Trust me, the time b/w hitting with the PK Fire bolt as you PK Jump with Ness and the time the UAir comes out is so small that it will either hit the Yoshi or leave you in a position to get hit with a rising UAir or DashGrab if you break out. Ness' UAir trades with Yoshi's DAir or BAir, so Ness gets like 3% tops and Yoshi gets 11% minimum from that. If you NAir and the Ness spaces the UAir properly, your NAir won't hit Ness.

Ness' options on hit with PK Jump are insane. You can't punish him unless you have massive breaking-out skills and can manage to reflect the PK Fire Pillar. On shield hit, the PK Jump is SLIGHTLY punishable, but you have to read properly. Either NAir, UAir, AD, or FAir are options directly after PK Jump (BAir being a potential option, but only if perfectly timed), but the AD can be led to a bunch of other things, my favorite being grab, b/c people expect an attack when I land a lot.

Marth is much better when trapped in the pillar than Yoshi. He has upB, FAir, DancingBlade, and Counter. I think he also has first-hit NAir, but I'm not sure. Ness can't punish when Marth is trapped in the pillar whatsoever. With Yoshi, there are options if they do break out, but against Marth it's like "ehhh... I'd rather wait back and use some more PK Fires or just PKT or try to poke in with DashAttack"

Yoshi doesnt need to go in the air when he gets out due to DJC, and he can get out as early as the Yoshi's reaction time allows. Literally, as soon as he takes the initial hit, we can DJ out of it, then do a reverse egg lay or something to basically slide across the ground out of it.

If Lucas gets out of Ness' PK fire, he can use PSI magnet. However, i believe it is unsafe to do so because Lucas cannot get out of PSI magnet for a bit after absorbing something and especially as Ness' PK fire is multiple hits. Therefore while he absorbs ness comes up and grabs him.

Uhh.... Otherwise i'd say Lucas had a nice way to counter it... I wonder...

@Excel, xD Those UAirs don't let Luigi touch Ness EVER. xD and if he does *hit trades* So much BS from Ness' side. xD xD xD It's like this:

"Okay, Ness, I'm gonna do some random move-strings on you and you're going to take damage"
*Ness uses Nair in minimal gap between moves*
"Well frick, that ruined everything. I guess I can wait around on the ground for something to happen..."
*Ness uses BAir on shield; the shield pushback makes it almost impossible for Luigi to counter anything*
"Okay, what the hell? I can't really try an aerial approach, so I'll just perfect-shield that BAir"
*Ness switches it up with AC'd DAirs (at a distance mostly) and dashAttacks and dashGrabs. One of those pops luigi up into the air (DThrow with Ness)*
"Okay, I'm above him. If he tries to come at me with an aerial, I'll just get a NAir or DAir or maybe even a BAir"
*NESS USES UAIR!*

did pretty good except they had ****ty rules like stage select on forced random, and some crappy stages like yoshis island from melee

random took me to lylat cruise at one point and it screwed up my recovery

it was fun to finally get to play the game again after so long though

Anyways, I've got a vid up showing some of Ness' DashAttack spacing. Getting the second hit, it's still possible to get shield-grabbed. Third hit only, it's pretty difficult for the person to shieldgrab you unless they have a tether grab.

lol you'd be assuming correctly, having a real-life example of ness not sucking is part of what keeps me going. Not that I was planning on dropping ness but I've learned to be less scared of non-marth matchups

Anyways, next time I get to a Wii (in like a week and a half from now after all my tests are through), I'll put together a couple vids describing some awesome trap-like situation(s) and some unique ways that Ness can implement some of his moves that completely alter the momentum and flow of a match.

Ness' UAir is so broken.... xD it trades or out-spaces/speeds almost every aerial.

And the other Mother games never were officially released in English so if you have any interest in playing them I have translated virtual copies (disclaimer i also own the japanese cartridges )
