Anyone know if CoroCoro has covered Smash in the past when it comes to Pokemon?


I feel like the only chance CoroCoro has of leaking is if they drop our Pokemon newcomer.

Yeah, the good reads are from tournies, hence my second point. I do see the difference between online and offline when it comes to that.

It's doubtful so close to publication. These magazines have to make a profit too, and they can't really afford to have the contents of their issues stripped away because of another businesses' ethics decision.

Actually, in terms of "iconic game characters that represent an entire genre" I'd say Capcom in general has a large amount of icons. By far the closest amount to Nintendo's amount

Platformer: Megaman
Fighting Game: Ryu
Beat 'Em Up: Cody from Final Fight
Horror: Chris Redfield from Resident Evil/Biohazard
Visual Novel: Saber from Fate/Stay, but that has porn in it so the next guy's Phoenix Wright from Ace Attorney
Hunting: Monster Hunter

I love explaining this lore to people.

You see back in the early 2000s, Atlus and Capcom made a deal.
Atlus would let it's chief designer and artist design the "devil trigger" forms for Dante and Vergil in its upcoming Devil May Cry 3.
In exchange, Atlus were free to use Dante from Devil May Cry 2 as a major character in their upcoming Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne

From that we have this legendary boxart

And Devil May Cry in exchange got these:

The only reason the magazines should not release their information is under some NDA thing. But they're probably not, so they have a right to publish them as normal. Nintendo can ask, but they likely will be denied. The problem is they would have to ask them to stop their business entirely, not just "don't release one tidbit of information", which is unfeasible. The books are already printed. It's a lost cause.

That said, Nintendo would not be shooting themselves in foot just because a leak came. They'd still have tons of hype, gameplay videos, epic trailers and music, etc. It would hurt a little, but not that much.

Usually, when a Smash character is revealed, there's an article discussing it with Sakurai shortly after in Japanese gaming magazines. (for example: https://sourcegaming.info/2015/12/23/496/)

With the Direct being delayed at least a week, people are concerned that whatever character would have been announced last Thursday will be revealed through that, given how abruptly the plans changed.

Eh, I'm not too worried about magazine leaks. Nintendo will presumably know the longest they can wait before the media releases information and assets that they have. They'll have their Direct before then.
