I watched him get sworn in but I had to leave for class right after. I'm out of class now so I'm gonna go watch the rest of it now until my ride gets here.

I recorded it so i'm gonna watch that poem when I get home ^.^

I was rather underwhelmed by all this.

It's a great moment for history, but it doesn't change my life at all. Also I switched off when the poem started, so I never heard it.

Great speech on obama's part, I hope he can live up to the hype enough so people dont start downing him when things don't happen as fast as they it will

Could Biden have gotten a bigger bible?

I still think Obama's gonna be assassinated.
I've been thinking this since the beginning. Why do you think Hillary tried to be his Vice at one point?

Mindgames.

Still waiting to form my opinion of him until he actually starts doing things.
I like you. Someone who hasn't been swept away by all this Obama hype. If only more people were like you and didn't jump to conclusions about Obama being The Messiah, then perhaps people wouldn't be so crushed when he doesn't pull off superhuman feats.

My class watched it, and it was annoying, They turned off the lights and I couldn't read. Then I tried to give him a thumbs down, but my arms got tired.
It was overall pretty stupid and foolish to even care about. I didn't even pay attention during the national anthem.

I take it you're in middle school or early high school.

Anyway, I was able to catch it between classes after all (saw my schedule incorrectly before); they showed it live on the giant screens in the university's giant auditorium.

It was pretty awesome to see our new president get sworn in.

To those who think he's "another slimy politician": you're wrong. I know that most politicians are, and I can totally understand why they've left a horrible taste in your mouth. But those who have done research on Obama and his past can tell you he is different; he is not flawless, by any means. But he's certainly not a "slimy politician" like all the others, and you should be happy someone like him is in office.

That was the case with the Ayatollah Khomeini of Iran... Power changes a man. Trust me, even if Obama's a fantastic man, he'll easily be pressured and pushed into decisions he may not want to make. His presidency doesn't give him absolute power. Unfortunately, even though he is the President, we have many other scummy politicians in the Senate. Let's just hope Obama can actually deliver on his promises. I haven't formed an opinion yet, and I think it would be wise for all to observe his actions in office before making any solid judgments.

Why so pessimistic?

Hell, if George Bush wasn't assassinated, how do you know if Barack Obama will be?

Personally, I'm glad he is the President now. I have great faith in this man, for some reason.

I hate to bring up the race card, but were just going to have to deal with it. Barack Obama would be more likely to be assassinated over Bush because of his race. Pure and simple.

I understand the dude is African American.

However, the entire human race hated Bush, whether he was white or not.

Well not the entire human race considering he was elected again. Not to mention he had one of the highest approval ratings after 9/11 for any president. However, being Bush's approval rating now was like 20-something, that's why so many people hate him. Also, a lot of people talk **** about Bush but are actually uneducated on the subject, and end up having no idea what they or talking about, or they're just following a fad that says "it's cool to hate Bush". Again, the reason Barack has a higher chance than Bush, despite his approval ratings, is his race, and the fact that racists still live in this country.

You should honestly change your name to 'The Politically uninformed Robot has left" because you obviously are racist or you have no idea of the significance of the event that just transpired. We have a politician in the highest authority in office that got the world on our side again.

1. You make it sound like it's been eons. We've only had one president between Obama and our last Democratic president. That isn't the combo breaker here.
2. Well, obviously. With the help of his administration and Congress, yes, he has to do something. Are you trying to say that McCain wouldn't have "done something" about the economy?
3. You can't use "people like Obama" as a reason for why people like Obama.

I've got an idea. How about you throw a shoe at the President and time how long it takes for a member of the Secret Service to introduce you to his biceps.

I'm pretty tolerant of the political views of others, but arbitrary Obama hate is absolutely ridiculous to me. I can understand if you preferred McCain, or just don't agree with the Democratic party's values, but Obama hasn't done anything yet. You have no reason to be taking shots at him. At least wait for him to actually **** up first.

1.8 years is a long time to run a country and Bush did decent.Although Decent may not be enough
2.Mccain supported the War which may not help our Economy at all
3.Look at the Polls
4.Remember that this is all Opinion

Sorry, but anybody who says Bush did "decent" doesn't know what they're talking about. I'll look for it later if I get time, but a number of independent historians got together and concluded that Bush was either the worst or one of the worst presidents.

McCain supporting or not supporting something doesn't mean anything. The fact is, the economy is going down the toilet, and any president would make it one of his (or her) top priorities, regardless of whatever else may be going on.

Polls irrelevant, Circus was saying that saying someone is popular is not a reason you can use to say they were liked (because, well, obviously if they were popular, they were liked; you were just repeating yourself and he was pointing that out).

Not all of it is opinion, a lot of it is fact. Even then, opinions can be wrong. The best opinions are those backed up by fact, as they can be justifiable and more correct than opinions that are not.

I agree, I guess she put "soul" in it. I especially hate it when people murder the national anthem at football and baseball games. Those songs aren't meant to showcase your talent

1. I realize this. But saying "we haven't had a democrat in..." makes it sound like Clinton was president decades ago, which isn't the case. Yeah, it's been 8 years, but looking at it by number of terms, we've only spent the last two terms with a republican. That's not a particularly long drought as far as party turn-over goes.

2. This is true. But the fact remains that the President, regardless of who it ended up being, would have to take steps toward attempting to improve the economy. Even if McCain would've made economic choices that didn't help, he would still have done what he thought was best. Claiming that Obama's the only one between the two who would've "done something" about the economy is misleading.

3. I didn't say Obama wasn't more popular than Bush. I said that using that as a reason for why he's well-liked is circular, and thus an invalid reason. You were trying to use your claim as a reason that your claim was true.

4. I know. I'm not trying to attack you here. I just happened to have something to say about every one of your points. :p

Edit: GoldShadow ninja'd me with his brevity. Curse me and my long-winded ramblings!

Hey well in the end, at least (most of) the people in this thread are interested in politics, regardless of which way opinion lean! It's a lot better than all the apathy I see around me in real life.
