So we’ve established the LGBT+ people in Smash already, but what newcomers would add to that? Obviously Edelgard would be really nice but she’s so from such a controversial series we don’t really discuss it, right? But yeah, who else can we think of?

Frisk from Undertale is non-binary. They're not happening (thank you Sans mii), but they're a solid option.

Can't really think of anything else.

Another good reason for Elma. Admittedly, her true form is that of a quite literally white alien woman with blue crystal hair (which is probably the coolest things about her true form's design, if you ask me), but her mimeosome form is what pretty much everyone always primarily associates her with, so she'd definitely count.

Personally, I just assumed that Elma's human disguise was based off of multiple different humans, which is why she has traits from various different ethnic groups (Blue eyes, white hair, dark skin, etc) that make it hard to pin her down to a specific ethnicity.ISPOILER]

I think we could add Hero to the list of LGBT characters because with IX S the Marriage mechanic was expanded to include Erik and Sylvando and it isn't explicit like with Jade and Serena but you vow to be life partners and you live in the same house that only has one bed.


Tracer from Overwatch comes to mind and pretty much all Granblue Fantasy characters are Bi

I dunno if the Hero from DQ IX is one of Hero’s alts in Smash though. And yeah, Tracer is a big one.

Crash is on my most wanted list, so that's cool.

Pretty much neutral-to-positive on the rest. Counting Min Min, I'd rate my satisfaction around... dunno, 70 to 80%. Solid Fighters Pass all around.

It would kind of suck because Smash ultimate does tend to get pretty boring after the hype around the character wears off but at least I'd be able to play as Sgt. Cortez in Super Smash Bros Ultimate!

This would actually be a really nice pass! Don’t care for the usual suspects of speculation but Professor Layton would be incredibly hype to me personally, and Lara Croft would be a Cloud-like ”video-game-surpassing” choice

Honestly I would be pretty neutral

I love Crash Bandicoot, I'm a big fan of Rex, I like Layton but I prefer Phoenix, I have no Opinion on Hayabusa, and I would prefer other Square characters to Lara croft but she techincally counts as Eidos

Everyone seems to be missing the very obvious candidate, and from Nintendo themselves. Birdo, who very well may be the first canonically trans character in gaming. The intended portrayal may not have been very positive during her inception, but I think it's clear at this point that there's nothing hateful about her modern incarnation.

Frisk is ambiguous gender, not non-binary. Feel free to correct me if Toby said otherwise, but they're supposed to be a stand-in for the player, meaning they can be male, female, nb, or whatever, but they don't have a canonical gender which isn't the same as nb.

An interesting article for sure. I don't know if India will actually get a foothold in game development and start developing AAA games but the Prince of Persia remake is definitely a start. There is potential in the industry there but the question is if this potential can be realized.

I may have misspoken here, but it isn't because of some being uncomfortable, but that some people are being defensive and perhaps taking this way too seriously. The fact that we are already fighting, regardless of the reason, is not a good thing.

Plus, I was just giving a suggestion. What I thought should be done, not an order. I may be missing something on what I did, but what I did was taken way too literally than it should have.

Real talk though: I kinda like that Ratchet and Clank were brought up, despite the fact that a Sony rep is not likely at all. At least it shows that people would be somewhat open to the idea, even Smash pros, I guess.

That said, it doesn't stray too far from series that are getting new games in the near future. But it's kinda fun regardless.

Problem is a lot of potential LGBTQ+ characters are either side characters or more generic avatars.
Like Poison would be amazing but good luck getting in when loads of key characters like Chun-Li, Bison, Cammy and Guile aren't playable.

Birdo is weird. Each game seems to refer to her differently: Sometimes male, sometimes female, and sometimes female with a question mark. This is probably due to a mixture of LGBTQ+ stuff being a no no in certain areas (and even more in the past) and because Birdo's design is so female coded that people just assume she's a girl anyway and would never know that she's trans otherwise.
