Nintendo has announced that the 3DS' price will be cut from $249.99 to $169.99. (click for info)

Early adopters of the 3DS will receive 20 free games on the eshop, 10 from an NES virtual console and 10 from a GBA virtual console.

I'm pretty pissed. I'd rather have my 80 bucks back than 20 games, most which I'll probably rarely play.
Nice. But I'm still going to wait for the 3DS Lite. :p

If anybody was holding out for a price drop, it came a year early so go get 'em. ;o
Don't think I've ever seen a handheld get a price drop this fast. Nintendo must be scrambling to increase sales and to give it a price advantage against the PS Vita.

Also, this isn't the PC guys, discuss pokemon there.

I was almost really, really pissed until I saw that we get free games!
I only paid $100 for my console since I traded in my DSiXL, so this is like a win-win for me!

☯ I can finally afford a 3DS. Strange, price drop before a number of 1st parties being in stores. Oh well, not complaining. =3

omg omg omg

I knew a 3DS price drop was probably imminent, but that's really awesome of them to give out so many free games.

GBA games no less! I was afraid those wouldn't even come to the eShop.

Nintendo has no future plans to release the GBA games to the public? Does that mean early adopters literally get exclusive content?

That game's like $6, can you seriously not afford that when you already put down 250 for the 3DS?

I was kidding.

But hey, the 3DS is one my brother bought (We share our stuff) and I am unemployed. That money can be better spent on necessities. :awesome:

So should I get the 3DS full price with all those free games? Or is it better to wait for the price cut? Would those 10 free GBA and 10 free NES games come out to 80 bucks?

I knew that the 3DS was gonna get a price drop, but the fact that it was so soon is surprising. If anything, it shows that Nintendo messed up on the 3DS' launch and didn't have much foresight, thinking that the DS name would be enough to carry it. Hopefully they'll be more quality games out soon in addition to the price drop.

EDIT: According to the article on 1 Up Nintendo is trying to get a lot of games out before the year is up. Hopefully this won't effect the quality of those games.

Exact official details:
Price drop from 25,000 yen to 15,000 yen, effective August 11
Similar price drop effective sometime between July and September overseas
Super Mario 3D Land to be released in November
Mario Kart 7 to be released in December

Early adopters get:
Super Mario Bros., Donkey Kong Jr., Balloon Fight, Ice Climber, The Legend of Zelda, plus five more NES games
Super Mario Advance 3 (Yoshi's Island), Mario Kart Advance, Metroid Fusion, Made in Wario, Mario vs Donkey Kong, plus five more GBA games

NES games will not support simultaneous 2-player play or manuals until official release in eShop; early adopters with the older versions can upgrade to the multiplayer-compatible version for free.

GBA games will never have manuals. You'll have to find those online.

There are no current plans to sell the GBA games as paid releases.

If you want the GBA and NES games, buy the full price 3DS. It's not that difficult to figure out.

I doubt the combined value of those titles will come close to $80 in pure money terms, but Nintendo did select quality titles for nostalgic gamers, so the choice kinda boils down to how much you like old-school classics.

Too bad the title I want the most, Riviera, probably won't end up on that list. :<

I'm not satisfied at all with these 20 free games, because most of the games I would never buy if available on the eShop. I feel robbed eight dollars. I'd rather them just give me Mario Kart 3DS for free, even if that was it.

That's a HUGE price drop. Really quite steep.

I would be really happy for this, 20 free games sounds fantastic. However, I don't have Wi-Fi. And the 3DS won't connect to any internet connections anywhere I go. The thing is cursed. >_>

So yeah, thanks Nintendo. Even though I'm an early adopter, I might get screwed out of this offer because I don't have wireless internet. That doesn't sound right. Sony got around this with allowing the PSP to connect through the USB drive of a computer and you can upgrade it from the internet on the computer. I wish Nintendo could have done something like this. I really hate their complete and total reliance of wireless internet. WE DON'T ALL HAVE IT, NINTENDO. and I don't want it to replace wired internet because it is unreliable.

250 USD down to 120 USD?

I'm also certain they could trace your serial number to date of purchase.

I'd like a 3D remake of Final Fantasy 5 and 6 on the 3DS. We already got 3 and 4 on the DS

If the 3DS' wireless isn't working why aren't you sending it in?
There's nothing wrong with my 3DS. I was able to get it connected to the internet at my sister's house.

I guess it just can't connect to public Wi-Fi hot spots, because it never works at any of them.

But if it can't connect to public Wifi, isn't that indicative of a problem?

Anyway, I never got a chance to play the original FFT, that would be cool (although it's possible Sony has some sort of something on it, but I doubt it)

I'm not sure how it could. Obviously, there's nothing wrong with its ability to connect to Wi-Fi, it's just that I haven't been able to find a place that offers Wi-Fi that is compatible for the 3DS.

That's odd, because I've found plenty. You just have to configure it each time.
