Ok the well this Melrose hall place is ****ing booked on the 17th already by someone else. So I'm I've booked another place, but it's only 5 min walk further, also in Emu Plains. I've already called and they're putting theough an application now. It's gonna be a bit more expensive unfortunately. It'll be like $210 for 12 hours and we can't book it for any less. The downside to this is having very limited prizes on the day. But hey, nobody plays smash for the money right.... right?

Anyway, point being. 17th of January, try to be there at 9am for a 9:30 start. I'll be there at 8:30, Emu Plains community centre, Lawson Street, Emu Plains, about 25 min walk form the station. Let me know if you're going to bring a TV and I'll try and organise a lift from the station.

I'll put rules etc. up in the first post when i have more time.

Oh and everyone, get EVERYONE you know to come, even if they don't play smash. :p

That way we might actually get some good prizes from the day. Remember the trick is to say "I guarentee you that you won't be the worst player there" even if they will.

if there's still going to be melee then you can add another 4 people for the Hornsby crew

Ok the first post has been edited as the official rules etc. post.

So let me know if you're coming now and I'll add you to the list. Also anyone who could bring a TV/wii/melee/brawl that would be much appreciated.

I've been waiting for tournamemts like these. Nice and convenient, decent entry fee and fair distance from Rooty Hill. I'm in tedeth, thanks for making it less complicated as possible.

Someone told me to come and that I wouldn't be the worst player there so I might go if i can make it.

Nice work setting all this up Tedeth, a nice initiative indeed.

Re Melee: Are there no counterpicks outside the nuetrals? Cos there are legit counterpick stages. I'd suggest considering at least

Brinstar
Rainbow Ride
DK64
Pokefloats
Jungle Japes
Corneria

And possibly a few others as counterpick (although most people CP nuetrals anyways)

Interested in going. Can bring a Wii + brawl unless other transport comes up (no way am I taking a TV onto a train for so many hours)

Also, what's happening food/drink wise? is there going to be pizza runs and BYO drinks?

Another thing, I'm assuming the normal tourney rules apply for chain grabbing and stalling seeing as though there's no mention ogfthem in the first post.

What rules on chain grabbing and stalling? :O

Only rules I'm aware of is the contract agreed to upon entry into the tournament that any stalling done by a player waiver's their Human Right to be free of abuse (physical/verbal).

S.D has always been there with his wifebeater waiting to beat up woman-look-alike stallers. I think the fear works well.

Only $10 for the day. How many people do you expect are going to come and will prizes be given out for all events?

With the venue at $210 we are going to need at least 30 people to show up to have some decent prize money for one event to get prizes. With 30 attendees brawl singles can get a decent 60/30/10 prize pool ($54/$27/$9 or round it off at $55/$25/$10). With this though doubles and melée will get no prize money at all.

If the entry fee was $15 then it would only take 14 attendees to pay the venue. Now if only 20 people show up then a prize pool like the above can happen (Although changing the ratio to $50/$25/15 may be better so at least third place gets their entry fee back). However I think you should get at least a little more than 20 judging by boost attendence. This would give a prize pool for melée singles, 26 total attendees would result in a prize pool to match the brawl singles. Now I think 26 attendees is quite achievable. However if it reaches the 30 attendence mark then there would be $60 prize pool for the brawl doubles, which can probably go to the winnng team at $30 each player.
So I think entry should be at $15 for the day, but that's only my opinion it's still up to you tedeth as you are the TO.

Another option is instead of doubles getting a prize pool, the initial registration fee is reduced to a maximum of $10 to guarantee venue payment. Or perhaps going towards food/drinks.

More suggestions brought to you by Thomas.

a tv and wii, and maybe a second tv.

I agree with you on that note but since it's tedeth tourney and he, as far as I know, is predominately a brawl player. But we will leave it up to him to decide anyways.

Well even with 30 people at $10 entry that will only allow either brawl or melée singles a decent prize pool. I also estimate a turn out of about 25 people for this event ( although 30+ would be great) and if it is $10 entry then there would only be $40 for prizes which is no where enough to give to the top 3 of any singles event. The best we could do with that would be $30 to 1st and $10 to 2nd.
Now 25 people at $15 entry would give $165 total prize pool. This is enough to give a decent prize amount for both singles event.
I don't think an extra $5 is going to brake the bank. Also the more prize money available the more interest there is for people to attend. Especailly if melée has a close to or similar prize pool to brawl. This would attrack the melée players as well and get the attendence up even more , hopefully to 30+, which in turn would get a decent monetry prize amount for 1st place team.
Saying this though I don't think anymore than $60 should be allocated to brawl teams and that only 1st place in teams should be given a prize. Reason I say this is that the focus of the tourney is singles and that most of the prize pool should be allocated to those events. With if possible having brawl and melée prizes the same or close to. However it is up to tedeth in he end how he wishes to allocated prizes.

@Tedeth
Exactly how are the poules going to work? Is it like a poule of 5 with everyone playing everyone else in the same poule then the top 2 of each poule moving to the double elimination format? Also what about if the poules can't all have the same people in them. Does it play through the same exept that those in a poule with less poeple play less matches in the pouie rounds.

How can you say that when you are neither an expert nor a commendable player in either Brawl or Melee? "0 skil involved in it". *sigh* Gords. Not to come out as a complete douche but seemingly agreeing to Tom's silly banter is silly

tbh we've been playing tournaments without prize money because of the stupid gotgames thing and apparently we're not going to see much of that money because shaya is gonna book some ridiculous venue for the regional finals so i dont think it really matters all that much about the money.

All the money in the smashbank belongs to me anyways *cries*

Brawl doubles should be the main event seeing as me and Turtle are specialists in this field

Ok. I'll try to clear up all questions asked so far in this one post.

Chaingrabbing rules are simple and should really be common sense. D3 infinites are obviously banned. Hence the certain stage bans. D3's infinite on DK are banned aswell. IC's infinte chaingrab is considered stalling past 300%, but i don't think we have to worry about that too much. Infinite release grabbing is banned aswell but once again, common sense.
MK's infinte dimentional cape obviously banned as that's considered stalling. Anyone caught stalling will be disqualified.

Prize money will be determined on the day. Originally I thought we'd be in a cheaper venue which would have allowed for really good prizes. Worst case scenario, no prizes. If there are only small prize pots then only first place will take the prizes. As I've stated before somewhere, no prizes for doubles.

In the poules, yes everyone will play 2 games against everyone else in the poule. I'm gonna try to make the poules as even as possible like not have all the best players in one poule for obvious reasons. The amount of people in the Double elims will depend on how fast we get through the poules and how many we have in attendance on the day. I'll have a better idea of how this will go when I get more names on my attendance list.

If there is anything I missed then let me know. Feel free to ask questions that aren't ******** or self explanitory.

Oh and just for further clarification of how the poules work, your final seeding isn't based on amount of wins, it's the ratio of wins to losses so a bigger poule doesn't hav an advantage.

Edit: In terms of food/drink there is a maccas in walking distance and I believe that the venue is quite close to emu plains shops so we'll be pretty set. In terms of drink I'll be bringing a couple of cases of soft drink. There's actually a fridge at the venue so that will be good. Bring your own food and drink if you want but there will def be stuff available.

I was seemingly agreeing to "brawl should get 0 prize money" rather than "0 skill involved in it". And yes I was just being silly and seemingly agreeing to Tom's silly banter. Guess that does make you a complete douche as you seemingly disagreed to my silly banter.

Anyways

@ prize issue

I'm not really fused about prize money for myself as I will be lucky if I get any anyway, I was just making it aware that only $5 difference in entry makes a big change to the prize pool ($125 when 25 people attend).
@ComboTurtle
To my knowledge the only tourney we played without prize money since the gotgames thing started was Dont Come, Shaya's boost events all had at least enough money in the prize pool to cover 1st-3rd placings in brawl singles. However I am aware that the venue came exeptionally cheap.
@ tedeth
Like I said, your tourney your say, either way I will be there. Although I may need to leave around 6pm ::(: this means the wii, brawl & melée I bring will be leaving at 6pm also.

If it's looking like the prize pools will be **** then i'll increase it to $15 entry but that depends on the turnout. So if you are going and you're not on the list LET ME KNOW.

In the case that tehre will only be enough prize money for one event, it will go to the player who ends up with the best results over the whole day in melee singles and brawl singles combined.

How did you come to that conclusion? I won the last two Boosts and I has no moneyz to show for it? (Apart from the $20 I donated to Jason's charity). All the cash was being 'pouled' for flights and shiz for gotgames, which is now going to be eaten by venue costs anyways.
