Though while we're on the subject of "honorary Nintendo characters", does anyone have any particular ones in mind? I still view KOS-MOS in a similar situation as Bayonetta, personally (Bayonetta=series continuation funded by Nintendo, KOS-MOS=creators bought by Nintendo).
I don't see how those are similar at all, though? Xenosaga is a different series from Xenoblade, despite being made by the same developers.

It'd only really be comparable to Bayonetta if instead of producing Xenoblade, Nintendo decided to license Xenosaga from Namco and fund/publish new games for it. They did license KOS-MOS as a blade in XB2, but that's it.

Would a good idea for a future smash game to have heavies have a degree of projectile resistance (like a passive X percent reduction to damage and/or knockback)? It could be a way of making them better against projectiles without requiring significant alterations to their kits.

I'd prioritize reworks for the Links over all else. Then Ganondorf with maybe a Black Shadow (F-Zero) replacement for most of his old moveset. After that I'd go with the typical normie choice of Skull Kid because that's probably my most hype first-party character want. Impa would be cool too but I want Skull Kid and am looking forward to that Brawl mod that is going to add him eventually. I'm not the biggest fan of the melee mod one but at least it's something for now.

Which heavyweight characters you guys want in smash?
I'm assuming that Eggman would count as a heavyweight, given his size compared to Sonic and the fact that he'd most likely be in a mech, so he's one that I'd like to see.

Porky from Earthbound would make for a nice inclusion. I saw a Smash fangame that had a whole sprite sheet for him, which helped with picturing how he'd work - here's an incomplete version. Plus, Earthbound has more to offer in terms of playable characters than just Ness semi-clones.

Since Edelgard's heavily armoured (at least in her post-time-skip appearance), I think she'd qualify. I would have preferred her over Byleth, though I get that they don't want to make any route seem more important than the others.

Fulgore (KI)
Zangief (SF2)
Heavy (TF2)
Mr. Sandman (Super Punch Out)
Ganon (LoZ)
Zelgius/Black Knight (FE PoR)
... Prolly forgetting some I'm sleepy lol
I'd personally replace Sandman with Doc Louis but this is a good list.

Eggman is another great choice but I have a hard time imagining how he’d work. Dude is nearly twice Sonics’s height outside a mech, so in one he’d probably be the biggest character in the game. It would be interesting to see him realized.

I’d also add Dragon Quest 8’s Yangus and FF7’s Barrett but those two seem like pipe dreams.

Eggman probably would be scaled down in Smash, similar to Palutena and K.Rool who are both not much taller than Pit and Donkey Kong.

I'll be boring and just say Funky Kong, could be a Echo to DK or a semi clone. I just want him more than others.

To change up the subject a little, which characters do you all feel are the most likely to get move set changes ? And name a few changes you'd like to see in characters.

Steve. It's ironic that one of the most casually-appealing characters has such an overly cumbersome moveset. At the very least, they need to not make him completely helpless when he runs out of materials. I mean, other characters who rely on expendables (like Robin and Hero) are still able to use most of their kit outside of B specials, but Steve is crippled out of even being able to use a significant portion of that (DAir relying solely on iron being one of the worst offenders). Not helping is that Steve is unable to restore said expendables automatically, either over time or by building up damage like the others do. No, he has to specifically camp at a safe spot to build up his supplies actively (I don't care if it is home game-accurate, it just doesn't work that well in Smash).

the a monster hunter stories monstie would be a good candidate for a superheavy. You wouldn't get any "generic" complaints like you would with a hunter, and they should just be small enough to be viable as a fighter, though regardless of which monster they chose, it would have one of the biggest hurtboxes.

That gimmick is what makes Steve fun to play though. The ability to strategically manage the resources you gather and utilize them effectively in battle is a unique gimmick that works quite well in a platform fighter like Smash. Also no offense, but Steve would not be fun to play if you take away that cool and strategic depth to him.

I want you to take a look at every single one of Steve's moves that require resources and materials, each and every single one is absurdly good. They all have great utility and insane frame data to back them up. The majority of his tilts and aerials are combo centric moves that have multiple different routes to follow on. If you decide to remove the resource management gimmick then you'll have to change those moves accordingly because they're absolutely ridiculous if you remove their resource limited drawback. What that will result in is a gutted Steve that is not even close to being as fun to play as his current iteration.

Steve in his current form is great, attempting to change his gimmick drastically will destroy his balance as he will either be too strong and broken or too weak and powerless.

They would choose Rathalos most likely.

Rathalos is as wide as an entire stage... and unlike Ridley you can't really scrunch him up to be playable character proportions lol.
The young Rathalos in Monster Hunter Stories isn’t really any bigger than characters already playable in Smash. I think a pairing of Ratha and the MC from Stories would be a fun character in Smash.

Here's a funny thought - if only characters originating from games can be in Smash, why can't we have an absolute icon of gaming as a whole - someone as recognisable as Mario, as unique as Steve, and with as much legacy as Hero?

I just read a pitch for a Clubhouse Games rep... and it's a Chess piece...

NINTENDO HIRE THIS MAN!!!!!!!!

No, do not hire this man. The Clubhouse Games rep must be a (non-copyrighted) Connect Four piece whose main gimmick is being unbeatable if you're a New York jabroni whose name is Vincent Pizzapasta.

I think It’s probably forgotten due to chess in general not being originated as a video game so it can’t really be regarded as a “video” game icon specifically like so many companies made video game chess games but most of them are just the exact same that follows the same chess formula of gameplay.
Adding a chess rep is just like adding monopoly rep both are game icons but not “video” game icon and don’t originate there.

I don't have tons of experience with Pokemon outside of smash but I do recall reading that weight and size is something of a wtf in terms of how some are supposedly crazy heavy or huge... Like Charizard I guess... Point being there's prolly tons of mon that could qualify as a heavy, just I dunno which ones.
