I like the idea of the bubble. I was also thinking about an item that produced a hole in the floor of the stage, as well as having a pull effect in the area around it. Think of it like a black hole or a whirlpool.

I thought about that but it seems like we're only using greens then, though it's not really a problem.

I'm not sure it'd even have to move. Simply holding them in place would make them vulnerable enough to make the item worthwhile.
If it gets in and it is like that, then it would be PERFECT for Meteor Smashes. :awesome:

I want this to be different. But in all seriousness?

Best case scenario: The name is real, the announcement is gonna happen, the screen is real, and the game is being made by Retro. Calling it right now. *kidding*

If anything, I just want the announcement to happen.
Yo...that would be AMAZING if they were making it.
Okay, who the 4exes is this? Whenever I see the name RARE immediately pops into my head. What games has Retro made and why are they deserving of making smash?
I'm getting the impression that you see nothing remarkable about the Prime series and DKCR. If I'm wrong, then my apologies for this:

They don't deserve to work on smash? They have proven that they can make good games of different genres and series. Smash has platforming elements, and based on DKCR, they can handle that genre. Plus, Nintendo wouldn't let something like SSB be ruined.

Honestly, I usually have popular ideas for fighting franchises when it comes down to it. xD Like last time I got involved in making ideas, and I recommend a franchise to have one of its new characters voiced by Brian Drummond. But, of course, that never happened. So sad, so sad.

Maybe we'll get lucky with this one. =P

That's debatable. I consider Brawl pretty much a fun party game. It's monotonous "I punch you, then you try to punch me" gameplay gets old when you're trying to have a serious match. Not that Brawl is a "ruined" version of smash. I don't think Nintendo would neccisarily release a pos smash. But I don't see nintendo putting out a pos game period. Just Brawl was average.

But I had never heard of Retro before so relax. I don't play any Metroid games, (I'm not good in a 360 degree visual setting with first person perspective. I get overwhelmed very quickly.) and I haven't played DKCR.

Who knows? They might bring Smash into an unprecedented and amazing direction, JUST LIKE what they did with Metroid. And Metroid Prime is considered a classic, and one of the best games ever.

What could possibly go wrong? xD

Alrighty then, sorry about that XD.

About that oil item, what if they upgraded that Freezie thing so that if its thrown on the ground, it would behave like your oil idea? I like the oil idea you've suggested more though; this just popped into my head.

Honestly, I think Smash would fine be fine with moreso tweaking its qualities rather than introducing new ones. Instead of taking it in a whole new direction, just changing things up a bit. To be honest, the Smash formula really isn't bad at all.

But if they do take it in a new direction, give it to Retro Studios. They are good at that stuff.

I mean WITH the current formula, because knowing Retro, they'll probably do something new and awesome with that standard formula.

I mean, we can't just have every smash bros. just be the same. We need something new every now and then, or SSB will turn into CoN. And we don't necessarily want that.

Were Brawl Pics ever leaked? In early development I mean. Not the three days before american release.

Edit: What about Melee for that matter? Nintendo is notorious for keeping things under wraps. I see no reason that all of the sudden they slip up and let a pretty major title leak.

Brawl wasn't really leaked. It was confirmed to be in development about a year before the first pictures were shown. When it was first shown though, it took most people by surprise, because it was shown after Nintendo's main E3 event, at a after-party of some sort. Needless to say, no actual pictures of it were ever leaked prior.

I honestly don't care if the picture is legit. What I want is an announcement of some nature.

I think you'd have to do more than tweaking the game to get a roster of balanced, diverse characters. With the current system, I feel you're better off balancing everyone by homogenizing a lot of stuff.

Nintendo themselves could've leaked it for all we know to generate hype.

Capcom may or may not have done that for both SSFIV and MvC3. In fact, the details for Juri and Hakan were revealed before they were ever unveiled officially. It's not too much of a stretch for Nintendo to do it as well.

Juri and Hakan were clearly just leaked by an unaffiliated source, rather than Capcom, and certainly the MvC3 stuff was leaked without their blessing.

Nintendo leaking something is also a huge stretch, because as far as I know, they've never let information like that leak about a unannounced game. There have been leaks in the past, but those always come from a game that's fairly well into its development (and most of the time have some type of Pokemon spin on them). But as far as I remember, Nintendo has never let pictures of a unannounced game slip by, and its fairly out there to say that they would do it themselves.

The thing is, we don't know whether or not Capcom gave the information to those people to be leaked or that they leaked it under an alias.

That's just a silly conspiracy theory. We don't know if it was some third party here who sent in a spy at Capcom to discredit their security by posting all their information on the internet. We don't know if it wasnt aliens from Planet X who want to take over the world secretly, and revealing fighting game rosters before they are out is part of all that. There are a lot of things that we don't know that it could be, but most of the time, the simplist solution is what happened. Both times were likely just fans who learned of the roster because they worked closeley with the companies, and decided to leak it for everyone else.

It should also be noted that the leaker of SSF4's roster leaked things in the past as well, and said things weren't always Capcom games. If I recall correctly, he leaked info on one of the DS Castlevania games (PoR?) among other things. Lupinko, the guy who leaked MvC3 didn't have all the details down in his leak, and also leaked things about MK9, which again, isn't a Capcom game.

Not stricly SSB related, but I'm amazed that sony or microsoft haven't tried to copy the SSB formula. Sure, there have been knock-offs, but no first party attempts featuring the exclusive characters of their respective systems. Sony has a destinct advantage imo, because of their substantial catalog of recognizable characters. MS has Rare though, plus a few heavy hitters of their
own.

I think they'd have an almost impossible task trying to topple SB, but you'd think they would have tried.

The only smash-like idea I can think of for 360 is a FPS crossover, and that could go very wrong with fans...

And for PS3, they dont have many memorable characters that would fit in a fighter like nintendo has.

360 has tekken 6 and MvC3. Those games are the traditional fighters that most fans or "hardcore fans" will enjoy. Brawl is a fighter but not a traditional fighter like those on the 360 and ps3 so I dont think a SSB formula fighter would get too much praise.

Why did someone post that picture of Sheik? I read someone saying something along the lines of:

"That screen shot of Smash Bros is just fan art

*insert picture here*

I'm starting a rumor about THIS picture. Here we go now."

That picture looks like Deviantart stuff. It isn't even that good of a mock up of offical art. The Gaga Street Fighter pic was much better.

Sony has a few. Kratos, Sly Cooper, Ratchet & Clank, Jack & Daxter, Sackboy, Killzone series, Nathan Drake, Medievil, Death Junior, Folklore, etc. Those characters as well as others, both from those games and others, provide plenty to work with. Certainly more than were in Smash 64.

I'm not crying for this game to be made, just saying that sony has ownership of enough characters to pull it off. I'd really have to look and see what properties MS owns to figure out iv they've got enough.

Okay, did a little digging.

And I'll get back on-topic after this, so...

MS has Halo, GoW, Banjo Kazooie, Conker, Azurik, Viva Pinata, Perfect Dark, Infinite unciscovery, lost odyssey, blinx,.kung fu choas, and others. Few of these series have the cultural cache of the franchises represented in brawl though.

So could they? Yes. Should they? No.

Yeah that Banjo in SC thing is a pretty dumb statement. Yoda may be an alien with a high tech laser sword, but he's not a really cartoony like Banjo or anything, and most importantly, he's a weapon user, which SC is supposed to revolve around.

I still see Banjo as fitting better. He fights like a weapon user in most cases and though he doesn't actually have a set weapon, Kazooie and his backpack serve as ones for a lot of his moves. Plus, Banjo wouldn't destroy the High/Mid/Low system.

No Banjo.

But if we are going to be off topic, how about this: IF the rumors are true and SC is going to be on the Cafe, then who will the guest character be?

Soul Caliber has had:
Link, Spawn, Heihachi, Llloyd, Yoda, and Darth Vadar. What about Marth? Or Maybe Link again? Isaac? CAEDA? (I hope that burns someone)

I used to love SC, and Link was awesome. His throw was the ultimate ring-out weapon.

The sheik picture looks fake. It looks a lot like it would be a console remake of OoT. And... we're obviously not getting one. <_<

Hisaharu Tago said you won't be surprised who the guests are this time compared to Yoda and Darth Vader.

in all seriousness, Super Smash Bros. is better left without a subtitle. Super Smash Bros. IV could be a good one over 4... i mean look at King of Fighters... it went from putting the year it released to roman numerals.
the americanization of SSB's subtitles are melee and brawl while the primary title in japan was Nintendo All Star! Great Melee Smash Brothers but added deluxe for 2nd incarnation and X for the third.
what more could the japanese title have?

Remember how hype it was to start up melee and here "Super smash brothers MMMMMEEELEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!"

I love there announcers. :3
