Let's assume that I'm a PS3 owner who is completely out of the loop (let's not assume any further, I am). I understand what happened, how my security may have been compromised, and I should be slightly worried, correct? I did once put credit card information on my account, but the above article states that this kind of information wasn't obtained by the illegal source.
Depending on what card company you have, you may have some concern. I have an AMAZING experience with Chase where they call if anything is remotely out of the norm. There have yet to miss a charge, and I review my card before paying a thing. That said, I am canceling my card today to get a new one. This is more of a precaution.

If you are also worried, I'd get in touch with your banks and ask about their identity theft protection. Most will help you.

This is why i like 360 more... I think the only thing I am going to keep my PS3 hooked up for is some of the old school PSN Final fantasy games.
I bet you all those 360 fanboys thought the exact same thing this guy is thinking when Xbox got downed for like 2 weeks back in 07

What I like about my bank is that their quick to contact you if your card has been charged a certain number of times within the hours and and ask you to verify if you made those purchases. They're quick to take action and block any additional charges until the problem is solved but will suggest changing your card. Plus I'm sure people hopefully look at their statements of all their charges to ensure that fraud charges and not being made. I strongly suggest to those who have inputted their card info to Playstation Network and the store to just check their billing statements to be safe. I'm sure every bank can also allow you to block charges from certain companies.

Oh please. XBox Live is just as susceptible to incidents such as this, is that not inherently clear to everyone? Just because it happened to the PSN doesn't mean that it can't happen to any other large database of information, because it does happen, and IIRC, something happened to the Xbox Live system in 2007. (don't remember, wasn't it mentioned somewhere?)

It went down for about 2 weeks because of the influx of new members singing up. But our personal information was safe. We got this crappy arcade (Undertow) game for compensation.

Man we had still better get compensation for this.

If it wasn't for the fact that thousand's of people's credit info got stolen, I honestly wouldn't care nor expect Sony to do something about it. Since this is the case, however, then we had better get something back for this and make it good

I think giving users roughly $10 in PSN wallet funds or maybe a free voucher for Flower or Fat Princess would be a great gesture and show that Sony isn't incompetent at everything. Namely, publishing good games.

PS3 has some good games wtf are you talking about?

I hear games like Mass Effect (that's PS3 exclusive right?) and Uncharted are good off the top of my head

I was stating that they're good at publishing great titles. And no, Mass Effect is multi-platform, and was published by Electronic Arts.

Oh woops, I didn't understand what you said right there

Writing that after the first sentence gave me the wrong idea lol

And oh... well I dunno I still haven't delved to far into the library of games that the PS3 has to offer atm so I dunno :/

Next time you're at GameStop, get a Fat Princess voucher. It's half the price of what you'd pay on the PlayStation Store, and the game itself is just awesome.

I've heard Fat Princess is fun. Not sure what I would do with 10 dollars on my PSN given I don't care much about online pay. Maybe buy some DLC or something if that's possible.

If I got 10 bucks, I'd probably invest in that ACB DLC about Da Vinci

Heard my friend say it was good **** and I'm too lazy to convince my parents to give me the money for the game

I used to have a 360. The very first one I got was brand new and after setting it up got the red rings. Otherwise I would play at my friends house and there are good games on the 360 I wish were also on PS3.

Forgot ACB had a DLC on Da Vinci. I rented the game, so it's a lost cause for me. I'm looking into buying the next Arkham Asylum, Uncharted, or Dark Souls game...so if there's any DLC, it might go there.

Both consoles have their games that other side wish they had. Thankfully, I'm not big on FPS or I would be wanting Gears of War, Halo...and other stuff.

God I really wish GoW on PS3 would happen.

It would finally give me an excuse to rid myself of the burden that is my 360

Did anyone watch that press conference? They basically said PSN will be up this week, we get a free piece of software (determined by region), and we get free PS Plus for a month. I wasn't even expecting compensation to be honest, I'm impressed Sony!

A friend of mine got a call from Mastercard yesterday. Apparently, they told him that Sony's provided each credit card company with a list of credit cards which could have been potentially exposed/stolen. All are agreeing to extensive fraud watches on these cards just in case, and he didn't really need to cancel his card. Which he had already done, but still.

So there you go. :3c

I missed it. I think I feel asleep. Hmm but that's a good heads up.

I hope it's not something I'll never use. Oh, well. I'm picking up a PSN card today too, so I'll be able to get that hugely discounted Marvel vs. Capcom 3 avatar bundle and the two DLC characters.

I'll be leaving for a Marvel tournament within the hour. Wish me luck, gentlemen!

Good on Sony for doing something to reward the people they potentially screwed over. I think with this though, I am never putting a CC on my account again and just buying PSN cards to make my purchases.

Free piece of software, huh? Hm, wonder if that's like "there's 1 item everyone's getting" or if it's "free item of X value". Curious to see if I could wind up not having to pay for Platinum T.T.

What do they mean by free piece of software? Like a downloadable game?

Honestly, I don't know what I'm gonna do with PSN+ for a month, because from my understanding, once it goes away...the stuff you have goes away.
