chibi robo kitchen top stage... only...
:( You never did explain why. Can you tell me? I promise not to be a jerk about it.

Really the only thing I see wrong with Chibi Robo is that he isn't really popular. Other then that he would be a decent character for the next smash.

Right now I think Chibi Robo would be my favorite WTF character of all time. xD But... sadly...
Unlikely? Yeah lol I know. I just think he is a decent character who does have somewhat of a long shot of making it into a smash game.

I think Chibi Robo would be an interesting idea, he'd be a great surprise character as somehow he is always overlooked. That is just coming from personal experience too.

cause i don't like his design... (im a character artist btw)
Interesting reason. Just curious but what exactly bothers you about the the design? Is it too simple or is it because it's chibi?

Yeah I think that would be the role he would fill if he joined a smash game. He isn't completely overlooked though, there are some trophies/stickers from the series in Brawl.

Rofl, on the contrary I find he looks cool but that's just my opinion. : p

Don't lie, it's because he's black isn't it?

J/K
He doesn't look any better neon blue, piss yellow, blood red, or car-freshner green. So no. =P

And I agree, Chibi-Robo has an amusing design. xD

Geno is not logical. He is an obscure supporting character from a Mario game from 20 years ago who also happens to be third party. If he's even there, he should be down with the other third parties. Coolness (which is entirely subjective) is just not enough to make Geno a reasonable candidate.

I can understand fans of Super Mario RPG clamoring for him. But you said you never even played it. Why do you think he is more worthy than Toad, who you note would also be nice, but there wasn't enough "room" on your roster?

Otherwise, I would say your roster is pretty much as you describe.

Its cool, representive, but not really logical. It pleases too many people. I think Geno really cant make it, and if he did, he would be 3rd Party. Andy probably cant make it either. The rest is plausible. I would still buy it though. Layton, Nook and Ridley ^^
Although Layton MAY be 3rd party too. But im sure Level-5 would gladly negotiate, unlike Square Enix.

Want a quick and easy-to-understand confirmation on Layton being third party?

http://iwataasks.nintendo.com/creators.html

Still my #1 pick for a dark horse character, mostly for being the most popular and totally eligible character Smash nerds never noticed. He's like the inverse of Geno.

k. thanks for the confirmation. I had never googled it, but going on the legal writing on the back of the box, it seemed to be second party, like GoldenSun and such. But Final Fanstasy 4, being 3rd party has all this extra legal writing to differentiate it. Thats what had me confused.
Layton's box doesnt say that all rights are reserved to Level-5, whereas FF4 does say all rights reserved to SE. If thats the case, what exactly does Nintendo own? The touch screen implementation of the puzzles?

Nintendo owns nothing from Layton, they just published the first three games outside of Japan. Square-Enix has always published their own games because they've always had the capital for it.

There's more junk on Wikipedia, but the short version is that the Layton series is the reason Level-5 went from small studio to developer/publisher.

edit: completely forgot about Dragon Quest IX, which Nintendo published since Square-Enix is ******** about international DQ. I doubt you own that game to compare the back of the box and whatnot, but surely our resident DQ honcho is a nice enough person to fill you in when he logs on later.

I could say that your list is almost perfect and realistic, just not like that you kept Toon Link, and added Black Shadow, because we would have another clone of C. Falcon Unnecessary. Seconds best representatives for F-Zero would Goroh Samurai, Dr. Stwart or Jody Summer.

Iv played it, but dont own it. Box from google http://www.time4rpgs.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/dragon_quest_9_back_us-boxart.jpg

it has the complicated legal wording that FF4 has.
All rights reserved to whatever.

Now look at Layton
http://www.hkofferhouse.com/images/... Layton and The Diabolical Box cover back.jpg

Now, look at Sonic Chronicles
http://image.com.com/gamespot/images/bigboxshots/1/941521_91616_back.jpg

Sonic, FF, and DQ are obviously 3rd party, and their complicated legality is obvious from their cases. In all 3 cases, they stress the point that all rights involved are reserved to companies other than Nintendo. Yet Layton's game lacks the complicated legal wording. It doesnt even specify that the rights involved are reserved to Level-5. I am sure that he is 3rd party also, its just odd that Level-5 didnt make it clear that they and they alone owned him and his series. It looks more like the wording of a 1st or 2nd party game like GoldenSun or Kirby

I don't have my box to DQIX anymore, but I do have the case to DQVI and that published by Nintendo just the same as IX. So I'll take a look later when I get off work.

beat you to it http://pics.mobygames.com/images/covers/large/1298817967-00.jpg

it also has the clear legal wording of a 3rd party game.
That's because it is... Nintendo simply struck a deal with SquareEnix to publish and advertise the series in the West. Logic would say it is because Nintendo wants to capitalize on the popularity in Japan, expanding that overseas. Nintendo doesn't have the luxury of having the latest Final Fantasy title on their consoles, but they do have the second best thing. By growing the series SquareEnix makes more money, which in turn means Nintendo does as well. By having their own exclusive, major, RPG title.

Which has always led to my theory on why we could see Dragon Quest content in the next Smash Bros. game.

I know all of that. Theres just the problem of which character they would choose. Personally, i would like to see Terry with a Dracky, Slime and Watabou, but its my bias of prefering DWM. A attacks would be like that of any sword user, with graphic effects that make them resemble the elemental slashes. His special attacks could be Firebal, Sleep and such from the monsters, with his final smash being Mega Magic from Slime.

My point with the boxes was, if all of those 3rd party games have specific legal wording to denote that, why doesn't any of the Layton games?

I don't know much about Geno other than he's a character from Mario RPG that is own by Square Enix. You would think because of his popularity he would appear in other Mario games (not often but occasionally).

I've been told that Square Enix hates their fans and it's the reason they don't do things like make a true Chrono Trigger sequel (with Chrono, Frog, Robo, etc). Also if you try to make a Chrono Trigger sequel remake with a ROM hack they will stop you. I'm not sure on how much is that is true but I feel if Square wanted popularize Geno more they would added him in more games.

I'm not against Geno by any means but I'm just trying to look at it logically.

Dawn of the Final Day: 24 hours remain

We are now less than 24 hours away from Nintendo's E3 conference. Anyway, since we are so close to the E3 conference. Here are my predictions pertaining to each of Nintendo's series:

Mario:
I expect maybe one or two announcements, however, they will be just be spinoff titles (sports or Mario Party in particular). Mario games that were announced that I expect to see are Super Mario 3DS, Mario Kart 3DS, and Paper Mario 3DS. I personally don't expect a Mario platformer to be announced for the Cafe (or at least a 3-D platformer) since the 3-D team is busy with Mario 3DS.

Donkey Kong:
Donkey Kong Country Returns was a massive success. However, the question remains whether Retro will decide to make a sequel to their latest hit before the Cafe is released. Personally, I think they can get a Donkey Kong Country Returns 2 out in 2012, and would be a good last hurrah for the Wii. However, it is quite possible that Nintendo has commissioned Retro instead to begin work on titles for the Cafe with the Wii on the way out. I personally don't expect any Donkey Kong titles to be announced aside from Donkey Kong Country Returns 2. There might be a small chance we see an announcement of another crappy Paon-developed DK title for the 3DS.

The Legend of Zelda:
The only new announcement I see for Zelda at E3 is some sort of special edition compilation disc for the series 25th anniversary. Other than that, Skyward Sword and Ocarina of Time 3D are both obvious shows for E3. Hopefully, we will get a release date for Skyward Sword.

Metroid:
Since E3 2001, a Metroid title has been present at every E3 with the exception of E3 2008. With that kind of track record, I expect some sort of Metroid announcement, particularly for the 3DS. The most likely Metroid games I can see being announced for the 3DS are the elusive Metroid Dread (or a 2-D Metroid of some sort) or Metroid Prime Hunters 2.

Yoshi:
I don't see anything for Yoshi. However, there is the possibility that a new game is made by Artoon or Good Feel for the Wii or 3DS. Yoshi is a bit tricky to predict.

Kirby:
I don't expect any new announcements for Kirby, considering there are two Kirby titles already in development. I am curious thought whether Kirby DS4 (yes, another Kirby game is being made for the DS, not 3DS) will be released internationally. Of bigger important though is Kirby Wii (formerly known as Kirby GCN) which finally got a new trailer after being vaporware since 2006. Kirby seems to have a tendency to having new titles released at the end of a system's life span (Kirby's Adventure, Kirby's Dream Land 3, Kirby Super Star Stacker).

Star Fox:
Obviously we are going to be seeing Star Fox 64 3D. However, will a new installment also be announced? Personally, I think its a little late for there to be one for the Wii. However, I think if SF643D does well sales wise, I fully expect a new installment for the Cafe or 3DS to be greenlighted.

Pokemon:
I expect the announcement of a random Pokemon spinoff. There is also the small chance that Pokemon Typing DS gets localized.

F-Zero:
F-Zero has been dead for over six years. I expect no new software titles for the series. If a new title is announced, it will probably be a port of F-Zero X for the 3DS.

Mother:
This series is finished and dead. The only thing I expect in the future for this series is a port containing all three games for the series. Nintendo should have released one for the DS (especially considering that many games on this platform were 2-D). It might be a little more awkward to release a compilation of the Mother games for the 3DS, but it should be done anyway.

Fire Emblem:
FE12, a remake of Book 2 of FE3, was released last year for Nintendo DS in Japan. The question is whether Marth's second quest will be brought outside Japan. E3 represents the last chance for this game to be localized. If it is not shown at E3, then the game will stay Japan-only. There is the possibility we might see a new Fire Emblem for the Wii (perhaps they would like to use their PoR/RD engine one last time before the Cafe is released).

Wario:
I expect a new WarioWare title either for the 3DS or the Cafe.

Pikmin:
Pikmin 3 is finally shown off, and its a title for the Cafe.

Kid Icarus:
Just Kid Icarus Uprising.

Miscellaneous series:
I am surprised a Custom Robo game was never released for the Wii. They still got that engine from the GameCube Custom Robo, and probably could get away with not making any graphical upgrades for a Wii title. I also expect a new Starfy title to be announced, especially considering there has not been a new title for the series since 2008. As for Golden Sun, I think its too early for a GS4 to be shown, but I have a feeling that its now in development for the 3DS assuming Camelot is not on sports spinoff duty.

Smash Bros.:
Nothing will be shown or mentioned, however, someone will ask Sakurai about it though and his response will be: "laughs*

I originally had Samurai Goroh thinking that Black Shadow would just be a clone. However, I did some research and found out that he apparently has his own powers and such. Also, Samurai Goroh being ANOTHER sword character led me to replace him on here. I have Geno instead of Toad because I just figured Geno's moveset would be much cooler and back during Brawl discussions there was never such a clamoring consensus that it was impossible for Geno to get in. Quite the opposite, actually. So Toad instead of Geno and maybe Goroh instead of BS. Who would replace Andy?

@chronobound, Retro is apparently working on a game for Cafe, so i would put Metroid Prime 4 on that list if it were me.
EDIT: Just googled it to make sure and apparently I missed something earlier. They confirmed that they were working on Eternal Darkness 2.
Disregard

@Hoots, Since Geno is third party, you are lacking a Mario rep, so i would add Bowser Jr or Fawful. Keep Geno because you never know what Sakurai might do. Just label him as 3rd party instead of Mario series.

lacking a mario rep... huh. so you're not happy with just Mario, Luigi, Bowser, and Peach? of course you're not. no one here is. The mushroom kingdom doesn't need to expand it's borders. It's perfectly fine the way it is.
Y'know, i used to be in support of Bowser Jr. but nowadays, i don't care about him anymore. Toad is in an even worse standing with me, so yeah, no new mario characters in my image roster sometime next week. i may also make a fan demand roster based on world wide rosters and logic.

also, it was de-confirmed that retro is working on Eternal Darkness 2. Star Phoenix is the one who re clarified me, i believe.

also, why should Geno not be in Mario franchise? because he is owned by Square? the way it is organized in the game is by franchise. whether it be Super Mario Bros. or Super Mario RPG, it still retains the Super Mario title.

I don't think Square would allow Geno unless Sakurai really wanted him. Square would probably want a more recent character like from Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles or Tactics. I don't know any characters because I don't play them but it seems something Square would do.

I don't know. I've just started on FF7 and I have never played any FF games before. I know a few things though like is that a black mage with a hockey stick and a flaming basketball?

it's actually just a black mage with a basketball. it's from Mario Hoops 3-on-3. black mage is a generic job you can choose in the beginning of the first Final Fantasy.
it is a job class in every Tactics game as well as any FF game with a job system.

gasp... didn't know how close that sounded to my ranting on Toad discussions... well regardless of the generic fact, i support black mage. im on the fence for moogle... he started on Final Fantasy VI and is basically a Toad.

Square's Final Fantasy series is one of the strangest (Dragon Warrior/Quest is another) series as it isn't the same main characters over and over, but the Blade and Magic aspects always shine through.

I was wondering...if Classic Megaman got in and he could copy abilities, do you think he'd get D3's DownB? I'll elaborate on it eventually (likely a while from now cuz of E3), but I'm just wondering.

I really like Toad and it's probably my first pic when it comes to Mario 2 or Super Mario Bros Wii. He's also the best driver in Mario Kart games. I actually did some research and the Toad that is often mention as the Main Toad (like the Main Yoshi) is the captain of Peach's Guard.

I beat Dragon Warriors 1 and played Dragon Warriors 2 but that's it. Spells like Hurt and Hurtmore I always thought it was funny.

Toad can be really cool and all, but does anyone know of a possible moveset for him? Im sure they could make it work, but im just not sure how interesting it would be. I looked up Fawful and he seems neat, but he appears to be very obscure as well. As far as Square goes, since the secret characters in sports mix were final fantasy characters, what would be so impossible about scoring Geno?
