Yes, but generally this thread is a lot of minds with a lot of thoughts, so topics can get expanded or mangled because of it. There's also that "there can only be one" scenarios are common, so if one is brought up, someone's going to feel like the other's merits should be discussed as well.

So yeah, it does happen, but it's rarer.

It's just not her time. She is very Iconic, but like how Geno is stuck in this Weird limbo where while his Merits to being a Playable Smash character is terrible, I would still consider him Likely Because he's heavy in Smash Requests

Lara is stuck in this Weird Limbo where she definitely has the merits to get into Smash, but I don't think in comparison to other characters, she can Clutch a Spot as of right now. she wasn't even in the Seven Squares leak, when Chrono, Geno, Sephiroth, and Sora were, along with the Dragon Quest Characters. I think she will be a Perfect Base roster Character for Smash 6, especially if there are cuts, but not now

I disagree. If Geno has a lot of baggage, and it wouldn't surprise me if Nintendo actively did not want him. For that reason, he's easily far less likely than Lara. I also don't think we'll see Crono or Sephiroth because Crono's game isn't at all relevant, and I don't believe that we'll be seeing a 3rd party character from a series already in the game much less a character from a 3rd party game that is already in the game (EDIT: Especially not Final Fantasy VI since it was so difficult to obtain to begin with). Sora isn't a SquarEnix character, so there's no competition there.

I think the SquareEnix front runners are Bravely Default, Tomb Raider, Nier Automata, and The World Ends With You, though I think the last one is at a disadvantage. Bravely Default is something of an up and coming series I think, and its new game is coming out soon. Nintendo may want to capitalize on that. Tomb Raider is a legendary series that's still active today, making it a genuine contender along the lines of Terry and such. Nier Automata is a breakout hit, and it's been active since then. The buzz may have died down now, but 2B's inclusion would still turn a lot of heads at this point. The World Ends With You...I just don't know enough to count it out honestly. I know it has a recent Switch port, but it's also more of a cult classic than anything. I'm not really confident with it being the pick.

Yeah, as all he has going for him is popularity among hardcore Smash fans.

Popularity is not enough, considering there are many people who have not played Super Mario RPG, especially back then, where his hype was biggest. Despite Sakurai saying he wanted Geno, which may have changed now, the hype about Geno and remembering him may have toned down over the years even before the days of Brawl, despite some people looking at Youtube videos about Geno of any kind.

I'll be honest, what you posted makes sense, and I do kinda disagree and also Agree with the Point about Sephiroth at the same time, I actually agree with everything else

But My Intuition tells me that none of the 4 Franchises you mentioned will get a Character, Especially with Nier since I think It might have been too late for her (Sakurai met Yoko for first time in December 2019, that seems like a Mii Costume to me honestly). I actually do agree with all the Merits you presented for all the characters, and I would add for Neku that He is getting an anime Soon I believe

If Nintendo was doing an SMRPG remake, I could see Them being in faovr of Geno

Otherwise I Kinda find it hard to see them pick Geno. Like if Sakurai was really in favor of it, then perhaps they could let it slide since he is Heavy in the Smash Scene, but Like I said in the Geno thread, Geno has problems even appealing to Nintendo and Mario Fanbase. the Only Fanbase he would really appeal too in my Opinion is the Smash Fanbase. He's Against all Odds, more than any other Character in the game. If he gets in it needs to be turned into a Documentary

And the Geno fans just seem to want to ignore those facts. Not so reliable evidence that they call it aside, the only thing those Geno fans have as true evidence is the fan demand they have for them. That alone won't do the job, as other characters, even Banjo-Kazooie had more than just fan demand, even if other DLC characters had less of it. Those other characters still had more legacy and have more mass appeal and importance than Geno has. It's sad the Geno fans do not seem to realize all this.

In this older interview, Sakurai mentions he shares a birth year with Ico creator Fumito Ueda.

Given that its prominently the second name after Hideki Kamiya and Bayonetta is already in the game, clearly it suggests that the game was on his mind around this time so...

Ico for fighter 8 (or 9 at the latest).

Sakurai will add Amiya just to find a way to shove Starset music into Smash. However, by the time Arknights was even released, FP2 was probably solidified by then, meaning Sakurai couldn't add her in. The solution? In about thirty years, Sakurai will board a time machine and go back in time to FP2's development cycle and convince his younger self to convince Hypergryph, Yostar, and Nintendo to sort out a deal in advance, so he can add an Arknights Challenger Pack and, by extension, Starset music.

Yeah, all that just for Starset.

Worth it.

I know nothing about Shadow of the Colossus.

You don't play as the colossi, you play as the kid who stabs them in the glowey bits until they die. He also has a horse that goes wherever you don't want to go because realism I guess.

EDIT: Stage could be really cool though. Although, I do have to wonder how Super Smash Bros. Ultimate would handle the game's fairly monochromatic artstyle.
