Story time, story time! Do tell!
when I first played it on a rom it instantly became my fav game, and of course i had to tell all my internet friends

I was looking for a cart but didnt tell anyone

so one day when i was on gaia (went there for 7 yrs shut up) i was talking about the game in my guild AGAIN and a guy i know in illinois was just like "I think i have 3 copies of that game lying around, not sure why but my friends kept getting me the same game" (hes like 30)

so i was all DUDE WILL YOU SELL ME ONE?

and he honestly didnt expect me to ask that and said uhhh maybe if i can find one of them...

so sure enough a while later he says he found a cart and i asked him how much, and he ****ing says he'll send it for free

but i feel bad, saying dude you do know how rare this is?

he totally does, but doesn't care, sure enough i get it in the mail works perfectly and is in pristine condition

ppl were like "oh he was just creepin" but hes generous to everyone

Speaking of repping Ness, I am finally beginning to convince people that Ness is not free. The guy who holds 10th on our PR told me Ness was free at a tourney in October. I then proceeded to knock him out of losers brackets 2-0 in our set :awesome:
My Pokémon Trainer WILL make you cry if we ever play in bracket. Or I'll just go Dedede.

Also poke plays almost entirely based on WiFi MU experience. You play your Ness rather differently. So it'll **** him up. That's how I beat his Marth with my Zelda, by playing off key, so to speak.

Lol I like facing PKTs, friendlies next time we meet? And grawr@ Dedede.

Don't know if my Ness is really that unusual, seems to be pretty consistant with how alot of Ness mains play with some minor variences of course. And it's not just Poke not knowing the MU, when I play Meek (#3 on the PR right now) our sets are always fairly even (4 sets in a row have went to game 3) and apparently he plays FOW pretty frequently (or so I've heard) so he defs knows the MU.

And I've heard your Zelda is pretty good. Gotta play that sometime too.

Yeah... Also I've been dusting off my (pretty) rusty Ness, we should get in some Ness dittos too.

I want videos of this game breaking team.

Congrats on first though, I really haven't heard of Ness/Yoshi being used much but it must be pretty good. Were there any really notable teams/players you guys had to play?

OH MY GOD, ROCKMIX IS FREAKING AMAZING!!

Like literally, yesterday he was just a local player, slightly above average, and now he's like, stupidly good. Im calling it that he's gonna be the next up and coming Ness player. He's getting so good just all of a sudden out of nowhere, and is doing so freaking fast. He's beastly.

He took 3rd in singles, being the highest placing player to not use MK, and went 100% Ness, even upsetting our #1 in state 2-1 and sending him to loser's bracket (however they did rematch in loser's finals and he lost 3-1).

Rockmix too good, top 5 Ness right here.

ALSO, there werent any vids from this tournament, BUT, we have 2 more coming up soon, and I know for sure he'll be to AT LEAST 1 of them, so Ill try and get some of his new stuff recorded for you guys.

I love sponges, those that soak up information and use it, I'm a little like that (well, i hope so anyway XD ), but definitely not in a day, so that's an impressive feat. :D

RIPPLE!!! POST HERE MORE OFTEN!!! <3 RIPPLE!

I guess I can see how Ness + Yoshi is amazing. There're so many opportunities where one's grabs can lead to another's kill opportunity. Yoshi GR > Ness BAir. Ness UThrow > Yoshi UAir. Ness DThrow > Yoshi's NeutralB > Whatev. Both characters have stage pressure abilities and can camp together with relative ease.

All I have to say to ripple right now is that his avi is making me unfairly nostalgic. Like comon, Skies of Arcadia has one of the best RPG storyline/world/atmosphere ever. However it is not worth going back and playing because you run into random battles every 5 steps :(. It's a game I want to explore and jump back into the story again but the thought of enduring a million unavoidable battles makes me cringe. If only I could turn them off somehow...

anyway. Tangent completed. Vyse fo life. not gay.

Okay, random. I'm feeling DashAttack has some crazy stuff to it and need frame-data.

Frame Data

Dash attack

Start up: 6
Hits: 7, 23, 38
Hit lag: 8-16, 24-31, 39-46
ENDS: 63

-------------------------------
Jump: 5 frames until leaving the ground
-------------------------------
U air

Start up:7
Hits: 8
Hitlag: 9-17
Ends: 51
Landing lag: 12
Shield Lag: 10
Shield stun: 4

OR

B air sweet spot

Start up: 9
Hits: 10
Hitlag: 11-25
Ends: 49
Landing lag: 12
Shield Lag: 10
Shield stun: 5

OR

N air Sweet spot

Start up: 4 frames
Hits: 5
Hitlag: 6-13
ENDs: 39
Landing lag: 19
Shield Lag: 9
Shield stun: 3
I got this, so we get like 17 frames until the end, then essentially 13 frames afterward to get in the UAir (I'm trying to also factor in the fact that you need to cover that distance, but for now I'm assuming that it takes 8 frames to cover that distance, AKA the exact number of frames it takes for UAir to come out)

30 frames to get in the UAir followup after hitting with the DashAttack 3rd hit, at early percents. Maybe a little later at some higher percents, but you catch my drift.

At what frame can one input airdodge or an attack after getting out of hitlag? Once I have that info, I can get to proven combos or traps based on that frame data. (am I thinking of the way that the frame data works wrong? I don't know entirely... I've only just now looked at the cold-hard frame data b/c I land DashAttack > UAir way too consistently and I want to know if it's my opponent's failure or that it actually works against their character 100% of the time)

EDIT:

Any attack that has enough knockback to send into tumble will allow you to air-dodge on frame 13 and perform an aerial attack (not special) on frame 25.

The other stuff is more specialized and somewhat difficult to get a set formula for since it's actually unique for several attacks.

So Ness beats out anyone who doesn't have at least a frame-6 attack. AWESOME! *starts rockin'* The best part is that frame-6 attack must also hit below the character with some significant area in order to beat Ness' giant head. In the case that the opponent air-dodges, you have a minimal time to see whether or not they airdodge early enough and react to it properly (in terms of average human reaction time, you're not gonna be able to react properly each time until around 15 frames pass by... so either you input your UAir or and miss or you go with another aerial). It comes out before Ness' UAir can hit and also ends before Ness' UAir ends.... in that time, you can move away enough to not get destroyed, so not worrying about getting hit. But we want combos. CONSISTENT combos.

So look back @NAir's frame data: ends 39. That's awesome. AD for most characters ends COMPLETELY around 50, but might have a varying invincibility ending time. Ness' AD invincibility ends at 30, so we'll take that or anything later as a reference.

so looking at the frame data once again, we'll take "0" to be the point after hitlag ends with Ness' 3rd-hit DashAttack.

At 13, The opponent AD's.
At 17, Our lag-time ends and their AD is active.
At 22, we're off the ground.
--If we decide to use NAir immediately upon leaving the ground, we end our NAir at 61 and they end their AD at 63. We win with another NAir and sometimes with UAir.

You can mix up following a 3rd-hit DashAttack with UAir and NAir to maximize how often you combo into another move, b/c UAir is pro enough to hit people from below and in proper time while NAir is quick enough to cover a perfectly-timed AD.

Now looking at the sour-spot frame data with respect to when the opponent's AD ends:

At 47-??, the opponent's AD will have ended invincibility. At around 37-42, if you time NAir to be executed immediately from off the ground, the NAir sourspot starts. I don't know how long it lasts. It lasts a bit, but I don't know exactly. If you delay NAir just a bit, the ending of NAir's sourspot will almost certainly hit the opponent out of their non-invincible AD frames.

So yeah, USE DASH-ATTACK, 3rd HIT ONLY!

EDIT2: NAir wins timing-wise every time. The problem with NAir is that you can't always get the spacing properly. (It might actually lose against MK's NAir or DAir... I've gotta see if I'm getting the frame-data interpretation wrong)

EDIT3:

I'm gonna try and do frame-data interpretations the rest of this week after my exams. I just needed to get this one finished because it's been nagging at me forever.

Next up: UAir and it's potential string opportunities.

Oh yeah, I've been testing it out, and I'm pretty sure Ness' head size (while doing his U-air) DOES change, nowhere near as much as it did in, say, 64, but it does change a fraction. As it starts up and at the beginning of the sweet spot, his head becomes fractionally bigger, and as it cools down, just before the end of the move his head becomes a fraction smaller than usual.

Noticed it when i had to pause in the middle of the move one time, but since I've only done it a few times, it might be a trick of the light or I might have mis-seen. But I'm pretty sure that's what happens.
