"Every Smash Bros fan knew it was coming for Project Cafe. But the fact that it's being split for the 3DS just means that it's being split to rack in more money for Nintendo. The same game for two different systems owned by the same company. Don't expect anything competative."

"It's just a way for Nintendo to rack in money. 2 of the same game for two different consoles owned by the same company. The game's going to be another non competitive game. It'll probably be fun for the first couple of months. But then people will realise that it's not as great as it could have been."

"It's not going to be good.. lolol if they split the idea of the game between two different systems OWNED by the same company the development will be simple. It's just going to be another money maker."

^^
Just a few posts I already made on Facebook about that matter.

First, you don't know that. Second, nobody is forcing you to buy both. Or either, for that matter.

I, for one, am waiting to pass judgment until we get more info, and in the meantime I'm just gonna be glad we get a new Smash.

I don't know that. But it's very likely if you have seen the recent path Nintendo has taken on the Smash Bros series.

Lets not be like the street fighter community and automatically hate the portable version of our games.

Sakurai said he would never make a game in the same vein as Melee.
I'm just hoping it's Brawl, so Project M can be portable.

He also said that Brawl was his last smash game iirc.

Things can change. I'm not getting my hopes up or anything, jus saying lol

No content, the announcement was just Iwata saying

He discussed with Sakurai on whether the next Smash title should be on 3DS or Wii U
and Sakurai responded with "why not both?"
so you can look forward to Smash on both 3DS and Wii U
but Sakurai's team is still finishing up on Kid Icarus Uprising, so there is nothing to show for Smash yet
however, you can expect it on both systems, and working together in some fashion

It's a fighting game. Why would you want to play it on a handheld?
The only answer I can think of is that the alternative is playing it with Wii U's controller :ohwell:

Nintendo realized Melee was too good, so instead of trying to improve upon it, they just said "**** it" and went in the completely opposite direction =D

I can just see sakurai saying, "We felt brawl was a little too hard. People were having problems grabbing the edge. So now everyone has a tether from the edge of the map. Also we felt that tripping was a really fun mechanic that everyone enjoyed, so we quintupled the random tripping amount so now the game really is just a pile of stupid ****."

for...um what was that thing? Fun? I think it was called. At the end of the day we all play smash because its fun, so even if we cant do it as frame specific
as we can on console it will still be fun to be at a midnight release or a convention (If you go to those) and whip out your portable version of smash 4 (Im punching the next person that calls it strife) and have a good time.

Yes, I concede that a portable version has some obvious practical advantages, but at the end of the day, I simply find more "fun" in playing a game with a proper controller and on the big screen.

Nah, smash isn't really built for handheld gaming. I've always questioned people wanting it for a handheld so badly... And yet i'll probably get it for both just because I love smash, lmao.
If the games are actually working together in some way then maybe I can unlock stuff on my handheld when I can't play on the TV, at least that would be nice for the first few days... :p

And I can play it with other smashers when going to tournaments (even if melee ends up being the game to play at the tournament :p).

But yeah really not very hyped on smash on a handheld as such. And I hate the tablet controller, and don't think it will have accurate enough controls for smash/will be too awkward to hold.

That's Nintendo's whole approach nowadays tho. It's really all they have going for them at this point in time. Tell that to Microsoft and Sony who keep thinking they have to compete in Nintendo's market as well.

^Funny thing here is though that all nintendo has done is make a handheld console/tablet as a controller, and using a handheld console (WITH A SCREEN ON OMG!) was very possible on the GC and the wii as well. The only thing they really have done here is put more attention on it and given us a poor main controller with more buttons than ever before... And a touch screen which kinda means even more buttons heh.

I always thought Sakurai's statement meant that he tried to make every Smash as if it were the last in the series - in other words, try to make it as good (or at least as inclusive lol) as possible, not actually end the series.

seriously guys if you dont want to use what we already know is a deceptively light controller despite being quite large, why not use the wii's answer to the gcc?

The weight is not the issue. It's how wide it is. And actually how "tall" it is. Both make the grip worse... And I don't trust the circle pad much either at the moment.

Imagine playing smash with this:

Even if the weight is the same as a gc controller (no idea if it is, but let's pretend it is), it would be very awkward to play with.

But yes the CC is indeed saving smash bros. (though i still would prefer GC :p) here if the tablet controller will not be good for smash.

Edit: Actually i'd be more worried about a controller feeling too light than one feeling too heavy, heh.
