Sakurai: "To capture the feeling of the original game, this fighter will be the biggest character in the roster: bigger than bosses like Master Hand or Dracula. Please understand."
I know nothing about Shadow of the Colossus.
Go and play it, whether the original on PS3 or the remake on PS4. Seriously, it's a great experience.
That aside, the fighter would be the character, Wander or The Wanderer, the swordsman in the photo. While in my favoured scenario, the first Colossus would be a new Boss to go alongside Wander.
Seriously, my dream trailer for Wander would be to have Mario and a bunch of other characters fighting in the Forbidden Lands, only for the earth to start shaking as Valus, the first Colossus appears, with Grotesque Figures starting up, than Valus is revealed as a boss, than after the characters have fought against Valus for a bit, Wander gets Valus' attention with Flash Arrows and is revealed as the playable character. It starts playing "The Opened Way", showing off Wander's moveset, then showcases the forbidden Lands stage, showing off the areas and the Colossi in the stage and then eventually goes to Wander fighting against Valus, and mimics how you fought against Valus in the game, and then it shows a special Down Smash animation for Wander when he gets to the symbol on his head.
At the same time, how do you make them feel full of life instead of fancy statues? Part of the atmosphere is them moving around when climbing imo
How about making it like a travelling stage? Instead of a platform moving around, you can make it so that the colossus moves around and the fighters fall/climb to different parts of it.
Not sure if it's in line with the original game but it's doable.
It'd be best for Forbidden Lands to be a travelling stage as one of the biggest points of Shadow of the Colossus was it's huge overworld that you could explore. It'd first start at the Shrine of Worship, with Mona lying down in the background, and then a platform will rise up and it will go to some of the places where you fought the Colossi while off showing the Forbidden Lands on the way to those places, maybe even showing off the Colossi areas that aren't gone to. Some of the areas where you would fight would be:
-The third Colossi's, Gaius', area, on top of the held-up ruins, where the players first fight around a downed Gaius and can jump on his legs and whatnot, eventually for Gaius to rise and stand himself up and than take a swing with his weapon on the ground where the fighters' are, afterwards it starts heading to the next area.
-The 4th Colossi's, Phaedra's, area with the bunker hills. The players fight on top of the hill areas where eventually, Phaedra comes and investigates the fighters by lowering themselves down, where the fighters have to hop on him and the fighting moves to his long body and head. Hitting Phaedra's head will cause him to shake violently around due to the symbol on his head. Eventually, it goes to the next area.
-The 5th Colossi's, Avion's, area is the ruins surrounded by water. The players fight on top of the platforms where Avion flies towards you when he attacks you. During the battle, you see Avion flying around and every little bit, Avion will fly right to the fighters attempting to hit them. And then eventually, to the next area.
-The 8th Colossi's, Kuromori's, area, in the arena-like area. The players fight inside the arena's walls, with the windows in the background. During the fight, Kuromori's head will look in the windows and look at the fighters, before attacking with his lightning/poison breath attack. After a couple attacks, it goes to the next area.
-The 10th Colossi's, Dirge's, area in the sand cave. The players fight on top of bumpy sand hills and that has a giant rock on one side and a rock pillar on the other. During the battle, the players will see Dirge slowly make their way to the fight, but before he gets there, he does a great leap. A red marker appears showing where he will land before Dirge dives into the sand, hitting any fighters in the way. Once Dirge lands, it goes to the next area.
-The 13th Colossi's, Phalanx's, area in the great sand dune. The fight takes place on the sand at first, but shortly after, Phalanx rises from the sand and the players have to get onto his huge long body. The fighters then fight on top of his body as it explores around the area where it's fought, showing a huge view of the Forbidden Lands, including a cameo of the 6th Colossi's, Barba's, entrance area. Eventually, Phalanx dives back into the sand and then proceeds to the next area.
-The 14th Colossi's, Cenobia's, area in the City ruins. The players fight not just on the ground, but also on top of the ruins. During the fight, Cenobia appears and will start attacking fighters on the ground. The fighters have to stay on top of the pillars and platforms for Cenobia to not attack them, but Cenobia will still attack the pillars the fighters are on, causing the platforms to shake violently and to try to knock the fighters off. Eventually, it goes to the next area.
-The 15th Colossi's, Argus', area, in the Castle ruins. The fighters fight on top of the ruins on one of the big bridges. During the fight, Argus rises from the cliffside and then slowly makes his way toward the bridge. Eventually, he swings his sword and breaks the bridge in half and he moves under the broken part of the bridge. The top half of his body can then be landed on and the players fight on the broken bridge and Argus. Eventually however, it goes to the last area.
-The 16th Colossi, Malus', area, in the rainy battlefield, either on the battlefield or on top of Malus. If the players fight in the battlefield, they'll see the looming Malus in the distance. Malus will fire off gigantic lightning shots at the players. The players have to use the walls and undergrounds to keep safe from Malus' attacks. If the players appear on top of Malus, a confused Malus who feels the fighters on his body, will move his arms up in confusion, his arms becoming platforms for the fighters to fight on as he just looks at them. At some points, he will try to shake any fighters off by shaking his arms.
-After being on Malus' stage for a bit, it then returns to the Shrine of Worship, where before, we only saw Mona lying down. We now arrive at the Shrine of Worship where it shows Mona standing up, alongside Agro. It also shows Ico and Yorda, as well as The Boy from The Last Guardian with Trico. All 6 are watching the fighters, before the stage repeats itself to Gaius' area.
Yes, I overdid it quite a bit, but Shadow of the Colossus was such an amazing experience for me and curse me if I didn't try giving it alot of attention.
