Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

Honestly, the idea of Pokémon LGPE isn't bad. The idea was to invite newer players to the series.

But how they're handling it is just... Bad. I mean when your excuse to changing the catching system is because its "deemed too difficult", that's when the idea is lost.

Don't even get me started on Mew's exclusiveness in-games. -_-
Don't even get me started on the Pokeball Plus.

We all go through seasons, and unfortunately, some of them suck. A lot. You got this, just don't give up hope. Noipoi Noipoi is right, the Everyone is here trailer is good. Also try looking up video game music that you personally enjoy, that's helped me in the past.

Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee isn't aimed at the long time pokemon fans who've played every generation. It's aimed at the people who discovered pokemon through Pokemon Go, (Or Rediscovered it). That's why it has pokemon go catching mechanics and a decreased difficulty.

It's not made for us internet people who play pokemon relentlessly, it's made for the people who are very specifically NOT us, as a gateway into the real pokemon series. It's a good idea and i support it.

EDIT: also it's not like gamefreak is going to go bankrupt if this fails (It won't, btw). This is pokemon, the series prints money, this a good marketing technique.

Nightmare was the winning character for the Soul Calibur poll. Ivy earned her spot as the second most popular character, with both Mitsurugi and Sophitia in last.

This next one is all about the Tales franchise and I went with the four most popular Tales protagonists. The choices are Lloyd Irving, Cless Alvein, Leon Magnus, and Yuri Lowell.

That's true, but they have to know some of their long-time fans would buy it anyway.
Are you telling me they couldn't put in something for their veteran fans?

Considering they announced Gen VIII at the same time, I'm not offended. It's not like we'll be getting less "core" games then we get now. As long as the new gens are good and I get my remakes, Let's Go is just icing on that cake.

Just for the record since we are talking about Pokemon at the moment, Pokemon Lets Go Eevee is a day one purchase for me. It is pretty close to what I expected to get when Fire Red was first announced, and I was delusional enough to believe it was going to on the GameCube. Pokemon following you is neat, and I am curious to see if any of them have any special interactions with things. I have never played Pokemon Go (Because I dont like playing video games on a phone), so I wont be using the connection features, but throwing a poke-ball shaped controller to catch Pokemon. I dont know, that just appeals to me for some reason. Granted, only in docked mode, enough Wiimote through TV screen videos tell me throwing a spherical controller at a handheld device will nto end well. It will also, give me something to do while waiting for December, because I dont see myself reactivating my WoW subscription at the moment and playing Gamecube games in VR is getting pretty straining on my eyes.

on the topic of pokemon, does anyone else really want a pokemon conquest sequel? I feel like that game didn't get the love it deserved.
I never tried it, but if it gets a sequel on Switch, I will. I like Pokemon, and I like weird spin offs.

Unrelated to the above, but has anyone seen any hint at coin battle coming back?

Okay, so other than Heihachi, what other fighting game characters would excite many people?
I'd rather Ling Xiaoyu, or Jin Kazama than Heihachi. As for other characters, Soul Calibur: Taki, Mitsurugi, Talim, Siegfried, Kilik, Seong Mi-Na, Yoshimitsu would be exciting.
What are your expectations/dreams/fears for the next Direct?
Expectations: Nintendo Online details, Metroid Prime 4, Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Bayonetta 3, Pokémon Let's Go Eevee/Pikachu, one Character Reveal: Elma
Dreams: New Star Fox game (preferably like Star Fox Assault) PLEASE!! Xenoblade Chronicles X for Switch, Two Character Reveals beginning, and end of direct. Amaterasu, Elma, and/or Shantae.
Fears: None that can happen during a regular Direct: Assist Trophy Massacre.
I liked Gen 1 - Johto is infinitely superior - but I'm pretty excited for this. Yeah, it's annoying that the grinding mechanics are being dumbed down, but...

This is what makes it a day 1 purchase for me. My boi Arcanine! :059: And you can ride him! **** YES!

Also, I'm really hoping that it's a port of Yellow more than anything else so I can get all three starters. I consider a Pokémon game wasted if I can't have :007::002::006: in my team. I've based my team around them since about 2008.

...yeah, I don't thing any character can hype me to the level that I was for :pt::squirtle::ivysaur::charizard:. As much as I wanted Riddles to get in since the fans deserved it after all this time, E3's best announcement was :ultpokemontrainer: hands down.
I don't enjoy the lack of wild battles, but I've never played Pokémon Yellow, so I'm sort of excited to play it

Also riding Arcanine, that's a plus in my book.

To be completely honest, i'm not angry at Let's Go.
I complain about it but i'm not angry. I'm mostly afraid that they'll put some of the questionable design choices in the main games.
They said Gen 8 would make long time fans say "this is what i've always wanted!" but i'm not sure if I can believe that.

It should be aimed at both. Like Mario, Kirby and Smash games are.
Let's play a game to get back on topic.

Step 1. Pick your main or a character you like to play as.

Step 2. Give them a buff. Yay!

Step 3. Uh-oh, nothing in life is free. Give them a nerf :(

Step 4. Repeat until you are happy. Be sensible.
Charizard gets more horizontal air speed but Dair gets more endlag. Dair is only for style points anyway.

Less starting and ending lag on his attacks for less horizontal recovery

I can't say that I know personally what your exact situation is, but I do know how it can be hard to look forward to things like holidays, game releases, etc, when you've got something big looming over you. Just remember that whatever it is, you'll get past it eventually.

Don't catastrophize. Don't attach your happiness to things you don't need, or that you know are temporary.

Again, I don't know what's going on with you, but if the situation is not in your control, then you might have to just accept it. There's no sense getting more and more upset about something that cant be changed.

Of course they know some of the longtime fans are going to buy it anyway. But 1. Lots of veteran fans like pokemon go. 2. It's a remake of Kanto, which veteran fans will appreciate, 3. Not every pokemon game has to be like a main series game. This is more akin to something like Mystery dungeon.

And people love mystery dungeon. Maybe this game isn't the main series game some are hoping for, but that's okay. It's not meant to be for the longtime veteran crowd, it's meant to draw people in. The series veterans are an afterthought here and thats fine! Not every game needs to be catered to the hardcore crowd.

Personally, the game doesn't interest me for similar reasons that its disappointing to you, but I still think the game is a good idea and I want it to succeed. :)

EDIT: oops. I'll drop the topic here. sorry!

I completely understand that line of thinking, and I hope GF stays true to their word.

As for Gen 8, I wouldn't expect Pokemon Souls by any means (don't misunderstand, I'm not saying you expect this either), but rather a better executed Gen 7. Which as fun as it was, it definitely could use better hardware.

Man, we've been completely off topic for a long time lol.

Give R.O.B. a grab range that's up to snuff and not the worst in the game anymore.
Give him mobility on par with Project M.
Reduce damage on both his gyro and lasers.
Return Dthrow back to how it was in 4.

Plus you can team up with a friend and overkill that poor Bug catcher... :p
In Boarderlands the game's difficultly scales with how many players are playing the game, I wish that were true for Pokemon Let's Go. The idea behind Let's Go's multiplayer is that Player 1 is new to Pokemon and Player 2 is a more experienced player that can help them through the game.

This story helped me during hard times

A man was once preparing a racehorse for a big race when, weeks before the race, the horse lept the fence and disappeared.

The people said “How unfortunate that you horse left before the race.”
The man said “Maybe.”

Still before the race, the man’s horse comes back with another beautiful wild horse, powerful and strong. The man and his son began to tame the new horse for the race, as it was stronger than the rest.

The people said “How fortunate that your first horse left and brought you such a stout horse after leaving!”
The man said “Maybe”

A day before the race, the new horse broke the ribs of the man’s son, who would have been the rider for the race.

The people said “How unfortunate that your son was injured before the race.”
The man said “Maybe.”

On the day of the race, the town was invaded and each able bodied young man was drafted to fight a losing battle. The man’s son was not able to fight and was spared at the battle’s end.

The people said “How fortunate your son was injured by that horse before the race.”
The man said.... “Maybe.”

No matter the situation, things can change. Blessings can become curses, but curses can become blessings. It is always better to find a way to accept change, no matter how daunting, when the only other choice is despair. Each event will bring you closer to yourself, if only we can find the things that truly make us happy, learn how to break the monotony of daily life and accept the things we lack the power to change.[SPOILER/]

Oh I got one! In team battles Shulk's Monado Arts apply to the whole team, but they last half as long.

I'm pretty sure Namco has very consistently localized Cress's name as Cress which is an equally correct romanization to Cless. I legitimately don't understand why the Tales community clings to the "l" version...

I think if we get a Tales character down the road (probably DLC) that Lloyd is the most likely because Symphonia was so successful and so defined by Nintendo (the best version of Symphonia is still the Gamecube version!). Twin swords is also an interesting fighting style proposition in a world full of swordsmen. If I was just picking what I want, I'd say the best Tales game in general is Graces and further it was originally on the Wii anyway so why not Asbel? The only fear is that Graces combat is so over the top and awesome that anything approximating that in Smash would struggle to be anything except a hybrid of the best parts of Bayonetta and Brawl MK and way too good to even begin to allow, but of course, Samus in Metroid was similarly amazingly good at everything and they managed to make her bad at everything in Smash so certainly they can find a middle road somewhere?

Here, I'll do it for you.

Corrin's U-throw is now kills much earlier because a throw with an animation that awesome has no excuse for not being an awesome move as well.

Nair gets more landing lag because that Nair is BS.

Smash Bros? What's a Smash Bros? This is Poke-Boards!

Anyway i'm done discussing Let's Go right now, we've been going off-topic for too long. I think it looks disappointing but i'm willing to give a try, hopefully
Gen 8 lives up to the hype.

So uh...
Which Newcomers that we know of are you most excited for?
For me, it's Inkling :ultinkling:.

I adore Splatoon! It's only existed for three years and it's right up there with Mario for me. Even though it was predictable i'm so glad Inkling is in Smash!
I hope Woomy is a taunt...

I know exactly how you feel, man. Some days really get you down, but never, and I mean, never, ever give up. Do and continue to do what makes you happy. Stay strong. You got this. If any of you guys here ever need some motivation or any kind of support, feel free to ask. I love the Smash community and they've done nothing but treat me like a family member for the past 15 years of life. I can only try to repay them for the kindness they've given me.

Here's something that personally speaks to me:

okay guys what if the last unique newcomers were
-Geno
-Isaac
-Incineroar
-Rhythm Heaven Character

would you be happy with the roster
Definitely. I don't care for Geno or Incineroar, but Isaac and RH rep bring us up to 3 newly repped Nintendo IP and that thrills me. Plus Isaac would complete my personal "Big 3"

Zero new content, I mean. And I'll admit it's got some things going for it. Partner Pokemon following you around is a returning feature I've wanted for forever. Pokemon Go compatibility is something that needed to happen, although only being able to transfer the original 150 is a huge let down. And the graphics are nice but aren't blowing my mind. I could always go replay my old copy of Fire Red and probably not miss out on too much, especially if Gen 8 has partner Pokemon as well.
Yeah, this is my biggest gripe with Let's Go. And this is coming from someone who's a big fan of Kanto as it was my first region to play through. ( Still think Johto is the superior region, with HGSS by default being the best games in the series )
Like despite FRLG's problems, they still tried to expand on a lot of things from the original games with the Fame Checker and characters like Lorelei and Team Rocket's disbanding. They also used the post game to place it in the framing of Gen 3 itself.
Like for instance, you had a short plot line/side quest to be able to link up with RSE which kinda explained how Hoenn Pokémon would co-exist in Kanto's linear world by having them build long distance communications as Kanto and the Sevii Islands connections were primitive comparatively. They also had the same with Johto Pokémon, explaining that they were relegated to the Sevii Islands and the respective region itself.
While it's not a lot and isn't that big of a deal, and I get the bulk of it was for technical and/ or arbitrary reasons, it just to me shows that Game Freak, and by extension TPCI, is putting out a game that has less to offer than its 14 year old counterpart. Especially when that lack of content seems self-imposed for no particularly good reason. And as a long time Pokémon fan, that kinda sucks to see.

I mean if this game appeals to you, great! I just don't find anything that I can really appreciate about this game so far given everything they've revealed and spoke upon. I'm just hoping Gen 8 has something extremely interesting for modern fans of the series.
