How does this thread work?
Similar to the other game creation threads, I will give a prompt that anyone can respond to, say "create a two-stage poison type". Rounds will typically go for a bit longer in this game, as unlike in the other projects we are creating brand new things, instead of applying pre-existing concepts to a game. When submitting a Pokemon, you can draw a submission, but that isn't necessary. What is necessary is name, type, and a brief summary of the pokemon's design. After a while, we will vote on which of the submitted things should win. We will handle ties on a case-by-case basis, from accepting both to doing a re-count.
Anyways, here's what we have so far.
Welcome to the Iroan region! Based on Greece, this archipelago has a rich history and an abundance of Pokemon found nowhere else! This region's professor, Professor Laurel, is extremely new to this, but that hasn't stopped her from giving a pair of trainers pokedexes and making them catch em' all.

Philosopher by Venus of the Desert Bloom
The Philosopher is a deep thinker who considers the meaning of life within the Pokemon world and Pokemon and human interactions. The Philosopher is keen on debating the human existence and the impact of Pokemon on humanity. Typically, Philosophers utilize Psychic, Fairy, and Normal-types but, on occassion, Dark-types to reflect the dark nature of humanity. They can be spotted by sporting a shaggy white hair and beard along with a more modernized toga robe. They typically carry a dusty book full of their musings and theories. How they speak can be perplexing due to their academic backgrounds and may cite excerpts from historically relevant books.
Librarian by KneeOfJustice99 :
The Librarian archetype is interesting in that they tend to use Pokemon that have a connection to the past or ancient ruins (Pokemon like Golurk, for instance.) Furthermore, they have a tendency to use a lot more status effect moves as opposed to going for direct damage, implying a more intelligent but less directly offensive playstyle.
In terms of appearance, I imagine them having a sort of "light academia" look - light but smart clothes, such as cardigans, shirts, ties, and some nice round glasses. They tend to carry around books with them, which they take a look at when battling (implying that they're taking hints from said book during battle.)
Val by Paraster
- Name origin: derived from multiple names that mean "strong" or "healthy."
- Val is a Fighting-type Gym leader who seeks strength of both mind and body. Most of their time is spent either working out, training their Pokemon, or studying at the Laograf Library. Val tends to be very stoic at first, but they open up more to people who can best them, at which point they can start to talk a bit too much about everything that interests them.
- Val's skin tone is similar to Ilima's from Sun/Moon. Their attire is similar to Maylene from Diamond/Pearl, but with a yellow-and-black color scheme, black sandals, and no gloves. They have red hair (literal red, not ginger) done in a short braided ponytail. They have visibly toned muscles.

Thalassa Town (by Venus of the Desert Bloom :
A costal town located near a cliff that overlooks the Progonoss Sea. It’s a pleasant town with white houses, balconies, arbors, and cobble streets with a fountain in the middle. It’s here that several Pokemon Trainers will set forth in their journey to become the greatest Pokémon master of them all! The towns motto is “Where the sea meets, all will become one.” Thalassa Town means “sea”.
Route 1 (by Venus of the Desert Bloom ):
This will have your typical low level pokémon including Pidgey, Sentret, Wurmple, and other Pokemon as it winds down to the beach below. As you get closer to the beach, players may come into contact with Sandyghast, Snadshrew, and Wingull. A lucky trainer may even find the regional variant, Ironian Bunnelby. This makes this route very diversified from when your leave Thalassa Town. It is here at the Pokemon professor has their laboratory.
Laograf Town (by Paraster ):
Route 2: The first town that players set off on during their first pokémon journey is nestled on an overhanging cliff plateau with stunning views of the sapphire-like ocean below. As a symbolic meaning to start ones journey, the first route will dive down to the beaches below. This route is a slope with a mixture of grasses, rock, and dirt that snakes it’s way down while hugging the cliff face. As the route gets closer to the beachfront, the Rocky and slightly grassy terrain gives way to beach grasses and hill-line dunes before spilling out into Amolofos Beach. This is a stunning beach full of dunes, beach grass, and palm trees that end into the sapphire surf. There exists a boardwalk to navigate these dunes and grasses with are apart of route 2 but empties into the beach. Low level Pokémon can be found here and, during the first trip, players won’t encounter other trainers but a return trip will see an influx of new trainers. If my concept gets selected, I would love to see what kind of Pokémon we could populate it.
Erinni Town by Venus of the Desert Bloom
This peaceful town situated along the coast is tucked amongst sun-dyed cliffs. This town is famous for its hot springs, so much so that tourists from Kalos and Galar will come here just to experience them! Being so close to the ocean and this towns affinity for water, Wingull and Pelipper can be found here. Especially Wingull. They are a nuisance but people have learned to use them to find schools of fish.
Xirozylo Forest by Venus of the Desert Bloom (With additional notes)
Thalassa Town is based on Laurium, Attica. This town is a coastal one with a maritime tradition.
Laograf Town would be based on a townified version of “Archaeological Site of Brauron“ which could also serve as a place to come back to for our fossils.
I don’t think River Wheald would be a good early location due to the presence of Ghost pokemon. That being said, I think the Ladon River is a good source of inspiration.
As for a forest, mine is based off of Plátanos Varybobi which is a mountain forest overlooking Athens. This would serve also in Pokémon Marble and Bronze as it would look over the largest city in Ironia. I think we would have to include a route to get to there form Laograf Town or even a cable car to get up to it. It’s an alpine forest with moderately forested dry forest with trees suited for a dry environment. This forest is called Xirozlyo Forest (modified version for Xiróxylo or “dry wood” in Greek. Unlike most forests in Pokémon, that forest wouldn’t be populated with bug pokémon but lots of grass, flying, ground, and rock types due to its more higher elevation and dryer location.
River Wheild (by Paraster )
Inspired by the mythological River Styx ("Wheild" is based on "weald"--I am open to alternate names). It is a haunted river that flows through an underground cave and an overgrown grove that little sunlight reaches. May allow for Ghost-type Pokemon to gain Water-type regional variants, or vice versa.

Laograf Town (by Paraster ):
- Name origin: from "laografía," romanization of λαογραφία - "folklore").
- Most known for its large library, a nexus of Ioran's history. The town has a very modern aesthetic for someplace as small as it is, but the library's architecture remains a relic of the past. There is a theme of "balance" here--between past and present, between body and mind (see below), and potentially more (depending on the story).

Lost Lunch
It also has a signature attacked called Lost Lunch where a strike that lands a critical hit on the opponent causes any held berry or food to be "spat up" which results in the Wingfull/Pelliper eating it and gaining its affects. (Iroan Wingull/Pelipper
