Since we have no news on FP5 yet, here's a simple question for ya'll:

How many characters you wanted in Smash are currently in the Fighter Pass? Right now, I'm 0 - 4, which kills me inside that this Fighter Pass hasn't had anyone that I wanted to see.

Before the characters were announced I wanted joker and banjo, but honestly I like all 4

Honestly I'm tired of gimmicks. I just want another character without some special thing to them. I mean we already have

Can't we just get another Mario? Or a Falcon? Just somebody with no gauges or charge moves or attacks with increased power or a helper or a pocket or any-f**king-thing?

Wonderwing isn’t a gimmick, and neither is deep breathing or revenge those are just moves, also we only have gimmicks because they make the character feel more like they do in their home series, what’s so wrong with that?

Currently, 1 - 3.

: I knew about Persona before it got into Smash, but I've never gotten the chance to play any of the games. As a result, I don't really feel a connection to the character or anything from the series. Very happy for the fans, though.

: A real dream come true! All those months of stress really got to me after a while, but seeing the Hero's reveal trailer was one of the greatest moments of my life. Playing Hero was some of the most fun I've ever had playing Smash in a long time, and I consider him my second best character. I really couldn't be happier with Hero's inclusion!

: I had a 64 growing up, but I never got a chance to play Banjo-Kazooie (played DK 64, though). I never really had much of an opinion on Banjo making it in, but I'm very happy for all of their fans.

: I'm actually a fan of KoF, so I've known about SNK for quite some time (mostly thanks to my older brother). My personal choice for an SNK rep would have been Kyo Kusanagi, but I like Terry too. I'm happy he's here.


I don't have much hope that any other characters I want will make it (Hero might be it for me), but I'm mainly pulling for only two characters these days:

Adol Christin!

And/or

Arle Nadja!

I'm content with the roster after Hero, so getting either of these two would pretty much be overkill for me, lol.

I tend to prefer straightforward characters myself but I feel like Ultimate has done a good job having a mix of both gimmicky and straightforward fighters. Wonderwing isn't a gimmick, it's Banjo's best move, lol.

FP1~Joker: Jeanne [Bayonetta] and Knuckles [Sonic] - Both SEGA characters, and Bayonetta is also a gun-wielder like Joker. I don't know how to differentiate Jeanne from Bayonetta as I've never played their games, but I'd imagine Knuckles to be a slower but more powerful version of Sonic, more of a heavy-hitter rather than a hit-and-run character. I considered Shadow ofc, but since he's an Assist Trophy, it is obv not gonna happen.

I did it... it's finally done...

So back in February, I made a deal that if Terry (or Kyo) got into Smash that I'd write a 10 page history on the history of SNK.

2 months after Terry's reveal and a little over a week since his release... it is now complete.

With pictures, double-spacing, and a references page, it stands at 36 pages. I didn't think it'd be this long but I wanted to talk about all the important games and characters. I don't think I've ever written a paper this long.

There are a few things I probably could've covered (like Athena and a few other games) but overall I'm satisfied with how it turned out.

It's split up into sections so use the sidebar on the left to help navigate.

Please read it whenever you can because I don't think I'll ever top this in terms of effort.

I found a really interesting consistency after I looked into one really interesting YouTube comment. Basically, what it says that the fighters in the pass are fighters that never been tied directly to a smash game. This is proven by how all of the fighters so far have NEVER touched a smash game, from Joker’s series to Terry. A golden rule is that the fighter can’t be present in any smash game or it’ll not be in the pass. Why is Nintendo doing this? So they can market the people who AREN’T playing smash.

Here is a qoute from Reggie:

“The reason it was so important to showcase Joker was really to help the player understand that the net has been cast very wide for the different NEW fighters who will ENTER Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. From that perspective, it’s going to be very exciting. As it gets closer to the launch of the next fighter we’ll reveal that, so stay tuned for that.”

With this, we have confirmation that the pass will not make any previously represented characters into fighters. They are not new to Smash and already have entered it in some way, including past games. They may not be in ultimate, but if they are Lloyd or Heichi, they already have made their technical appearance in Smash.

That's an interesting thought. So many people are hyped for P5R. Everyone and their momma's playing XI. People are clamoring for a BK remake. And they just added a whole bag of steam to the hype train that is KoF XV.

Also 0/4 for me. I essentially stopped caring for third-parties after Bayonetta, so no one on the pass really does anything to me. BK and Terry are somewhat interesting, but nowhere near enough for me to actually get the DLC.

Also, I just did some quick counting.
So far, every Smash game has added more new characters than the previous entry.
64 added 12.
Melee added 14.
Brawl added 18.
Wii U / 3DS added 21.
So far, Ultimate has added 16.
Since we know we're getting at least one more character after Fighter 5, that adds up to at least 18. So does that mean we could see 5 more characters post-pass to reach 22 newcomers and keep the trend going?
If all 16 dummy slots get filled, that'd be 27 newcomers.
And my greedy ass still wants more. Lol. I have a ****ing list of 30 + 5 Echoes.

I would’ve thought they were safe, until I remembered that the pass had series that were completely new to smash. Namco could, you know, mess with us in a meta perspective. They probably wrapped up a dlc fighter way before this pass was announced. Just a year before, they trademark some Xenosaga content.

I'm at 0/4. Even if I liked seing Hero coming in, he wasn't one of my wanted. And I don't care about the other DLC we got.

I'll go even further. I'm at 0 characters I wanted in this whole version of Smash, despite having several strong possible newcomers, both first and third parties. Don't get me wrong, I like some of the newcomers we got, but they weren't what I was after. You'll easily be able to understand why I'm so irritated and desperate to see Isaac (my most wanted and objectively most deserving first party left) join the roster.

: Having played the Persona series which includes the fifth series. I initially thought that if there were to bring an Atlus rep, it would be Jack Frost. But after seeing Joker's reveal tease as the first challenger of the fighters pass, I'm not that surprised considering how well his game was recieved.
: Having played Dragon Quest VIII on the 3DS which is the only series I've played so far, I thought that Erdrick could be playable at first. But when they showed that it was the Luminary from XI, it made sense to why they went with him due to his latest series being a success. Other thant that still glad the hero from VIII made it in as one of the alts.
: Banjo-Kazooie was one of the games that I highly adored during the Nintendo 64 days, but overall very happy to see a classic finally getting the opportunity to be in Smash.
: I had a feeling that someone from SNK is bound to eventually gain representation in Smash which it fully deserved. Overall like Banjo, I'm happy that Terry got the spot.

I'm at 4/4 so far.

I too thought that Jack Frost would be our Atlus Rep.
But here's hoping for the future when we have a 300 character roster.

I'm at 0 characters as well, not just DLC but the whole roster, and that's why despite all I still haven't got the new Smash (despite I have a Switch now).
I'm waiting for someone I care about, but so far nothing has come.

The only characters that seem interesting to me so far are Inkling and Piranha Plant, but I'm not interested in them enough to justify getting the game yet.
Most of the characters I want are first party, so if only they added more first party into the mix, probably I would have been satisfied at this point.

-A Wario Ware character

-Vaati
-Tingle
-other more obscure Zelda characters like the Oracles or something
-any other Kirby character that's not a waddle dee with a bandanna (I dislike him), especially Dark Matter, Chef Kawasaki, Gooey, Taranza, Rick Kine and Coo, or Daroach.
-Krystal from Starfox
-Dixie Kong maybe
-Any other Sonic character, especially Knuckles, Amy (not a big fan of the character but she has some moveset potential) or Blaze.
-Some previous gen pokèmon, such as Meowth, Scizor or Scyther, Meloetta, and some others.
-Jill & Drill Dozer (forgotten assist trophy from Brawl that nobody seems to care about)
-Tempo from Harmo Knight
-More Megaman characters, or maybe Megaman.EXE
-Classic Final Fantasy characters such as Black/White Mage, Chocobo, etc.
probably some others.

and so far I got nothing from this list, aside of maybe inkling, a very low priority from the "other characters" section (Piranha Plant was an unexpected surprise).
The point is, 1 or 2 characters aren't enough for me, unless they are some characters I really want such as Adeleine or Karate Joe (which they aren't).

Never played Persona 5 so never heard of Joker before he was announced. Still indifferent toward Joker.

I enjoy Dragon Quest. I have DQ 4-9 on DS and 3DS. I have DQ 11 and Builders 1-2 on Switch. I wanted Erdrick or Eight (he’s from my favorite DQ) and I got both. Once I got to know Eleven after playing DQ 11, I am okay with him being the default Hero.

I played Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie on the N64. I wanted Banjo & Kazooie for a long time.

I have many Neo Geo game on my Wii Virtual Console. Most of them are SNK fighting games and I play them with my brother. That’s why I was hyped when Terry Bogard was announced.

Bonus - Piranha Plant. Never saw him coming. I was shocked and upset that this generic enemy got in Smash over Toad. I admit it is unique and fun but I still want Toad.

: Been interested in Persona (especially 5) for a while - I even have its SMS background as my own. So while I never saw i*gets slapped in the face* I was fully onboard. Was a bit caught off guard that Arsene is Joker's only Persona, but overall very happy.

: Actually didn't see this coming until the Brave datamine. Also thought it would be Erdrick, but was likewise caught off guard by Solo and Eight appearing alongside Erdrick (no, Sakurai, not calling him Arusu) and Luminary. Hero's gameplay won me over because of how nutty it is - while somehow not being broken. Which reminds me of Dota 2's gameplay design - think "Every character in the game is balanced like Hero", or as 3BitSaurus friends put it: "Everyone's broken, so no one is.".

: While my feelings towards them have cooled (time does that), they're still a character choice I fully supported. Even if I share some moveset complaints (for example, no Beak Drill, one of my personal favorites from Tooie) credit should still go to Sakurai and Sora Ltd for making them a cohesive character with some interesting quirks. Sutherland's voice acting might be reused, but it's reused because it's great (My favorite remains the KO sound, the "AAAAÍIIEEE!" I'm not above characters I adore recieving some slapstick).

: Didn't have much of a clue he existed until I happened upon Sari's work. But I've been vaguely familiar with SNK (primarily Iori's laugh, Geese's mannerisms and Mai) for a while. Terry didn't really figure in my predictions, but hoo boy he's fun. I just can't help but to talk in Texas drawl whenever he shows up, think Dragon Ball Z Abridged's Android 13. He's fun to play as and against, even though being defeated by Power Geyser or Buster Wolf is really annoying.

He also reminds me of US-1 (Or US-Ace as he's called nowadays) - Marvel's Trucker Superhero. Fully support Terry post release.

Overall 2 - 4 Pre release, 4 - 4 post.

Because I only care about Nintendo and follow Nintendo news. That and I spend most of my Internet time on Facebook where I follow current events.

This is the funny part to me. Its funny watching a large portion of the rather insolated smash fanbase have to speculate about other fanbases. Anytime someone argues chris as a RE rep over Leon or Jill they dont know the RE fanbase very well. Chris is much closer to a roy level character than a marth one. Even claire may be bigger than Chris. He exists but he's not the series Leon and Jill are marth they rep the franchise. They also happen to star in all the best games. RE2, Re4, Re3 even Leon RE6 campaign was much better than Chris.
Personally id rather have Ada Wong as the RE rep assuming we got one but thats not gonna happen.

This is the funny part to me. Its funny watching a large portion of the rather insolated smash fanbase have to speculate about other fanbases. Anytime someone argues chris as a RE rep over Leon or Jill they dont know the RE fanbase very well. Chris is much closer to a roy level character than a marth one. Even claire may be bigger than Chris. He exists but he's not the series Leon and Jill are marth they rep the franchise. They also happen to star in all the best games. RE2, Re4, Re3 even Leon RE6 campaign was much better than Chris.
Personally id rather have Ada Wong as the RE rep assuming we got one but thats not gonna happen.

Yeah, true. I don't remember a single occasion outside of MvCI where Chris was the one chosen protagonist for RE. Meanwhile, Jill and Leon have done so on quite a few occasions - the former is seen as the face of the franchise in the 90s and the latter is very popular and, as far as Smash is concerned, has closer ties to Nintendo.

Heck, look at Teppen and MH World - Jill is so far the only RE protagonist to join the former - and I suspect Wesker only got in before her because they needed another "villain or enemy" character. As for MH, we got Leon and Claire.

Leon has yet to appear in a fighting game along with being a popular character from his own series. That's one of the biggest reasons he's requested, because he hasn't been done before.
