How does Krystals furry fans have anythign to do with her fanbase drying up because of kid icarus? Like really. You cant like two people at the same time? Youre reasoning is insane.
We will see.... <grins>

My logic is sound and I stand to gain.

I just think it's funny how quickly you go from this:

I think most of the people here speculating on characters are wasting their time. I know I am holding off on making serious character predictions until next year at the earliest.

In 2009 and 2010, I did not say much in terms of character speculation, only offering my two cents whenever a new Nintendo game is announced or released. I check on this thread from time to time as well.
However, the anger and vitriol is definitely off-putting, especially for something as childish as this.
to this:

Hahahahahaah.

Also, no one gives a **** about that tutorial lord called Lyn.

Also, Arcadenik deserves a badge through cutting down the nonsense that wafts through this thread.
Also, in terms of "attractiveness" I assume there are a lot more "normal" perverts than furry perverts. A LOT MORE. Since a lot of Krystal's popularity is driven by her lack of clothes, I assume a human with a lack of clothes will be a heck of a lot more popular than an animal-human thing with a lack of clothes.
My logic is sound and I stand to gain.
:ohwell:

I said I post from time to time. I am probably going to be gone for a couple of weeks. I just get agitated when I see nonsense.

Anyway, I have a massive word document just in regards to Smash 4. However, most of it was written back in 2008. I can say that my information about Toad, Pichu, and Young Link in that document has been rendered obsolete thanks to new developments.

I am going from this thread for now. See you guys in a couple of weeks.

I will only return if someone addresses me either directly or indirectly.

A very important thing to keep in mind is that one game can change a character's prospects. Back in 2008, while Toad had his fans, a lot wrote him off. However, due his playable role and the extremely high sales of New Super Mario Bros. Wii (its now the highest selling console game EVER in Japan), Toad's fans have a lot more confidence than they did previously, and a lot of Toad-sympathizers are jumping the Toad bandwagon. It is also the reason why I am paying close attention to many future releases (particularly Donkey Kong Country Returns). A new release can either raise a character's chances to heaven or **** them to hell. Its for this reason that I will hold off to updating my character speculation until I feel the time is right (basically when I feel that development for Smash 4 will begin). I am paying close attention to any talk of a Wii2, because if a Wii2 begins development, a Smash 4 won't be far behind...

Edit: I will come back to put my two-cents in regards to any developments in regards to Metroid series representative prospects when Metroid: Other M is released a month from now.

It's going purdy good. I see that you have twice as many posts as me in this massive thread.

I don't think Krystal's on the path to replacing Falco, but I don't really care. I just want SOMETHING new to happen in the world of Star Fox (and of course, for Krystal to be involved).

I just dont see why someone would deem her unimportant, and falco important.

Because Falco was a member of the original team an dhas massive fan appeal, while Krystal is in the more recent (less stellar) games and has a massive hate crowd.
Plus she sucks.

Why Someone Would Deem Krystal Unimportant:

1) She was added to the team after her role in a game that deviated from the expected gameplay of the series

2) She looks out of place with the rest of the team

3) Her most common role is Fox's love interest

4) She was not in Super Smash Bros. Brawl as a playable character

Why Someone Would Deem Falco Important

1) He's bad-***

2) He was in Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Might be because we know where we stand on a lot of stuff. Or it might be because you're a loafer who can't be bothered to buy Monster Hunter.

I'll try the Krystal thing I guess. Also for Shortie.

@Shortie: Trying to word this right, bear with me.

When a character is playable in Smash, there's a certain... mainstream factor, I guess, that propels them to be strongly associated with a series. It also has that effect on the series' relation to Nintendo as a whole like with Mother or Fire Emblem. Guess you could call it "self-fulfilled popularity," since all it takes is for a character to appear in Smash for people to suddenly treat that character or series very seriously. Sheik and Jiggs are pretty good examples of this.

I don't know if that necessarily applies to Falco here because I've only played the SNES and 64 games, but even if his role in any new games (past the 3DS remake of course) were to be lesser than Krystal's, the public perception that Falco is Fox's right-hand man probably wouldn't change. Certainly not between each Smash Bros game given the infrequency of the series itself, anyway.

And yeah it is worth mentioning that Krystal herself is a rather polarizing character, what with her design and connections towards the less popular Star Fox games.

also I shouldn't try to write so much while distracted, you kids better respond

edit oh god **** it negative points for everyone who responded so quickly

As of late, I've been kind of conservative as to which games I get. It's not that I'm picky as I just bought BlazBlue Continuum Shift today, it's just that I'm tight on money because I couldn't get a summer job. The next game I'm getting is Other M and that'll likely be the last for a few months until my birthday in October.

Anyway, MH3 sounds like a great game, but can you answer me this: Just how important is the online play? That's been my reason for not getting it. You see, my college only lets you use ethernet ports for consoles for a few reasons I'm not going to go into. My 360 is perfectly fine as I have an ethernet cord for that. It's my Wii that has the issue as I'm not going to spend money on getting a USB adapter for a crappy online service. If offline play gives me good enough replay value, I'll rent it before I buy it.

I don't make anything suck. Just because you are upset that I think Krystal would be worthless to add to Smash 4 and that Mother does not need any more characters gets you on your bad side.

Its pathetic.

I probably could've done 100-150 hours of offline by itself (since that's how much I did with Rune Factory Frontier); online is mostly the same game but obviously you get the multiplayer factor. I will say that online with friends is the primary reason I bought the game.

Technically, the main difference is that offline has one exclusive boss, online has three, and online has what is essentially "hard mode" after you've done everything originally (think New Game+ if everything was stronger and your old equipment was only halfway there).

If you did get online, I'd start a new guy to hang out with you if you're on enough. The people I play with now are losing interest but I'm still pumped.

edit rent it at least and talk about my big post

Its so disappointing. I am rapidly losing interest in video games (most of the games I have purchased over the past several years have been games released during the 90's). The only multplayer series I have invested any time in anymore are the Smash Bros. games.

My most recent purchase was Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters which was released all the way back in 1991. The only games that I got in 2010 that were released this year or recently were Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Castlevania: The Adventure Rebirth.

Okay, I'll look into it.

As for the post, I never thought of it as self-fulfilled popularity, but that's a nice observation. Other than that, I don't have much to say as I pretty much agree with what you said.

I suggest you play Ace Attorney Investigations.

Assuming you only have a Wii and DS, I don't know what else to recommend.

I have played and beaten both the first and third Phoenix Wrights (heck I even contemplated changing my avatar to Godot). I have seen some videos of Investigations and even played the demo of it, and it did not capture my interest the same way the other two Phoenix Wright games did.

Yeah, the only current gen console I own is a Wii, which is funny considering that I usually have all the major consoles during each console cycle (heck, I even had some poor-selling systems like the Dreamcast, Sega Saturn, and Virtual Boy). I chalk this due to my depreciating interest in modern video games. However, I still have a lot of my retro consoles hooked up, and I have quite a bit of backlog for them. NES, SNES, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and PlayStation all have games that I need to beat.

Uh oh, stuff's getting serious again.
Hey Flyin, haven't seen you in a while! Although I have been absent for a bit as well. My "heated discussion with MasterWarlord on the topic of Black Shadow Vs. Samurai Goroh drove me away from this place, just for a break.

In response to your post, yes. That seems to happen when ChronoBound enters the scene (no offense CB, I admire your deep character speculation).

Anytime Flyipininpopio posts with his signature, orphans get new bicycles and other good things happen.
Quoted. For. Truth.

As for all the Star Fox stuff, I'm not sure what would happen. I really don't see them with four slots in SSB4, which means most likely no Krystal. People are right in that she is popular, but she also has a quite a hatebase, which is mostly because she tends to represent or be associated with the era of Star Fox that started going down hill and strayed too far from it's roots.

I'm betting we will stay with Fox, Falco, and Wolf. That's the most likely possibility. But, if Krystal did get in, she would replace either Falco or Wolf, obviously. Falco has already been in two Smash games. I don't know if that would mean it's too late for him to be cut or not. Sakurai may want to keep him since he's been around this long. Wolf is a newcomer, so his chances o being cut for that reason are more likely. However he is a villain, which makes him seem more appealing.

While there is a chance that one of them could be cut, I believe the chances are quite small.

Krystal has as many haters as fans. Also, the evidence about Wolf's popularity over Krystal no longer exists because it was anecdoctal based off of Japanese forums. However, regardless of what evidence I use, you will refute it considering you are a diehard Krystal fan. There are better females anyway. I expect Krystal's popularity to dry up once Kid Icarus Uprising is released....
Why would Krystal's popularity dry up when Kid Icarus Uprising is released? There is literally no correlation between the two. That statement makes absolutely no sense. Unless you're trying to say because there will be two girls suddenly people will stop liking Krystal. Which is the worst logic ever, so I hope that isn't the case.

Sorry to spark a Krystal debate. I'm not really a big fan of her (read: she took Peppy's place which makes me mostly dislike her) but I think they could get a really unique moveset out of her. Plus she's playing a pretty important role in the games, so I think she has high potential. But I think this would only really happen if they actually released a new Star Fox game (the fact that they haven't made a Star Fox Wii is so disappointing there's like a million awesome control options) otherwise her chances are definitely lower.

Very scary ruins
Chronobound shakes the cage and I love it. Does anyone really like Krystal that much? Seriously when she's discussed it generates more rage and hatred than when Tingle is brought up.

But that comment about Krystal's popularity drying up because of Kid Icarus... I'm a bit confused about that.

Allow me to explain. One of the main tenets that is argued in regards to Krystal's favor is the supposed unique moveset that she would possess. Namely, a disjointed hitbox that is not a sword, hammer, or Snake's knee.

Look at what Palutena is holding:

Same reason why I have seen Smash fans of Lyn, Samurai Goroh, and Takamaru clobber each other.... (alll use katanas and would likely use a Japanese swordplay style).

The argument about a staff is no longer in Krystal's favor.

Who will become Smash Bros.'s first (and probably only) staff user?

Anyone else find it weird that Palutena is wearing a stocking on one leg, but not the other? It just doesn't seem very practical.

I still don't think there's much correlation between Palutena being reintroduced and thus destructing Krystal's popularity as I feel that the majority of people who want her in want her in because they like her character to some degree, but you do merit a good point that Palutena could have different weapon combat as well. I'm just glad your argument wasn't "lol2girls cancel each other out."

I think Palutena and Medusa's chances are heavily reliant on how well Kid Icarus Uprising does, their role in the game, and if Sakurai is indeed the one to make the next one. I think it would be kind of weird if both were added considering three fighters for two games (technically three, but the GBA one is just a remake isn't it?) seems a bit odd, but I think I'll hold out my judgement on the two until the new game arrives.

I don't think it really matters how well Kid Icarus Uprising sells. The Smash creator himself is working on this game so why wouldn't he not want to add characters he revived in Smash?

I mean, yes, Sakurai didn't add his own creations, King Dedede and Meta Knight, until the third Smash game. But its just because they were Sakurai's own creations and he didn't want to put his own creations over others' creations.

Palutena and Medusa are not Sakurai's own creations in the same sense that Lucas is not Sakurai's own creation. Didn't Sakurai help work on Mother 3? Maybe Sakurai may be a bit biased toward Lucas that he finally added Lucas in Smash even though Mother 3 was a niche game. Maybe Sakurai is now biased toward Palutena and Medusa even though Kid Icarus Uprising is a niche game (for now).

So because they both wield staffs, they must have similar playstyles? That's like saying all sword users play the same, and we have results that say otherwise. Come on, you're better than this.

Have you even played Starfox Adventures? Do you know for sure that Palutena would have a similar style as Krystal because that stuff she's holding reminds me of Sailor Pluto's Garnet Rod:

http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc47/gracigloo/Sailor_Pluto_01.jpg
If you've ever watched Sailor Moon, you'd know that a similar rod/staff would likely be best suited for a defensive style. The manga's additional attacks also support this.

Unless Palutena has abilities with that staff including but limited to fire balls, ice spray, jet propulsion, creating earthquakes, and generating barriers, I don't see any reason why the two can't get in other than your sheer bias against Krystal.

@Arc
I don't think Sakurai helped with MOTHER 3 as I don't think he was found in the credits. We do know that he did want Lucas in Melee but that was cut short due to MOTHER 3's development hell.

@LostAddict
My guess for the one stocking might be for asymmetrical aesthetics.

Well,(for the staff-thing) dont alot of people want Bowser Jr? He uses that paintbrush like a staff. How many staff characters do we need? Im just trying to bring up another point here(maybe im not getting it across so well). Im neutral on the whole Krystal/Palutena/Medusa thing

Who says I'm hating on Palutena? I don't see a reason, aside for rep issues, that we can't have both Krystal and Palutena.

In fact, in the pre-Brawl days, I thought she'd be an interesting character.

Mind you, that like fighting and sword styles, there are different styles of rod/staff wielding some of which depend on whether or not a weapon attached (i.e. Seung Mina from Soul Calibur). In this case, Bowser Jr.'s "staff" has bristles attached to the end of it.

Anyway, there's enough stuff out there, I'm sure of, that can give him a full moveset without extensive use of the brush.

It will be fun watching the fireworks once Palutena's popularity emerges... Heck, I can already taste the fear of the Krystal-fans.... its bitter...

Sakurai probably did work on Mother 3 to some extent considering that HAL was the main development studio for Mother 3 (when it was in development for Nintendo 64).
