Your thoughts?

Is it legit to save the extra 10-15 seconds?

Bad sportsmanship?

I'll start off with my opinion.

Playing this game for 5 years now i know whether or not im going to lose my stock in a given situation, and i enjoy playing more games so i support it.

its prolly ok in friendlies, pools, mm, etc. But i don't think its a great idea in bracket tourney matches b/c it looks unprofessional and seems like rage quitting. But meh, what do i know

This has been debated before. I think you save less than 10-15 seconds... I don't mind when other players do it really, as long as they don't get ahead ahead if themselves and do it too soon. I think it can potentially be labeled as unsportsman-like under the right circumstances, and I never do it, but I'd never ***** about it lol. Personal preference I guess.

It should be fine as long as its not done unprofessionally. It could be equivalent to resigning in a chess match which happens all the time. I'd rather do it to get into the next game quickly

Imo it should never be done in tournament matches, but in friendlies it's okay. People do make evaluation mistakes considering wheter the game was really over or not.

We'd be much better off if people didn't do this, but some people are just in the bad habit of doing it. Even if you think you always know when a match is over there are going to be those odds times where you're wrong and then you totally screw up the match. Plus, some people actually quit out of matches when they WIN which is totally not cool imo, cause they're not doing it to resign they're doing it to say "I won and I've decided to end the match."

It's fine if they are about to lose. I make them forfeit the match if they do it on me before I try to recover, even if I was knocked far. They don't know if I would have survived that or not.

I never do it in tourney, but I don't see what's wrong with quitting out in friendlies. It does bite you in the *** every once in awhile though, I once ragequit in a friendly on Yoshi's Story only to suddenly see that I had landed on the cloud LOL

The only issue I have is when it happens when someone does it too early and we never know if someone might have survived or not given that proper DI or tech.

In a friendly match, it's understandable. And of course, that habit would also apply if you SD yourself by accident.

Personally, I don't like the idea of sacrificing a life to KO an opponent, unless that opponent only has 1 life left; you'd get the KO, and the game would end without you losing a life.

As long as its only the potential loser doing it, i see no problem. In this case, theres no "but he could have survived if..." scenario because, because the loser acknowledges that for all intents and purposes, he rightfully lost the match already in his eyes which is fine.

the potential winner being the quitter could get messy though

If you quit when you might have survived, it's only your loss, so that's fine.

If you quit when your opponent was about to lose, I hope they make you forfeit.

I was under the impression that the one about to die is the one who usually (always) quits out
A lot of the time the winning player quits because he thinks there is no way you could have survived.

I really don't understand why this debate always comes up. It's not a hard concept to grasp (all of these assume last stock):

Star KO? Reset.
Free-fall off stage? Reset.
Pretty much anything else? Reset only by the losing player.

It's really simple. If the winning player resets when it isn't a guaranteed, that's bad. Of course if the losing player is fine with it, it's not bad.

I think it's fine only if you don't reset FOR YOUR OPPONENT.

I support players who quit out when they know they're going to lose. It shows that they acknowledge their opponent's win, honestly it's a form of respect imo (unless it's just pure rage).

ionno I think it's really a interesting part of our culture / how quickly it grew

I think zhu hit it right on the spot how i feel about it. When i quit out of matches its typically cuz i didn't see it soon enough or saw it coming and couldn't do anything about it, but i always give congrats to those who earn it.

Tbh i brought this up because of all the Socal players. Most of them all quit out of matches and i thought it was rage.

"a lot of the time"

?????????????????????

it's fine imo as long as the supposed winning player doesn't do it. if/when I start/reset the match it's out of respect and acknowledging defeat and not rage.

Yeah if people reset for me I get pissed off. If it's for them losing though, I don't really care.

Lol I don't see what is hard to understand about that statement.

A lot of the time, the winning player resets.

Yeah but all you have to do is converse with your opponent before a set. Just say "no resetting or it's a forfeit" and make him agree before the match. No controversy.

It happens at tournaments, probably just not to you, or in you're area.

okay let me add on

I don't even remember the last time I've seen that in a tournament video

the fact that you won't even bother to link me to a video is kinda lame and does nothing for what you say

I hate it in general. Especially when I lose and the winner does it.

However, I've gotten over it. I hate in in-tourney still.

Puu makes a good point considering the numberof hours we play that might throw in a couple of extra games.

And LOL at the second match. Hahahah mango is too good

also as long as the winner doesn't do because that's wack

I hate how people get on your *** for "ragequitting".

It should just be called resigning. The player who pauses forfeits the match.

It's like saying "gg" in starcraft, if people think that's ragequitting when the person losing does it, their opinion doesn't matter because they have the maturity of a 5 year old.

1. I don't think it should EVER be done by the winning player under any circumstances.
2. I don't think it should be done on recorded matches. This is mostly because it kind of takes away from the winning player's victory a little. Sometimes a person will perform some cool combo and the opponent will reset. That's cool and all, but now he can't use said combo in cool combo videos Q_Q.
