
But that's just me.

Well, Simon and Richter are Catholics, so I wonder how cool they are with heathen gods like Palutena and Heretics like Shulk wielding a sword that can fell a god, not to mention the myriad faiths the Fire Emblem characters have, with Robin's clothes promoting what appears to be literally Satan.
Douse the Heretics with Holy Water. Keep it up until the ashes burn.

That’s where I got the question idea from haha.

Edit: You know what, I don't wanna talk about that guy here.
Good idea ;)

Hi! I'm new here too! Hope you enjoy your time here!
Welcome to the both of you! The place was in shambles the past week and teetered on the brink of destruction and mayhem but the Direct announcement brought calm to the thread. Relative, hype-inducing, mouth-frothing, rabid ...... calm. Feel free to ask if you have any questions.

Wouldn't that be Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat?
That’s the beauty of having SF in Smash. People said it wouldn’t work. But it worked.

Persona having more additional content is actually a good thing for it.

So whose gonna die tomorrow?

Assuming Incineroar is the one revealed. I can see him killing Little Mac in some ring or such.
