Ew UNSW, why would you build a university in the middle of nowhere? USyd all the way =D

University squabbles aside, welcome to the scene! It was nice meeting you, and I look forward to seeing you at future meets/tourneys =)

On a related note, thanks again for coming to the meet everyone, we all had a great time, and hopefully I'll be able to organise another one in the not-too-distant future =)

Sounds great! How's on-campus living? I stayed at the Philip Baxter college for the UNSW Day Trippers Program and the rooms were tiny. Apparently quite a few of the college students are a bit rowdy too.

Are you or Zero helping out at O-Week?

As it turns out, guys, i couldn't come, had to pull out at the last second due to trackwork and all that stuff.

I'm actually considering something though.... How would you guys feel if I tried hosting a tournament or meet? I know it sounds pretty rediculous at first, but consider that my family is absolutely fine with it. If it's a tourny i'd need a bit of help, but if it were a meet it'd be even easier. Look, I don't mind what happens there, buuuut....

How do you feel about the proposal?

Hosting a tourney would be a lot more work than you realise, but I would definitely be up for a meet at your place =D. Uni goes back in March, so I'd have to make sure I'm not busy, but other than that I'll do my best to make it to whatever gets planned =)

Yeah I had a feeling that would be the case, but a meet sounds reasonably good. I'll think about looking in to it, if people are willing to come all the way up to the central coast :D

I would make an effort to go, Luco.

However knowing where you live I think you'll find attendance will be limited primarily by the number of people who can drive others. just fyi

Ok, i'll see if I can contact somewhere like Woy woy, which'll make it much easier seeing as many of the rentable places are pretty much right next to the train station, if i remember correctly. I'll look in to it. But be aware, I'll need a couple of TVs and quite a few Wiis to make this work.

I wouldn't advise renting a place just for a meet.

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply it would be a problem, just meant it as more of a heads-up. Even 2 cars is enough for decent attendance. I'd be very surprised if Gords wouldn't be interested in going, that is 4-5 western sydney people right there.

alternatively, you could go ahead with finding a place to rent and go all out tourney hosting
=D
As great as that would be, probably not the best idea for a first time event host

Just keep it simple. No one's going to complain that you're not running a tourney, a casual house meet is great =)

Yeah hosting -anything- for the first time is stressful enough by itself, adding a tournament onto that can only make it worse even without the hassle of finding/renting a venue.

I wouldn't normally rent a place just for a meet, but the fact of the matter is where I live is far too obscure for you guys to catch a train, even driving is tedious. (And there's also Mum, who doesn't exactly want 10-20 people crowding up our relatively small house :-P ).

So yeah, i wouldn't normally, but the situation kinda calls for it. It's not much of a problem really, I'd be happy to do it. :)

Luco I reckon you don't need to worry about it too much. We're ok with driving wherever (you'd be surprised where people have been willing to drive for smash). Honestly you should expect less than 10 people over, meets are not like tourneys, not everyone goes to them. Western Sydney meets consistently have under 5 people at them and we're an active region of nsw.

I'm glad you're willing to go the extra mile to make this better but at the end of the day all we'll be doing is playing some games and going out for lunch. There really is no need to acquire extra space since there is no pressing concern of finishing something on time or managing a large amount of people. Believe me when I say that no matter how small your place is, we've all been more cramped before (htc, major tourney housing, etc).

Aside from a slightly better location (which is realistically an extremely minor concern) renting a place will achieve almost nothing, it will just be a waste of money.

luco your place couldnt be that far out of the way for most people especailly if they are driven, i can assure you that the people who are most likely to go to a meet your way would have travelled further, me for example have travelled on the train and back to maitland (over 6hrs) just for 2 hours of smash in the past.

i say you shouldnt host a tourney, meet is the best thing to do. and it should be at your place, ask your parents first on where their boundaries lie before continuing to discus it here, that way you can find out how they feel about something like a meet. you should expect similar numbers to invisis meet which was about 10 iirc, if your parents are uncomfortable with that no one here will think of you any less.
